Hi everyone,
āIām posting because Iāve noticed some unusual behaviors in my younger brother lately, and I don't know exactly what the underlying issue is.
He is a 36 year old male who has had schizophrenia for about 16 years. He's on a low dose of antispychotics (olanzapine) and on a low dose of a medication called chlomfrenil. Hey doing well overall but struggling with negative symptoms like alogia and avolition.
āHe has started doing these things frequently:
āShaking his head repeatedly from side to side.
āTouching or rubbing his face over and over.
āRapid eye fluttering or blinking.
- some yawning/jaw movement activity
āThe part that concerns me most is that sometimes he gets "stuck." He will become unresponsive during these movements for a few minutes, almost like heās lost in them in a bit of a trance. Then he suddenly snaps out of it and doesn't seem to remember the episode. He does seem to be able to hear us and process what we are saying because as soon as he snaps out of it he responds appropriately. The episodes last anywhere from 30 seconds to 5min.
I took him to a neurologist but he didn't experience the movements there so they just said he was fine.
I showed a video but they also didn't really seem to give much importance to it, and i think it is getting worse.
āIf anyone has experience with this or is a medical professional, Iād really appreciate your thoughts on what this sounds like. I would be happy to upload a video if needed.
Thank you!
