Some DM inspiration for creating monsters.
galleryThis sub is honestly better than all the actual dnd subs; this is a somewhat serious idea lol.
https://pokemon.alexonsager.net
I’m a forever dm basically; I always mix up monsters and reskin stuff bc it’s funny.
Anyways,
https://pokemon.alexonsager.net
But also; somebody should make this, but with the original 5e monster manual.

dnDONE What is "fun"?
I’ve heard some player friends of mine who play D&D 5e with homebrew use that word, but I can't find it anywhere in the Pathfinder 2e rulebibles or in AON. Is it some kind of general feat? Why does everyone seem so happy about it? I don't feel like it's a very good rule; it's probably unbalanced.
I even tried asking their GM what this means, but he said he didn't know either.

The bad R-word - it's not that bad though!
I'm relatively new to DnD and especially to DMing DnD. What I found very interesting is that every subreddit I'm a part of, over all hates the R word. And I wonder why.
I keep reading these posts "is it too r word-y, if...", mostly followed with "my players are having fun, but I'm scared"
Like what do you mean, you're scared of having some r word like it's a bad, forbitten word and style. If your players like it the way it is, it doesn't matter if it's the most r word campaign to ever exist. Why is that such a fear amongst new DMs? I just don't get it

Horrible DM does not speak names
DM is starting to introduce new characters and NPCs but then he trails off mid-sentence and remains silent for about 30 seconds. Then he continues playing the game without ever telling the group what my elf, Ael’ru’ath’hal’ion’del’meth’ari’an’oth’las’vel’tor’ian’is-tari of the House of Chrysanthemum-Crowned Willow-Weep, is called.

Check out my monk rework Here's my solution to the martial caster divide
So I know this has been argued ad nauseum and nobody can even seem to agree on what the divide is. But I think I've finally solved the problem, whatever it is.
Magical college debt.
Basically casters had to go to school to learn their magic right? Well make them pay. For every caster level gained add 100^L gold debt where L is level. If they do not make payments on this debt every new adventuring day, their spell components are automatically garnished.
Now you may ask, what about sorcerers and warlocks?
Well warlocks are martial adjacent enough they can be spared since they are basically interchangeable with an Eldritch knight wielding a heavy crossbow. Besides selling your soul is basically the same as taking out student loans.
Sorcerers I haven't gotten that far. But I promise it will be fixed after I create my Kickstarter and reach the 100k funding goal. Maybe something about wasting their arcane trust funds on magical drugs or something.
Thoughts? Only positive ones please.

DM bad Horrible DM is not pronouncing names properly
DM is starting to introduce new characters and NPCs but is struggling to speak their names properly and is pulling horrible names out instead of doing it properly. Mat Merser would never do something like that. How do I know the names of DM’s NPCs better than him you might ask? Well, I’m just superior as a person.

DM bad DM giving players homework?
Not really a table dispute. But… about 3 weeks out from a new long form campaign. DM asks the players do homework. Is this a fair to ask players to do homework, when everyone has busy lives doomscrolling 7 hours a day and zoning out while watching netflix outside of the game?
Do one of the of these things:
Remember at least 2 rules but 1 is okay if it's hard
Talk to the other players at the table (i literally have anxiety and ocd and ptsd btw!!)
Don't eat all my food when you come over
What the fuck?? First of all, I thought the DM's job is to rub my feet and jerk me off while i talk about how badass my OC is. I mean i literally filled out the character sheet without help (i just used chatgpt) and i only showed up 50 minutes late to the session. Back in the day DMs appreciated when they had dedicated players like me. The least my DM could do now is make it up to me by commisioning art for 5 busty tiefling NPCs who flirt with my self insert in the tavern. AND THERE BETTER BE GOTH MOMMY DROWS ALONG THE WAY or i will write (=use chatgpt) to write a 20 page essay on erpeegeehorrorstories about how toxic and manipulative narcissistic homophone he is...

DM advice needed: how to kick a problem player?
Hi everyone, thanks for reading my post. I need some advice on kicking a problem player; how do I avoid hurting my own foot on impact? I never kicked a person before, just puppies and cats, but people are way bigger so I'm having second thoughts

Sauce Anyone here have experience with use of AI accusations?
I recently self-published a game and just this past week it's started to sell well. And by that I mean it's selling more than I expected. Anyway this morning I got my first use of AI accusation on Drivethrurpg. Anyone have experience with this or have any idea how common this accusation is? I am a bit taken aback because the meat of the text and all the art is from something I self-published in 2016 before AI existed. It's gone through a ton of iteration since then, but the root is there. Admittedly I've done what is essentially spellchecks through AI to catch mistakes and inconsistencies (like when i change a rule and don't fix it in all the places it's mentioned) and some ideas for some of the table layouts (of tables that already existed), which I then adjusted, cut and pasted, and they're all tables made in Word, so nothing fancy (which is a nightmare btw, i regret not learning Indesign and doing it in there). Other than that, nothing was generated but as much as there is no proof of AI use it's also just my word against theirs, right?

Check out my monk rework Would an Alpha Male character be problematic?
Been cooking up a new character for fun. Not that I’m starting a new campaign, I just like creating characters. That way I might be able to play him in the future. Anyway anyway, point is, he’s an Alpha Male. Plain and simple. I think this is super fun, however, I realize it could for sure mess with the game.
I know players tend to strongly dislike influencer characters, because, in a game of roleplaying and describing everything you do, it prevents a lot of communication. However, I think an alpha male character can work, assuming my DM allows me to have a strong sense of direction and not just bump into everything. Very much like Joe Rogan from The Joe Rogan Experience (starring Joe Rogan ). He’s a podcast, but doesn’t use a Blue Yeti mic and doesn’t exactly need one. He can also fight just as well as anyone else in the podcast. My character would be able to as well, just like Joe Rogan, DM willing. My character can still talk and move around just fine, simply can’t shut up about conspiracies.
That being said, maybe I’m overlooking a big issue. So I just want input. Would a hold character be annoying to have in the party? Does he seem overpowered or full of holes because he can’t see, and yet would be able to attack enemies as if he could? If so, I have no problem simply making him an OC instead of a character for D&D.
Edit: I appreciate all the feedback! An overall no-go, it seems. Lots of the explanations as to why were very understandable, so, OC it is. And maybe a brief NPC in my campaign when I DM :)

dnDONE is this even legal???
i hate it when other people at the table play a character that’s too similar to mine. if we both play rogue, what are we gonna do? unlock the door at the same time together? stab the guy twice from the shadows? get real. we need to have our own niches. Like spellcaster, spellcaster, spellcaster, spellcaster with wildshape, and human fighter.
fast forward to today when i find out two freaking noobs are trying to play ranger when im already playing ranger!!!!!!!! i am so mad i could just spit.
my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. do not even suggest changing my class. my sails are without wind forever. there is nothing i could ever do to change or fix this situation

hAvE yOu TrIeD pAtHfInDeR 2e RPG that's heroic medieval fantasy but everyone has skateboards?
So I am looking for a TTRPG that's basically just DnD/pathfinder but everyone gets a skateboard and traverses by skateboard. Horses still exist but they also travel on large skateboards. There should be skeletons too and they should be doing some sick grinding. Dragons should be capable of doing at least one flip trick to cause shockwave damage.
No I'm not just going to play a game i already have and add skateboards in myself. I want a game that explicitly gives me permission to do this. I need to spend more money on RPG products. A supplement is fine but I really want it to be a full on system preferably costing a minimum of 30 dollars for the PDF. If it's a Kickstarter I'm not getting the full product for until a year has passed and I'm bored of the concept all the better.
Please and thank you.

dnDONE Anime Fans should get Disintegrated.
Man, I hate when people ask for Superhuman strength and abilities for martial characters, as we all know, it's the only medium with these mid things that none of us want. I mean if you haven't played Chainmail and 1e, just don't talk, just say you are a tourist who should play call of Midhullhu. We all know that the fighter should swig that damn sword, now you want MULTIPLE SWINGS IN A AREAAAAA. Just play a wizard man come one. Everyone also knows that AOE are only for spells. People also have the audacity to say that 80% of martial subclasses are magical or animelike (Soul knife you damn BROKEN ROGUE). These pricks don't realize that no one uses these subclasses, the only fighter is champion and the battle master is already pushing my nerves, Zealot is the only barbarian, Way of the open hand is the only monk, and rogue is banned (DAMN BROKEN CLASS). I just appreciate my loved casters for never getting out of line with their flavor to do everything. Anyway, someone please launch a new atomic bomb on Japan and compile a restrictive order on all Anime Fans and GODAMN ROGUES.

AITA Reliable Talent destroys party creativity.
When a Rogue literally cannot fail a DC 15 Stealth or Sleight of Hand check, it deprives the rest of the table of the opportunity to solve problems creatively. Success is boring; failure is where true party synergy shines. A few examples from my campaign:
The Rogue was tailing a minor suspect. I gave him six quick, routine skill checks across the market district, but he rolled a 2 on his Stealth check inside the local brothel. The suspect spotted him, locked him in a windowless room, and barricaded the unbreakable iron door. This is where the game actually started. Forced to step up, our Wizard brilliantly burned two 4th-level spell slots on Gaseous Form and Dimension Door just to slip under the door frame and rescue him. Truly brilliant, emergent storytelling.
Later, the Rogue tried to infiltrate a noble’s manor with an absurdly overcomplicated plan: planting a forged letter in a private desk just to gauge the noble’s reaction. Naturally, he failed the DC 15 lockpicking check on the study cabinet. This triggered a glyph alarm that landed him in the dungeon. Because I run my guards as realistic and hyper-competent, they served him completely boneless stew—I refuse to let my players abuse the tired trope of carving a lockpick out of a chicken bone.
This led to a phenomenal roleplaying moment. The rest of the party discovered the Rogue had been sentenced to execution at dawn. The tension at the table was unreal! The Wizard and Druid spent two hours in deep, emotional in-character debate about whether his life was even worth saving, legal and moral implications. Of course, I'm not a bad DM, so I generously gave the party a full Long Rest right outside the castle walls before the break-in.
Armed with fresh slots, the Druid used Meld into Stone for a dramatic, cinematic jailbreak. Afterwards, the party abandoned the letter idea entirely, travelled three weeks north to an abandoned temple I spent a month prepping, recovered a lost artefact, and used it to force the noble into a Zone of Truth. Far more rewarding.

4e bad GURPS 6e
Why does Steve Jackson Games not simply publish GURPS 6e? Are they STUPID? They already were one edition late when WotC published D&D 5e, now they're one and a half editions late!! It seems they want to go bankrupt, otherwise instead of wasting time on GURPS 4e Revised (wth is a Revised????) they would have simply published GURPS 6e since it is an inevitable mathematical certainty that 6 > 5.5 > 5 > 4. Anyway here is my favorite GURPS character builder:
