Vent Club Pilates Rant

So at our Club Pilates AC has been out which has now lasted for 10 days. While I appreciate that fans and water have been provided, the hot and humid conditions make it impossible for me to work out comfortably. As a loyal member for over 5 years, I pay a significant amount for these facilities, yet I have only been able to attend once since the AC broke.

I understand that the existing system cannot be fixed and a new HVAC system is required. However, following the recent acquisition of the studio, this situation raises concerns about how the club will be managed moving forward.

Given that I am unable to use the facilities I am paying for, is it unreasonable for me to request either a penalty-free cancellation of my contract or a prorated refund for the current month.

Am the one that is being unreasonable?

Vent When the dust settles… is it a money grab?

We all sign up when the endorphins are high from the trial run,but once life starts lifting, and you can’t cancel the day before (e.g you wake up sick, or there’s a disruption with your transportation) this is a clear money grab. The reason being, you’re charging me rather or not I come, and then I’m being penalized even when I accept the dreadful fate of an unused credit despite an emergency.

Life is full of what ifs and the level of inflexibility is repulsive. The fact that I am being charged for not being able to come and then you want me to pay to come another day? No thank you…

Then, I noticed that my level is ONLY available on the ONE DAY I couldn’t make it… it’s infuriating!

I almost want to cancel and just go back to classes at LA Fitness because the accountability is exaggerated here lol…

Instructors instructors: what takes you longer to prep, the playlist or the class itself?

been collecting data on how instructors prep and the playlist ends up eating more time than planning the class itself for a lot of people. one reformer teacher said 8 hrs a week. curious how it breaks down for the teachers here, whats the bigger time sink for you?

Advice/Questions Is footwork on the chair an option during pregnancy

I’m starting to get uncomfortable laying down for so long during footwork. Wondering if it’s a good modification to do footwork on the chair or if they would even allow that in level 1. Im 33 weeks and I really don’t want to just quit but my belly is heavy and I’m having trouble breathing well when laying down even with the wedge. I was thinking about it because in my level 2 class before pregnancy we’d do footwork on the chair.

Memberships/Policies Difficulty canceling membership

Wondering if anyone has ever had the same problem as me…

I am billed the 29th of every month. I notified them yesterday morning 8/28 that I will be canceling my membership.

They replied today 8/29 and said I will still be billed on 9/29 and have access to the club until 10/27.

I am so confused because the math isn’t mathing to me. I counted and I gave them 32 days notice.

I questioned them and told them that I technically have 32 days notice and they said nope that I’m still going to be billed 9/29.

Am I missing something? Am I wrong? I am genuinely so confused so if anyone could clarify or has dealt with this please lmk!!

Advice/Questions Pregnant & not enjoying Pilates

Has anyone lost the joy in Pilates once pregnant? Does anyone have any tips or tricks to help me adapt?

I used to look forward to my classes but once I told them I was pregnant & had to start using the wedge, I stopped enjoying it. I understand it’s for the safety of my unborn child but the angle bothers my hips & has changed the experience of the exercise (like bridging is an awkward angle for my upper back/neck). I don’t want to end my membership because I want to stay active but I also don’t want to pay for something that I don’t enjoy doing.

Advice/Questions Fit ball flows

Hi everyone, I’m new to Pilates and I see a CP reformer flow 1 class but in the subtitle it says “fit ball flows!”, does anyone know what this means? I have fibromyalgia so I want to make sure it won’t be high impact :) there’s nothing in the description about it. Thank you!

Advice/Questions Should I be struggling this much?

Hi! I’ve been taking level 1 club Pilates classes for 8 months (8-class membership), and my last 5 months were with the two instructors I felt the most challenged by and I really enjoyed it. I recently noticed that I started to feel like I could do more, so I began taking level 1.5 classes with the same instructors.
I’ve only been to about 5 or 6 classes so far. I can do bridges fine and even though they feel very challenging on the last reps, I can usually finish without having to rest. However I have been really struggling with finishing sets that have a lot of core work without taking breaks. Like I will have to stop, take a breather, and then I can keep going. Also I am still not able to do a teaser with both feet over the foot bar when we change springs, but I can do it when I have one leg over and one leg under.

Do you think this means I should go back to level 1? Did this happen to any of you?
I appreciate any advice and I’m sorry about my English, it’s not my first language!

Advice/Questions Knees and ankles always aching

Hi! Started Club Pilates March of ‘25, have done about 80 classes. Between classes, my knees and ankles just ache (sometimes quad muscles get in on the action). I never experience pain during class, this is in between classes. Things I’ve tried:

-Adding more rest days between classes
-Increasing protein
-Magnesium glycinate supplements
-Creatine
-Bloodtests (D, B12, etc. all normal. I do have hypothyroidism but it’s normal with meds)
-PT eval of positioning during things like squats

The only time I haven’t had this ache is when I was traveling for two weeks and couldn’t do Pilates 🤦‍♀️ But I love how it feels during class! I’m 40 and I feel like I should be able to go more often and not experience these aches! Any other ideas?

Advice/Questions Summer Overhaul Typical?

I started in March and unfortunately in May found out I had melanoma on my head. I had to pause my membership from mid-June to mid-August while I had surgeries and recovery.

I've been back about 3 weeks now and not only did most of the schedule change, 1/3 of the normal evening instructors aren't on the schedule, and I recognize 2 people in class from before.

I don't know if it's summer and the schedule usually switches up like this, but it was a little disconcerting thinking "oh I'll see so and so Wed at 7" and well, everyone in the class is different.

I also miss my favorite instructor. I'm really not a fan of the manager as a manager (billing issues repeatedly) and her teaching style. Her voice is basically like constant yelling.

I received a promo email today (not sure if all studios are doing this or just unique to mine) offering 8 pack members the chance to upgrade for 20% off lifetime. What does this mean exactly?

Vent Trigger ball

Does anyone think it is normal in a one point5 center and balance class to spend 20 minutes rolling the trigger ball under our feet? I understand that some people have feet issues and this might feel good. I do not and I find it boring. I do not see the reason to spend 20 minutes on anyone exercise I feel like it is a time filler for the instructor.

Advice/Questions Not flexible

My legs have never been flexible. I have never been able to touch my toes. Due to this, I am limited on some of the movements. For example when we do downward facing dog, I am unable to do that with my feet flat on the mat. Most recently we were doing a move where we lay on our side with the top foot on the foot bar. The way it was supposed to be done is with the foot flat on the bar, but because I'm not flexible I had to do it on my toes. I know a lot of you will say I'll become flexible over time and you're right but it will never be to the point where I can touch my toes. Believe me I've tried. I used to to yoga.

My question is, what do I do about this? Instructors have gotten upset with me because I am not doing what they have instructed the class to do. Do I tell the instructor about this?

Discussion had an interesting class today!

had a class today that was not bad but just not the norm that i’ve taken at my studio. i just wanted to see if this is normal for other studios or teachers! we did not get off of the reformer until the very end of class, we kept the ball the entire time we were on the reformer (between ankles, between thighs, holding up with hands, on lower back, etc.), and we did not end with feet in straps. we still did feet in straps towards the end but we did feet in straps and then ended with a mermaid stretch / push downs on the chair. we also did 2 reds for feet in straps and we typically do one red one blue. it wasn’t a bad workout, just different but still don’t know how i really feel lol. is this the norm for anyone else?

Instructors Teacher Training - Struggling to get Assistant Teaching Hours

I’m really struggling to reach the required 34 hours of assistant teaching needed to complete my teacher training hours and test out. I work full-time and have been out of town a lot this summer and will continue to be till October. I’m worried I’m running out of time (started my in-studio days last October) and won’t complete the program. It’s such a huge investment of time and money just to not get certified! Can anyone offer advice on how to wrap up these hours? For context, I have 16/34 AT hours complete, and all my other hours (Observation, Practice Teaching, Self Practice) done. Literally 482/500 hours done and I’m just really struggling with those last 18 😭

Advice/Questions Pilates with no calorie deficit?

I'm very new to Pilates. I was put on a medication that causes increased appetite. I find it almost impossible to stop eating. I was wondering what kind of results I would get if I ate a calorie surplus with tons of protein. What would my body look like? Would I look like a weightlifter or not see any results at all?

Advice/Questions Does your studio pay for social media content?

If you (an instructor) make reels/content for the studio, or a collab post between your personal and the studio's, do they pay and how much?

The content/reels being just individual of you as an instructor (not of the clients) filmed before class or after class. Eg. going through a flow, or tips etc

Memberships/Policies Name in App

Hello! I just realized that there are two dollar signs ($$) behind my name in the app. This seems new. I used to have a star next to my name (which Google tells me means I’m approved for 2/2.5). What does the $$ mean? Thanks!

Victory! Excited for 1.5

I just wanted a place to write this. After 3 months, and a lot of hard work, I've moved up to level 1.5. I had to do assessments by card. It has been a struggle for me, and I'm really proud of myself.

Advice/Questions What moves are considered "beginner"?

I'm shopping around for beginner pilates classes in my city and so far I've only found classes that felt very far from beginner. Are there certain moves that are considered beginner that CP focuses on in level 1 classes?

Advice/Questions Club Pilates for beginners?

Hi all!

Can I walk in Club Pilates embarrassingly out of shape or is that not advised lol

31 y/o female here. Never been athletic, went to the gym regularly in my early 20s, now my exercise is walking my dogs. I’m wanting to get into something that builds strength and I enjoy and thought of trying out Pilates.
