Announcement Crowdfunding posts are officially not allowed (generally)

As y'all know, we had a very productive (and civil -- thank you, citizens) discussion about whether or not to allow crowdfunding posts and most of you would rather not see crowdfunding posts.

You spoke, /r/Corvallis listened.

Going forward, we have a new subreddit rule: No crowdfunding posts. There are more appropriate social platforms to post them.

A little clarification:

  • Posts with community events that might fundraise or generate money for a cause (.e., Trivia Nights, benefit concerts, etc.) are ok.

  • Posts with individuals asking directly for money are disallowed.

  • Other posts will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

If you think your crowdfunding campaign should be an exception, I'm willing to hear you out.

Rock on.

Event Scovallis 2026Q2 Discussion Thread: When and Where?

We're way overdue for the next Scovallis so let's fix that.

For those that haven't heard of Scovallis, it's a chance for spicy food loving Corvallisites to get together at a local restaurant and eat spicy food.

If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, then we'd love to see you there.

IIRC, we've done this three times previously: Andy's Mexican (RIP), Evergreen Indian Restaurant, and Tarn Tip.

So, let's figure out when we want to do this and where we want to go.

I'm generally free on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Discussion Great solution

The city has closed the parking lot at the bmx track. Why not just put up some no overnight parking signs and enforce it? There’s already enough going on in this area to discourage people from using the track and this only makes it worse. Folks have put a lot of work into this place and the kids deserve better.

Discussion Has anyone else gotten sick from eating at Riva's ?

I made the poor decision to eat there 24 hours before getting on an international flight. I got a breakfast burrito and only ate half of it because it tasted quite off, and the potatoes they put in it were literally just a paste. There was also a really bad smell in the restaurant, but I ignored it because I was pretty starving at the time.

Anyways, shortly after getting on the plane I started having really bad diharrea and cramping, so bad that I was shaking uncontrollably for hours. I've been laid up for the past 2 days now. Got dehydrated as well.

I took a look at their health inspection record out of interest, and its pretty bad. I have no idea how they haven't been shut down. Their food has always been slop, but after this I will never go back

Saw it driving into town from the Newport coastal highway and would love it if someone could snap a pic! It was SO HUGE and BEAUTIFUL. I'm in awe of the craftsmanship as well as the hauling method.

Discussion Looking for someone local who can help me repair two fragile D&D minis

Howdy! I am in-need of someone who works with miniatures. D&D, Warhammer, doesn't matter. I have two minis that are very fragile and the second one I bought (because I couldn't fix the first years ago) has recently broken thanks to my butterfingers.

Both minis are identical Hero Forge color plastic minis. The mini has narrow arms and ankles and the spell effect one the right arm makes it heavy on the end, and did NOT want to stay for me. I've tried repairing these multiple times and I just can't get it, but I also am not great at the mini making/painting part of my hobby. I'm guessing there is someone close by who can do this right for me. I don't want to give Hero Forge another...$75 (I think that's what it is now?) for a new third copy. I AM willing to pay for the work done right, though.

If you can help, PLEASE comment or DM. & if you have a portfolio, I'd love to see your work!

Almost three-quarters of Corvallis’ city employees could go on strike; the union has been forthcoming about what they’re seeking and why. City officials, however, not so much. Negotiations started back in January. In this story, In this story, The Corvallis Advocate outlines what's happened so far, what the union is asking for, and what may come next.

Discussion Where can I get KN 95 masks in Corvallis? Safeway isn’t carrying them just the cheaper style.

Thank you in advance. Pretty sure my boss is sick and I’m going to ask him to wear one as well as wear one myself, but I didn’t see them upon my first try so I figured rather than calling around or driving everywhere. I just crowdsource for the answer.

Discussion Interview Spaces?

Hi! I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for indoor spaces that are public and don't require the purchase of anything to hang out there. I'm a new reporter in the area and need to find a space that could potentially be good for holding interviews when there's not an office space I can use!

Discussion New bar? Or expansion?

On Friday we saw people moving what looked like a large wooden bar into the space next to Brass Monkey, which has been a few things over the years. Couldn’t find anything for bit on corvallis.agencycounter site. Anyone know if it’s a new business or is BM expanding?

Discussion Backyard chickens question

For Corvallis people who keep backyard chickens, I was wondering--what type of chicken security have you found is necessary, and what has your experience been? A lot of people in Corvallis that I know keep chickens in pretty casual setups, so I've been assuming that Corvallis doesn't have too many predators, but I don't want to risk their lives in an unsubstantiated assumption!

Road Rant Postal truck ignores ambulance

Watched a postal truck on 99 ignoring the ambulance running with lights and siren behind it. Postal truck stops at the light on 99 and circle, blocking ambulance while ambulance leans on the horn until the driver grudgingly edges over bit by bit.
