Card Recommendation Request (Template Used) In need of adulting help (card (s) recommendation

Upvotes

Current cards: 0 cards open. Had a start capital one card but it just got closed due to inactivity and dropped my score by 30pts

• FICO Score: 742
• Oldest account age: e.g. 5 years 4 months
• Income: e.g. $80,000
• Average monthly spend and categories:
• dining $200
• groceries: $700
• gas: $100
• travel: very minimal but will be traveling cross country once per year
• other: $100 (gym)
• Open to Business Cards: e.g. potentially. Just got real estate license but would want a business card later in the future
• What's the purpose of your next card? Definitely to further build my credit and get perks to help my travel costs however it’ll only be once per year and I don’t travel that frequently. I really just need a card to help with that travel and also have one to use for everyday purchases for gas and groceries. But I really only food shop at Walmart and sometimes food lion.
• Do you have any cards you've been looking at? e.g. chase sapphire preferred for the travel but I feel like it’s only geared towards travel. Not really sure what would be good for everyday purchases
• Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card? Yes

Discussion / Conversation 3X Groceries Multiplier On The Freedom Unlimited

Upvotes

Recently, I was looking into getting a grocery card for my set up. I was mainly eyeing the Amex Blue Cash Preferred and I guess my phone must've told Chase because I received an email this morning with a promotion giving me 3x on groceries up until 10/31, for my Freedom Unlimited.

It got me thinking, why doesn't chase remove the 3x dining & 3x drugstores multipliers and just add the 3x on groceries? Just get rid of the overlap with the Freedom Flex and get more people using the Freedom Unlimited.

Do y'all think Chase is trying some things out for a potential refresh of the freedom cards?

P.S. I plan on taking advantage of this promo and then open up the AMEX BCP

Discussion / Conversation My new Capital One Quicksilver card is staying Visa?

Upvotes

My Capital One Quicksilver Visa card is expiring this December. I just received an email that my new Quicksilver card will be mailed to me four to six weeks before the expiration month. It also stated that while the expiration date and CVV code are changing, the 16 digit card number is NOT changing. Since my 16 digit card number is not changing, am I safe to assume that my Quicksilver is staying a Visa card and not going on the Discover network (at least for now)? Is it because my Quicksilver is a Visa card and not a Mastercard or is it because it's a replacement card for an expiring card and not for a brand new customer? Anyone who recently received a replacement card for either a Quicksilver Visa or Quicksilver Mastercard have any insight about this?

Help Needed / Question Robinhood Gold 3% Visa - Who Administers the Purchase Benefits?

Upvotes

I just got the Robinhood Gold Visa Signature card with a $10,000 limit, and I’m trying to figure out how to actually use the advertised Visa Signature benefits (Return Protection, Purchase Security, Extended Warranty, etc.).

So far, every benefit portal I’ve tried says my card has no benefits registered.

Here’s what I’ve tried: CardClaimCenter.com → Error saying “We couldn’t confirm any benefits for the credit card you selected.” https://ibb.co/n8bhnTGN

CardBenefitServices.com → Same thing, no benefits found. I even called the number the site gave me, and the rep looked up my card number and said the only benefit showing for my BIN is Accidental Collision (Auto Rental CDW) — nothing else. https://ibb.co/Hfjs6XNm

Basically, every Visa benefit administrator is telling me my Robinhood Gold card does not have Return Protection, Purchase Security, or Extended Warranty activated, even though Robinhood’s marketing implies it should.

Has anyone actually gotten these benefits to work? What portal do you use to file a claim?

Thanks!

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Applying for another card but don’t know which one!

Upvotes

I’ve been with Discover It for like 5 yrs now and have a good credit score. I love this card, but it’s not a Visa or Mastercard, so I can’t always use it. I’m looking into getting another card for this exact reason, but don’t know which one I should apply for. From what I’ve seen online, I’m considering Chase Freedom Unlimited or Citi Simplicity. Thoughts?? Thank you in advance!

Edit: extra details! I only have the Discover It card, it’s been open since like 2021, I have a credit score of ~760, and a credit line of $4,500

Help Needed / Question Chase debit on Paze eligibility

Upvotes

Hi, getting to the end of the Paze promo and I am looking to maximize the cards/credits my family has left. Just curious, my wife has her own (separate) Chase debit card listed as available for the promo. If it's under the same checking account, can she double dip, using her own $100? She of course has her own Paze wallet under her phone number. I have used my own credits for my debit card but wanted to clarify so I don't waste some cash.

Help Needed / Question 18m how do I get approved for a credit card??

I just turned 18 on the 13th of August, and well I finally got around to setting up a credit card (which I’ve been wanting to do for a while) and well i settled on a capital one card after a few hours of research and tried the pre approval they offer

Well anyways they said they can’t offer me any cards at this time

I’m making roughly 15-20k a year (I know it’s not a lot) I have no credit history whatsoever (I think that may be why) like no loans, no nothing, unless my parents used my name to something I don’t know about.

And well idk what to do now, I guess try discover it, or chase? I bank with prosperity so unfortunately I don’t have a foot in the door with chase.

Well anyways I could really use some advice, because I’m getting kinda overwhelmed 😭 especially by all the different options

Help Needed / Question Equifax won't give me my credit report

Hi guys, so I was trying to request a credit report from Equifax on annualcreditreport.com but they kept saying something went wrong and then I switched from safari to Google Chrome and it told me the same thing except in Chrome they asked me a few security questions (I guess?) before showing me the same page that says something went wrong? I did call whatever number they provided me and they ( it was a robot the entire call btw ) said they would mail the credit report to me but I'm not at the address right now and I just want an electronic copy of the report saved on my mac so it's easier to access. Does anyone know what I should do ? ( Experian and TransUnion did not give me these troubles )

( the same thing happened to me a few months ago btw )

Thanks!

Help Needed / Question Disputing a fee I paid for that was eventually waived?

Hi friends,

I purchased access to the Law School Admission Council’s online application services, which is necessary in order to apply to law schools. However, I recently discovered a fee waiver I could apply for and was granted it, giving me free access to these online application services I had already paid for.

I reached out to their customer service and asked if I could get my $124 back since I was given access to it for free, but they said it was nonrefundable.

Can/should I dispute this charge with my credit card?

Help Needed / Question Discount Tire Credit Card Worth It?

I have been an authorized user on my Mom's capital one credit card for a few years now and got my very first own credit card last October. That credit card had to be secured. My credit score is now in the low 700s and never had a missed payment, etc. I need new tires by winter and Discount Tire offers a credit card with no interest for 9 months, and I rather do that than pay $1,400 all at once. My question is has anyone had the Discount Tire CC and is it worth it or something to be wary of? And also should I apply at my current credit union to see if I can upgrade my current CC to be unsecured/regular (whatever you want to call it) or should I just apply for the DT CC and not worry about the secured card?

Help Needed / Question Are Capital One "Offers" Just...Not Real?

I've tried using the capital one offers on the VX 10 times with various stores/merchants now and haven't got the advertised bonus a single time. I’ve seen many comments here saying the same thing. What gives? Has anyone actually got them to work? Recently I tried the Amazon offer for a bonus 1000 miles with a $25 purchase. I placed the order on Aug 26, Amazon charged my card and shipped the order on the 29th. But of course that didn't post until today, funny how the processing for these always takes more than 3 days when it's usually 2. All other offers I've tried say to click the link when you activate it and make the purchase. Regardless if I try that on my phone or computer there is never a payout even 90 days later. And yes, I disable extensions. This isn't a big deal to be fair, but rather scummy on C1's part. Just curious if anyone else has had this happen?

Discussion / Conversation Closed: Citi Strata Elite. Downgrade options

AF came up this week and asked about what downgrade paths were available and unfortunately it was only ATT card of some sort that earns TY points or American Airlines cards.

Was hoping custom cash would still be available but was not. Guess it’s really toast.

As for the strata elite… just didn’t find good value in it. I still hold the Citi Prestige and it’s just a way better daily earner. That Blacklane credit was mostly useless.

Edit: I was not offered any strata cards. Meant to say AA.

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Credit Card for My "Construction Business"-ish thing?

I have a question about possibly getting a credit card (my first... so obviously I have some learning to go out and do) for what has unexpectedly become my main source of income. I've been doing renovation/handyman stuff, which started as a side gig and is just more profitable than my day job now. I don't even really know *exactly* what it is I do yet, I just keep asking people if they have anything they want done and keep saying "would you like a qoute?"

I've never had a credit card because I watched one of my parents destroy the familys financial situation with them as a teen on pure garbage. But I've been using those annoying mail-in rebates on all the materials I'm buying for clients and thinking "hey, this is pretty sweet"

So it got me thinking... what if on top of the rebates I'm getting for my business expenses... could there be a credit card that gets me a little bit more money back on construction materials?

Let me know what you think.

Card Recommendation Request (Template Used) Upcoming Spend: Looking for Next Card Recs

I used to play the card game a lot, but then I got fed up with it, it became too much to manage and just not worth it. But now I have about $10K-$15K spend coming up, so considering getting a new card. This would really be just to get a SUB, I'm not really interested in playing the game on my daily spend. Is it worth getting

Some important notes:

  • I'm in AMEX Popup jail (have been for 7+ years, no idea why), but my husband isn't, so he could do an AMEX, he has the gold.
  • I'm based in NYC and usually fly whatever is cheapest / has a good deal. I never fly first/business and I'm not loyal to any airline.
  • I fly mostly internationally, but we're expecting a baby next year so not sure how much I'll be flying. That being said, it's important to me that the points don't expire.
  • I currently have 550K+ points on the chase portal, 150K on Cap One, and 130K United miles. Everything else is minimal.

Template

  • Current cards: (list cards, limits, opening date)
    • Chase Sapphire Preferred - everyday card for food + travel
    • Capital One Venture X - everyday card for everything else
    • Chase Inks (all of them, one of each)
    • Chase Sapphire Reserve - Business - Opened 10 months ago, will close once AF hits.
    • Chase United card
    • Citi American Airlines Card
  • FICO Score: 800+
  • Oldest account age: 10+ years
  • Chase 5/24 status: under
  • Income: high
  • Average monthly spend and categories: not relevant, only interested in SUB
  • Open to Business Cards: yes
  • What's the purpose of your next card? Best points for SUB
  • Do you have any cards you've been looking at?
    • Chase Sapphire Reserve - not sure if it's worth the AF
    • Citi Strata Premier / Elite - not sure if it's worth the AF
    • Atmos - I don't fly Alaska much, BUT they often have great deals
    • JetBlue Plus
    • Hyatt (I know the redemption is great, I just don't stay in Hyatts much)
    • worth a business card? 20K-30K in three months will be tough to meet, in 6 months easy.
  • Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card? don't care if the SUB is good.
