Kodi UI looks weird when playing HDR and Do I (Ugoo AM6B) LGTV, not OLED

Post image
3 Upvotes

I hope this isn't a silly question but every time I try to play remuxes that are HDR or Dovi, everything looks off and Kodi's UI looks so washed out. Is that normal or is it not switching into the correct mode properly. This happens on either HDR or Dovi. Does anyone know a fix? I think my tv is an LG Nanocell which I've heard isn't the best? But I'm just looking to solve it until I get an OLED TV soon.

p3i T4c - Black Bars on 16:9 Made For TV Content, Exaggerated Black Bars on Widescreen Movies?

I'm sure it's not my imagination but I've been noticing a lot more pesky black bars since upgrading to p3i, on material that I would normally expect to completely fill the screen, as well as very large black bars on sources that would naturally have them.

My set up:

AM6B+ running p3i T4c

LG B7 OLED set to "just scan" AR setting

JBL Bar 300 mk2 passing video signal to TV

All files stored locally via USB, playback via Kodi and from good sources - no streaming/addons

In the shots I posted we can see the 4k DV output of "House Of The Dragon" with one inch black bars above and below. Plus the 4k movie "Normal" with a good two inches of BB above, and a great whacking nearly 3 inches of good old BB below, which seems excessive.

This is pretty typical but not universal. Occasionally content will play full screen, for example 1080p WW2 With Tom Hanks, which you would expect, as not a movie, although most 1080p is also still BB whether a movie or made for TV.

I've been troubleshooting with AI most of the day and have tried everything. From changing the TV's aspect ratio to changing every player and output setting suggested. Nothing has worked.

Minimise black bars or "stretch" options just look weird and also the stretch option takes some of the Kodi start menu off the screen.

I should also mention it makes no difference whether the video is being passed through the soundbar or the player is connected directly to the TV.

If anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful. At the end of the day it's livable with I suppose, but not doing my OCD one bit of good!

Raised Black Floor on DV-to-HDR10 Conversion (QD-OLED) - Settings Not Resolving It (using SamuriHL release )

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some technical help regarding a persistent VS10 engine behavior on CoreELEC when converting Dolby Vision to HDR10.

My Hardware Chain:

  • Player: Ugoos AM9 Pro running the latest CE builds with CPM's VSVDB injection.
  • Display: Samsung S95D QD-OLED (No Dolby Vision support, 10-bit panel, ~1600 nits peak, pure 0 nit blacks).

The Problem (Floating Blacks on Logos/Black Frames): Since my TV lacks Dolby Vision support, I rely on the VS10 engine to convert DV Remuxes into dynamic HDR10. However, during pure black screens or studio logos (e.g., Paramount stars on a black background), the black floor is slightly raised. The QD-OLED pixels do not turn completely off, creating a grey haze instead of absolute 0 nit black.

The Parameters I Have Applied: I have gone through the Expert CoreELEC settings and applied the following configuration based on the VS10 kernel documentation, but it has not resolved the problem:

  • DV VS10 for DV video: HDR10 (All other SDR/HDR10 VS10 toggles are Off)
  • Append CMv4.0 metadata: Smart (I have also tested "Always" and "CMv2.9 without L2 trims")
  • CMv4.0 smart bypass threshold (%): 20
  • Display peak luminance (nits): 1600
  • VS10 target minimum luminance (reference black): 0 (I also tried changing this to 1 to force 0.0001 nit and bypass the 0.005 nit Dolby default, but the blacks are still raised)
  • Force peak onto display (VSVDB): Checked
  • Colour space (VSVDB): Display (keep advertised)
  • Level 5 active area (letterbox): Source
  • Disable noise reduction: Checked

The Outcome: Despite trying all of these parameters, the black frames and logos still refuse to hit 0 nits. The OLED pixels remain slightly powered on.

My Question: why is the DV-to-HDR10 conversion still outputting a raised black floor on black frames/logos despite these strict parameters? Is there a specific VSVDB setting, EDID workaround, or kernel tweak I am missing to ensure absolute zero blacks when tone-mapping DV to HDR10 on a Samsung display?

Popping sound

There's a loud popping sound that occurs when closing some videos. I did a search and found others with similar issues but no solutions. Someone suggested it might be related to the OSD sounds which i turned off but that didn't help.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Running Ugoos AM6B+, p3i T4, PM4K. Sony TV.

Thank you

Hello I’m new here. I just installed avdvplus 9 on mine fire tv cube 2. My tv is LG c4 which supports Dolby vision. The problem is when I play dv7 video is it plays as vs10 sdr. I tried to switch it to DV original from OSD but it looked to VS10 SDR. How can I make it play proper Dolby vision?

AM6B+ and LG G4: Playing GTA6 Extended look trailer(14.1GB) laggy and out of sync

So this should be a perfect use case for my setup.

Corelec, pannel t3i build t4c.

Best media player, one of the best OLED TV's on the market.

So the video is mp4 container, and recorded on 30fps.

https://www.rockstargames.com/VI/media/videos

Can anyone test if there is something on the file preventing flawless playback.

The video gets jerky and sound gets out of sync.

Screen Crops differently between 4k and 1080p videos. AM6b+

Just recently got my Ugoo Am6b+ and have installed Coreelec. Just doing some finalising to my settings and was testing video and notice that the UI and videos are oddly cropped. I adjust it on one resolution and it messes it with another. Does anyone know how I can fix it completely? Thank you for any help.

Downgrade firmware for E78Q Pro?

I want to downgrade the software as someone has said this will fix the permanent motion smoothing which I cant get rid of on my TV. Turned off any AI or motion smoothing settings and it's still there.

Does anyone have the downgrade firmware file? I tried the official site as well but it says my serial number is incorrect 🙄

EXPERIMENTAL] CoreELEC 22 · samurihl DV build

This is an unofficial, experimental CoreELEC 22 build. It is NOT an official
CoreELEC release and it is NOT a supported CE22 port. I am not a CoreELEC 22
port maintainer, and I will not be providing support, bug fixes, updates, or
ongoing maintenance for this build.

The only purpose of this build is to give Amlogic AM9 Pro-class users a more
complete Dolby Vision experience than stock CoreELEC 22, by carrying a set of
custom Kodi features I built for my own device. https://github.com/SamuriHL/CoreELEC/releases/tag/v22.0-samurihl-20260828133811

Display Led DV with p3i T4c on AM6b+ and LG G6

Hello,

I got my AM6b+ today and installed p3i T4c. Now I am fighting with it giving me the "Display Led" DV option. I have been talking about this with the AI for 2+ hours, but it's proven pretty pointless.

For these tests the AM6b+ is connected directly to the LG G6 (normally it would go through an Integra DRX 8.4 AV receiver, but I attached the AM6b+ directly to this HMDI cable for these tests instead of the AVR).

HDMI Deep Color is set to 4k on the LG G6 (checked about 100 times by now).

dmesg | grep -i dovi gives this:

[ 0.849311@5]- g12 dovi disable in uboot
[ 4.965194@3]- dovi: disagrees about version of symbol module_layout
[ 4.965203@3]- dovi: module license 'AML' taints kernel.
[ 4.968357@1]- dovi: disagrees about version of symbol register_dv_functions

The AI tells me that either this is the issue and in the next prompt that this is fine.

Also it keeps telling me stuff about in p3i not having the "Display Led" Option will still give Display Led if some other options are set.
But given that I see other recent posts here with screenshots from p3i explicitly showing a "Display Let" option I don't believe that.

These are the options I have for DV Type:

DV as VS10 only
Player Led (DV as DV-LL 422 12 Bit)
Player Led (DV as HDR10 444 12 Bit)
Player Led (DV as HDR10 422 12 Bit)

The dovi.ko file I have in there is 1292544 bytes long, has this MD5 9ede022d37a28a41d799cdac674d8a63 and is from here: https://discourse.coreelec.org/t/ce-ng-dolby-vision-fel-for-dv-licensed-socs-s905x2-s922x-z-s905x4/50953
This is the dovi.ko file the AI has sent me to in circles again and again (and other dovi.ko files that definitely wouldn't work and were only around 400k large and apparently for a newer coreelec release than p3i uses - at least that is what the AI told me after the attempts with these failed with tons of errors).

Sooooooo, what to believe and what to do?

Is the AI right and is there really no "Display Led" Option and it somehow will work display led anyway?

Or is the dovi.ko the wrong one after all?

Or is the issue somewhere else, maybe in front of this PC?

I would appreciate any non AI input to this, thank you!

Ugoos Am9pro

Ok I recently moved and purchased a new tv and surround sounds setup.

I have previously been using a firestick with Stremio.

I have recently purchased a Ugoos am9 pro which is being delivered today.

My original plan was to just use Stremio, but am looking into Corelec/Kodi.

I would solely be streaming movies from sources

Does anyone have any experience, are there any setup guides? I might have bit off more than i can chew.

I read something about purchasing a SSD thumb drive, a micro sd card….

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Suspicious of Avdvplus Builds

Is anyone else here suspicious of the security of installing the avdvplus builds? Having no proper git history and public source code which is intentionally not up to date or incomplete makes it extremely difficult for the community to audit the security of the software. We are meant to just blindly trust and install the image.

There have been sophisticated attacks on open source projects, and it wouldn’t be completely uncharacteristic for malware/spyware to be silently added on top of lots of genuinely useful features and development.

I am not saying that is necessarily the case but transparency in the open source community builds trust.

hidden nugget in T4c

  • DV profile and HDR10+ reach the library (vlix): video info now records and shows the real Dolby Vision profile ("7.6 FEL", "8.1", …) and HDR10+ presence.

This means that T4c now processes the DV profile at library scan time. It adds two new fields to your Kodi database:

  • strDvProfile: the Dolby Vision profile with its base layer compatibility id, and the enhancement layer where there is one - "5.0", "7.6 FEL", "7.6 MEL", "7.6 EL", "8.1" (HDR10 base), "8.2" (SDR base), "8.4" (HLG base)
  • strHdrTypeAlt: the second HDR type a single stream carries - "hdr10plus" when a Dolby Vision file also has HDR10+ dynamic metadata, "hlg" for a profile 8.4 base

Since that info is now saved in your database, this means that skins can now reliably display the DV profile type in library views, so different indicators for FEL/ MEL / No EL. The latest builds of p3i.estuary is already actually doing this courtesy of u/vlix.

Xiaomi box S 3rd gen controller woes

I cannot for the life of me get controllers to work reliably with this, running CE-NO nightly. I have two 8bitdo controllers and the included remote.

The included remote does not show up on the Bluetooth menu when I try to pair it, and the 8bitdo controllers do not work over the dongle or cable; they do not show up in the peripherals menu, for both udev and Linux drivers.

I can only control the device with a wired keyboard

60fps profile 7.6 Mel

Is this real Mel? So i created a 60fps profile 7.6 Mel. It looks fantastic! Its also hdr10+. I passed through hdr10 throughout my entire workflow which included interpolation to 60fps. Created dolby vision from hdr10 im Davinci and exported DV .xml. Then I created profile 7.6 from RPU.bin. The movie was John Wick.

strange artifacting in some movies

edit 2: I installed p3i over the weekend and did a lot more testing and was actually able to get it to happen with other dovi movies. by forcing p3i to display movies in hdr instead of dovi I can get the issue to go away. after noticing elevated blacks in parts of the ui when dovi was on, I discovered the issue was with my tv (hisense 55h8g). when dovi is on it elevates the blacks very badly, but I was able to fix it by lowering the brightness of the tv until the kodi ui elements looked like they do in other display modes. the picture is obviously darker but it actually looks closer to hdr content, which always looked more dim than dovi content. anyways, just wanted to update here in case someone else stumbles across a similar issue.

edit: i just tested like 50 movies, sdr, hdr, dovi, and NONE of them did the thing like in my videos. literally the only 2 movies I can find that do the artifacting are the ones i posted about. this makes me think the issue is with the video files themselves, not with the ugoos or coreelec. sorry for the trouble but i appreciate those of you offering some insight!

hi all, i just got my am6b+ setup this weekend and am happy with the performance! however, in some movies i get strange artifacting on black parts of the screen. here are some examples:

artifacts on studio logos: https://imgur.com/EDJvtqI

artifacts and flashing in black bars: https://imgur.com/dW0OnPP

does anyone know where i can start to attempt to troubleshoot this issue? i'm not sure if it's an issue with the movie files or the ugoos...fwiw i tested with the ugoos connected directly to my tv instead of through my receiver and get the same issue.

Subtitles font and size using .strm files

Hello guys! I'm a happy user of CoreElec using p3i build. I organised my library using .strm files for each video file (pointing to a URL of a mkv file which is in a distant storage for exemple), so that I dont have to have a big NAS storage. However, when playing a video file through a .strm file, I can't find a way to change the font and size of subtitles, even when turning on all the overrides options. When I actually play an mkv file without using a .strm, I can see my custom settings for the subtitles.

A workaround would be to download subtitles for each file, but it's not very convenient tbh.... Is there a way to apply custom settings on subtitles through a .strm ? Thank you !

Appreciation post - CE AVDVPlus on AM6B+

Just wanted to thank all the creators involved. I pulled the trigger on an AM6B+ about a year, year and a half ago. My wife is finally using it without me, which means Netflix might finally go away! Next step after that.... no more D+!

POV is my go-to for list management with TMDB and Trakt. It's been running well. I still encounter some weird issues requiring reboots, but the price is worth the mildest inconveniences!

Everyone involved in the projects - thank you for your dedication!
