Horrible DM does not speak names

DM is starting to introduce new characters and NPCs but then he trails off mid-sentence and remains silent for about 30 seconds. Then he continues playing the game without ever telling the group what my elf, Ael’ru’ath’hal’ion’del’meth’ari’an’oth’las’vel’tor’ian’is-tari of the House of Chrysanthemum-Crowned Willow-Weep, is called.

When my DM refused to put some respect on my elf's christened name, Ai-Liq-Mi-Oon-Dichan-D'Balls, I knew I was at a casual rollplayer table.

Totally uncalled for.

I mean, what would Norma Mortenson think!

I always speak the name of all the PCs in my game -- I gave them to them, after all...

You call him horrible but it is he who knows that names hold power and you stay your tongue lest you invite that which should remain uninvited.

The party enters into a new village and an elderly man approaches to greet them. Poor and dressed in rags, but kind looking and learned. He approaches the party and asks their names. Each replies in turn and your character is last. He spills forth his name as though rattling it off to for the thousandth time today. Ael’ru’ath’hal’ion’del’meth’ari’an’oth’las’vel’tor’ian’is-tari of the House of Chrysanthemum-Crowned Willow-Weep.

The old man stares at him... kind of lost... "For brevity may I call you Ael'ru?"

"No you may not. Here I'll help you. Names have significance and power don't you know". A child from the village tugs on your sleeve and tries to whisper with a lisp something about a secret. You try again and a third time the old man trying but failing each time. In a fit of frustration you flail your arms about and rebuke yourself for spending so much time on this.

"It seems like we are making no progress here. I don't even know why I have wasted breath on this foolish endeavor. Get away from us we have business to do."

"Names have significance and power you say? You never asked mine...", said the old man.

"I know I know", said the child, "Iths partuh of my thecret. Fibian Fabilou an heth special".

"What an odd name? You say he's supposed to be special." You say this as you hear a canary singing nearby and another two lite upon his shoulders.

You look around and notice the party is no longer with you and pretends to face away as the old mans eyes begin to glow and the village is cast in shadow".

--- I think you need a new character sheet. Perhaps one with a character limit. ---

As I read your elf's name, Paul Simon's classic "You can call me Al" started playing in my head. So it's kind of important that you now play this song anytime you introduce yourself.

Even you managed to read my elf's name, but not my fucking horrible DM.

Pathfinder 2 solves this problem by substituting names for a tight action economy
