How thin is too thin?

I had my locs crocheted in about 7 months ago
And am trying to go freeform from now. However, as a wavey haired person, I wonder if my super thin locks will be able to do it themselves? Some of them are pencil thin. Is there enough hair there to let them sort it out alone or do we need to merge the little ones?

I have some really thin ones in my set and it's true that they're taking forever to mature and form compared to thicker ones, but they look perfectly fine and I'm letting them free form now instead of crochetting, so it's definitely possible. Dm me if you want and I will shoy you some pics☺️
