I recently built a small colouring app called Pocket Crayons, mostly because I wanted something simple that I could hand to my 4-year-old when she wanted to draw on my phone.

The idea was to make it feel a bit more like giving a child a box of crayons than giving them another mobile game, so I created the app with no ads, no accounts, no subscriptions, and nothing constantly trying to get their attention. Just colouring and drawing.

One of the things I particularly wanted was to make it easy for parents to keep their child inside the app, so it includes a child lock that makes accidentally leaving the drawing screen harder, and you can use Guided access so they cannot access other apps on your phone (there are some instructions in the grown-ups area).

I’ve just released the first version on iPhone/iPad and I’d genuinely love some feedback from people who enjoy colouring, especially anyone with young kids.

I’m still figuring out what to add next, so I’d also love to hear what you’d want from something like this: more colouring pages, different drawing tools, etc. 😊
