Hey everyone!
I’m the creator/writer of an original action/fantasy manga called Blank Line, and I’m currently looking for a story/developmental editor to work with me on the series.
This is paid work.
I already have a storyboard artist and final manga artist. I handle the writing, characters, dialogue, worldbuilding, lore, power system, and overall creative direction.
What I’m looking for now is another creative brain who can work with me on the story itself before it goes into storyboarding.
What I need from an editor
I’m not looking for someone to rewrite the story for me or take over the creative direction.
I want someone who will challenge my work and be honest with me.
If something doesn’t make sense, tell me.
If the pacing is dragging or moving too quickly, tell me.
If a character decision feels forced or inconsistent, question it.
If I contradict something established earlier in the story, catch it.
If a rule within the power system creates a plot hole or raises a question I haven’t considered, bring it up.
If a reveal needs more setup, an emotional moment could hit harder, dialogue feels unnatural, or there’s an opportunity for stronger foreshadowing or payoff, I want to hear it.
Proofreading and dialogue cleanup are helpful, but story development and critique are the main things I need.
This is intended to be collaborative
I’m not looking for a one-time transaction where I send someone a chapter, receive an editorial report, and never speak to them again.
I want to actually talk through the story with my editor, discuss problems, bounce ideas back and forth, and work together on finding solutions while I remain the writer and creative director.
Blank Line is intended to be a long-running series, so I’m hoping to find someone who can gradually become familiar with its characters, world, lore, power system, factions, mysteries, and long-term story.
Eventually, I want my editor to know the series well enough to catch something like:
“You established this rule three chapters ago. What you’re doing here contradicts it.”
That kind of continuity is extremely important to me.
What I’m looking for
• Strong understanding of storytelling and story structure
• Familiarity with manga/anime storytelling
• Ideally familiar with battle shonen/action manga and long-form serialized stories
• Strong instincts for pacing and character development
• Comfortable working with extensive worldbuilding and a structured power system
• Able to track lore and continuity
• Understands setup, payoff and foreshadowing
• Comfortable questioning/challenging the creator when something isn’t working
• Interested in discussing problems and possible solutions collaboratively
• Reliable communication
• Potentially interested in working with the series long-term
Professional manga-industry experience is not required.
I’m completely open to indie editors, writers, manga creators, webcomic creators, or other storytellers who have the right skills and genuinely understand the medium.
What matters most to me is whether you understand storytelling, can give strong critical feedback, and whether our creative approaches work well together.
