60fps profile 7.6 Mel

Is this real Mel? So i created a 60fps profile 7.6 Mel. It looks fantastic! Its also hdr10+. I passed through hdr10 throughout my entire workflow which included interpolation to 60fps. Created dolby vision from hdr10 im Davinci and exported DV .xml. Then I created profile 7.6 from RPU.bin. The movie was John Wick.

There is absolutely no reason to mux it in p7 if it's MEL, you're just wasting disk space. P8.1 is the same thing there is no difference between the two formats other than the containers. Also, generating fake 60fps from a 24fps source will always gonna generate anomalies/artifacts e.g. water always looks weird even with the slowest most hw demanding Topaz interpolation algo. But ofc if you like it keep it, just make sure to remux it into p8.1.

Well I made a p.8.1 as well and compared the 2 on my ugoos am6b+, it looked much better. You can look up why 7.6 will look way better on this device. They were actually the same file size. As far as Interpolation, I use RIFE SVP for Transcoding. Artifacts are minimal because I do this ALOT!

That's' technically impossible since as I said MEL=p8.1. The two are the same thing in different containers. It's like if you would say that you had a video in mp4 container which you remuxed to mkv and it looked better in mkv. It doesn't work like that. The Ugoos AM6B Plus only makes a difference for FEL because it can decode the secondary 1080p video track. But MEL doesn't have an actual secondary video track, it's just a dummy track with zero video imformation, it's only there to carry the DoVi RPU and that RPU works the same way in p8.1 without the dummy 1080p track. MEL is just the UHD BluRay format for p8.1.

Single-track P7 MEL in an MKV doesn't use a dummy 1080p track—it's just the 4K stream with the RPU injected directly (BL+RPU). That's why the file size is identical to P8.1, zero wasted space. While the metadata math is the same on paper, the AM6B+ handles them differently under the hood. In CoreELEC with dovi.ko, P7 triggers the native UHD disc TV-Led RGB tunneling pipeline, while P8.1 goes through the streaming parser. Plus, this is a hybrid DV + HDR10+ encode. P7 forces the hardware to lock straight onto the DV RPU without any SEI metadata conflicts. But to each his own...

You're really confusing things here that have nothing to do with each other and your last text also feels like an AI slop.

MKV is a container it has nothing to do with how p7 dual layer DoVi is muxed, it can be either single track or dual track, it always has a 1080p secondary layer. Usually for UHD BluRay rips they use the single track dual layer format because most media players can at least decode the RPU that way, but ofc MKV and other containers can carry dual track format just as it's on UHD BD discs. You can also demux a single track p7 file with tools like dovi_tool(link) and then you'll get the 1080p layer in a separate HEVC file, you can check it in a player if it's a MEL dummy or a real, actual FEL video stream.

A p8.1 that's sourced from a MEL remux will never be the exact same size as a 1080p MEL stream is at least 70-100kbps so at least twice the size of the RPU it's carrying. You obviously don't know what you're doing, I'm not sure you have a proper MEL file, it's most probably just a false flag in the MKV container that was forced by some tool. You can generate DoVi metadata in DaVinci Resolve and export it to XML then convert it to a real RPU you can inject in the HDR10 base layer but you can't generate a 1080p MEL stream in DaVinci, there wouldn't be any reason to do so, that's why there isn't an option for it. MEL=p8.1 that's a fact, there will never be any difference between the two if you can properly decode them and Ugoos AM6B+ can so your claim is false.

LOL why would Dolby make a format that doesn't work with streaming (streaming has p5 and you claim TV-LED only works with p7). Most of Dolby's income comes from streaming content their whole focus is to make streaming DoVi the best possible. DoVi 2 MAX is getting realeased for streaming...

P7 does no such thing, if anything it makes conflict for several players because by origin p7 is a dual track standard. That's why BluRay rippers are remuxing discs to single track p7 and p8.1 because getting rid of the MEL track makes it much more straight forward, that way even most TVs can decode DoVi without any external player.

"But to each his own..." - Sure, you didn't make any MEL with DaVinci, and you probably couldn't remux it to p8.1 either. I bet you don't even have the right software on that Ugoos. In the better CE builds you can set up the software to use TV-LED or Player-LED and can fine tune other DoVi features as well. Now you even mentioned your file has HDR10+ so wth do you think that has got to do with DoVi? :D You think your setup is processing DoVi and HDR10+ simultaneously so you get a better picture? 😄 You have a lot of reading to do in the Dolby Vision topic to figure this out.
