SONGBIRD: Been thinking about our conversation... couldn't shake the feeling of deja vu. You awakened a memory that had faded. One I can enjoy again.
V: Memory of what?
SONGBIRD: Another conversation I had once with a close friend. *Honest, real, no ulterior motives...* V, after all those years with the agency, questioning every word, every gesture, every twitch... always looking over my shoulder... do you know what that's like?
V: Can't say I relate. Sounds awful tho.
SONGBIRD: I've failed so many people over the years, but I won't fail you. That cycle of self-disappointment ends now.

So Mi, you are such a lying sack of shit. You knew the whole time you were going to fuck V over. Or at least, I think an FIA netrunner with her abilities/knowledge/access of the neural matrix, which would be greater than almost anybody's, probably knew from the get go it wouldn't work for both of them. Maybe you disagree about the timing of her knowing that it will only work for one person, to be honest, I haven't yet finished PL even once, so I concede without hesitation that I could be wrong about this.
If you disagree, I don't really mind spoilers because it has already been spoiled for me, so if you want, clarify why you think she didn't know early on that the cure wouldn't work fir V as well as herself and that she always planned to use it for herself.
Anyway, I digress.
But sometimes I think... is it any mark of genuine kindness if the only people you help are people you like and approve of? By nature, I think most people are relationship oriented and are willing to help, even if in limited ways, their friends, coworkers, and family, people they are close to and interact with.
But that's kind of... easy. And expected. Isn't it? Like the baseline of a relationship?
But thw game posits that true kindness might lie in helping someone you think doesn't "deserve" it, someone you judge negatively, even someone you just plain don't like.
I suppose there is something redemptive about helping Songbird. In a way, I suppose it's as selfless as the Caldos going to battle for you and taking them with you out of Night City in the Star ending. Like, they really walk the walk with the whole "all for one, one for all" ethos. A not small group of people sacrificed their lives just so V could go try to fix the Relic situation.
It doesn't really make sense if you're like most people and not saintly in your relationships. If I were just a random Caldo and not one of the veterans that had gotten to know V, I'd probably be like, "why the fuck am I supposed to go to war and die for this Night City person who Panam may or may not be banging?!"
But they did it because they are genuine, kind people. And sparing So Mi, I assume, is done in that same spirit.
