Of course he’s talking about giving people a pathway back into politics and reaching out to them, but that doesn’t mean shilling for them, dismissing criticism as “clipped out of context,” or refusing to critically engage beyond “they said something I disagree with.” At that point, you’re not creating a pathway back, you’re just lowering the bar for people you already want in the tent and brushing aside everyone else’s extremely valid concerns in the process.

And he can complain all he wants that people are trying to stick criticisms of Hasan on him, but that completely sidesteps the actual issue that Hasan has repeatedly and openly praised, defended, or whitewashed genuinely horrific groups and authoritarian regimes. This isn’t people digging up one edgy joke from ten years ago. He’s said he would vote for Hamas over Israel every single time, said he has not a single issue with Hezbollah as a militant force against Israel, defended the Houthis as legitimate resistance and said Ansar Allah was doing the right thing, cheered on actual terrorist attacks and said they were “awesome,” and gave an incredibly friendly interview to an actual fucking Houthi while mocking people in his chat for calling him a terrorist.

He has also shilled for authoritarian states when it suits his politics, saying that China “did Tibet a favor” when discussing its takeover and repression there, and saying that Russia’s annexation of Crimea was justifiable because he calls it “A part of Russian Territory Bitch.”

Instead of addressing any of that, he repeatedly goes onto huge platforms and runs defense for Hasan and acts like people are being unreasonable for questioning why he’s so eager to associate himself with him.
