๐๐๐ฉ๐/๐๐๐ฌ๐จ Dragonโs Dogma 2: Dark Arisen โ What We Actually Know So Far
There have now been numerous Gamescom interviews with Director Kento Kinoshita and Producers Naoto Oyama and Yoshiaki Hirabayashi. A lot of these interviews cover the same ground, while others have added some important details.
Rather than continuing to add separate updates, Iโve consolidated the confirmed information here by subject, along with the questions that still remain unanswered.
One important thing to keep in mind: the Gamescom demos use curated characters and equipment and take place at the beginning of Norgan. They should not be taken as a complete representation of the expansion, its difficulty, enemy variety, story or later-game content.
Norgan โ The Forsaken Dominion
The recommended starting level for Norgan is around 40, although this is a recommendation rather than a requirement. Access to the expansion becomes available relatively early through Brant after reaching Vernworth.
Norgan itself is roughly one-quarter the size of Vermund.
The main story is estimated at around 15โ20 hours, depending on how it is played, with sidequests and exploration in addition to that. Kinoshita has also said that difficulty increases as the expansion progresses and that the middle and later portions should provide a challenge for high-level and even stat-capped characters.
Norgan also contains sidequests and sidequest chains, including quest designs using elements that were not present in the base game. Kinoshita has compared some of them favorably, in his own estimation, to the Sphinx questline.
The story becomes progressively darker toward the middle and latter portions of the expansion.
The connection between the heartless Arisen and the heartless Fallen Dragon is intentional and is an important part of the story. Further details surrounding that relationship have not been revealed.
Exploration, Weather & Survival
Norganโs frozen environment introduces new gameplay mechanics.
Cold can reduce maximum stamina, while equipment can provide Cold Resistance. Consumables and certain properties on Appraised equipment can also help counter its effects.
Blizzards can severely reduce visibility and can even obscure the minimap.
There are also environmental interactions, including grabbing and throwing large icicles and using them to cause environmental collapses.
Some routes and obstacles can be overcome through particular Pawn actions, while others become accessible through story progression or the use of specific items.
Travel & Portcrystals
Norgan has a higher density of Portcrystals than the base game.
Kinoshita explained that this was intentional because of Norganโs increased difficulty and the Relic/Appraisal gameplay loop, which involves returning with what has been collected.
Players can also obtain four additional placeable Portcrystals while progressing through Norgan.
The Eternal Ferrystone provides an additional fast-travel option alongside the existing travel systems.
Relics & Appraisal
Relics and Appraisal form one of Dark Arisenโs major progression systems.
The basic gameplay loop is:
Explore โ find unidentified Relics โ return with them โ spend Rift Crystals (RC) to Appraise them โ discover their properties โ continue searching for better equipment.
Appraisal involves more than randomized attack and defense values.
Weapons can potentially receive Custom Skill EX properties, which enhance vocation skills, while Relics can also receive other Special Properties.
The number and type of properties can vary, and higher-level Relics found later in the expansion can produce more extreme results.
Relics cannot be enhanced normally at a blacksmith. Progression instead comes through finding and Appraising better Relics.
Unidentified Relics do not necessarily have to be Appraised. Unwanted ones can instead be exchanged for RC, which can then be used toward other Appraisals.
The inventory system is also receiving Favorites and vocation-specific filtering, allowing larger quantities of equipment to be sorted more easily.
The Snowfoot also interacts directly with the Relic system. It can steal Relics from the player and flee. Following it back to its home can lead to the recovery of the stolen Relics as well as others it has collected.
Lost Rites โ 12 New Dungeons
There are 12 Lost Rites dungeons being added throughout the existing DD2 world.
The recommended starting level is around 20, although this is again a starting recommendation rather than a level requirement.
Each dungeon is expected to take approximately 30 minutes to one hour on an initial run.
The Lost Rites have different strategic concepts. Kinoshita has given examples such as long corridors favoring ranged combat versus environments designed around close-range encounters.
The dungeons can be challenged repeatedly, and subsequent runs may feature different combinations of enemies rather than simply reproducing the same encounters.
There is no level scaling, meaning sufficiently powerful characters may have an easier time with the earlier Lost Rites.
First-time clears can provide unique weapons and equipment. These rewards are separate from Relics and can be enhanced normally.
Lost Rites also provide enhancement materials, and completing all 12 reveals a larger connection between the dungeons and the gameโs lore.
Some Lost Rites content will also be present in the Unmoored World, although Kinoshita has said Dark Arisen otherwise will not have a substantial impact on the Unmoored World experience.
Hard Mode
Hard Mode will launch alongside Dark Arisen.
Players can either begin a new game in Hard Mode or switch an existing playthrough from Normal to Hard.
However:
Once a playthrough is switched to Hard Mode, it cannot be returned to Normal until that playthrough has been completed.
Hard Mode is not limited to increasing enemy statistics.
Kinoshita has specifically said that enemy placement, AI decision-making and behavior patterns are changed in many places.
Recovery items and resource management are also intended to become more important, requiring more consideration about when resources should be used.
Hard Mode will also provide increased experience and rewards.
Hard Mode remains optional, with Normal Mode retaining the standard Dark Arisen difficulty and progression.
Vocations & Skills
There are no new Vocations being added with Dark Arisen.
Instead, the existing Vocations are being expanded.
The free update increases the available Weapon Skill slots from four to six, while Dark Arisen adds new skills for every Vocation.
These new vocation skills are separate from the Custom Skill EX properties obtained through Relics.
Some of the new skills are returning skills from the original Dragonโs Dogma.
Kinoshita has described the general approach as expanding and strengthening the existing identity of each Vocation rather than fundamentally changing how those Vocations function.
Pawns
A number of the Pawn improvements discussed during Gamescom are part of the base-game updates rather than being exclusive to Dark Arisen.
These include Pawns assisting while the Arisen is climbing, shielding the Arisen, following up after smaller enemies are launched into the air, assisting with environmental obstacles and other cooperative behaviors.
Kinoshita also provided a specific example of adjustments made to Pawn behavior.
When the Arisen is falling and a Pawn is nearby, the probability of the Pawn successfully attempting to catch the Arisen was previously around 60%. This has been increased to approximately 85%.
Dragonsplague-infected Pawns are also receiving additional benefits and actions as part of an effort to make Dragonsplague function more clearly as a risk/reward mechanic rather than solely as a penalty.
Equipment Appearance / Transmog
Dark Arisen introduces what is essentially a transmog system.
A sidequest chain in Norgan unlocks the ability to change the appearance of equipment while retaining its actual stats and performance.
The information provided so far specifically discusses this feature in relation to weapons and armor obtained in Norgan.
The complete rules have not yet been explained, including which appearances can be used, how equipment from the base game interacts with the system and whether additional restrictions apply.
For now, it is confirmed that equipment appearance can be changed independently of its stats, but the full extent of the system remains unknown.
What Is โ and Isnโt โ Changing in the Base Game
The 12 Lost Rites dungeons are being added throughout the existing DD2 world, with some Lost Rites content also extending into the Unmoored World.
The free updates are also making changes to Pawn behavior, Dragonsplague, Weapon Skill slots, inventory management and other systems.
There has been no confirmation of a wholesale overhaul of Normal Mode Vermund and Battahlโs existing overworld enemy spawns or encounter structure.
Hard Mode is different. Kinoshita has explicitly confirmed that enemy placement, AI decision-making and behavior patterns change in many places while playing in Hard Mode.
These are two separate things and should not be conflated.
How Much Content?
The Norgan main story is estimated at approximately 15โ20 hours.
The 12 Lost Rites are estimated at approximately 30โ60 minutes each.
Including sidequests and exploration, Capcom has estimated more than 25 hours of expansion content.
The Lost Rites are repeatable, and the Relic/Appraisal progression system is also designed around repeated exploration and acquisition of new equipment, so those systems are not fully represented by the story-length estimate.
Still Unknown
Despite the number of interviews released during Gamescom, several significant questions remain unanswered:
Can Appraised Relics be gifted through Pawns?
Are Appraised items account-bound?
Exactly how much RC does Appraisal cost, and are there additional restrictions?
What are the complete rules governing higher-tier Relics, Special Properties and Custom Skill EX rolls?
Exactly how does the transmog system interact with equipment from the base game?
What awaits players in the middle and latter portions of Norgan?
Of course, the larger story questions surrounding the threat in Norgan remain deliberately unanswered.

๐๐๐ฉ๐/๐๐๐ฌ๐จ New Famitsu + V-Jump Interviews: Hard Mode, Norgan Difficulty, Progression & Player Feedback
UPDATE: This post is now being used as a consolidated roundup of the new DD2: Dark Arisen developer interviews. An additional Inven interview has been added below, and I'll add any substantially new information from other interviews as it becomes available.
Two new Japanese interviews have come out, one from Famitsu, V-Jump and InvenGlobal. There is some overlap between them, particularly regarding Hard Mode, but each contains information the other doesn't, so I thought it would be useful to put the important points together.
HARD MODE โ CONFIRMED FOR OCTOBER 9
Both interviews confirm that Hard Mode will arrive alongside Dark Arisen on October 9, as part of an update that includes the base game.
V-Jump gives considerably more detail about how it will work:
- Hard Mode can be played from the beginning of the base game.
- Difficulty increases as you progress. A Level 1 character is NOT immediately going to be fighting enemies balanced for stat-capped characters.
- Hard Mode Norgan and the later Forgotten Trials dungeons are specifically being balanced with highly developed characters in mind.
- Kinoshita uses roughly Level 200 as an example of where a character who has consistently played one vocation may be approaching their natural stat caps.
- Difficulty should primarily be judged according to the Arisen's level, not the levels of hired Pawns. His example is that a Level 50 Arisen hiring Level 100+ friend Pawns should probably still play Normal.
- You can begin on Normal and later switch to Hard if you want more challenge.
- Once you switch to Hard, however, you cannot simply switch back to Normal.
- The new feature allowing us to force an existing save into another cycle can be used to return to Normal, but that means beginning the cycle again.
- Hard Mode gives increased XP and adjustments to some, but not all, enemy drops.
One thing that still isn't entirely clear is exactly what happens to your current world/story progression at the moment you switch from Normal to Hard.
THE GAME DEMOS ARE VERY EARLY NORGAN
Famitsu provides some useful context for everything we've been seeing at Gamescom.
The developers say the playable demo represents a very early part of the DLC, shortly after arriving in Norgan.
Norgan itself changes as we progress. We begin in the snowy northern environment we've been seeing, but later the atmosphere becomes considerably darker and the types of monsters encountered also change.
So the Snow Cyclops, Yeti, Fimbl, etc. should not be taken as representative of everything we're going to encounter in Norgan.
THE FALLEN DRAGON ISN'T THE ONLY MAJOR THREAT
Famitsu also confirms that the Fallen Dragon is central to the story, but is not the only major presence of that magnitude.
Kinoshita indicates there is another opponent/presence important both narratively and in terms of difficulty.
Who or what that is remains unknown.
NORGAN PROGRESSION IS ABOUT SPOILS, NOT JUST LEVELING
This was another interesting point from Famitsu.
Norgan isn't primarily designed around simply continuing to raise our character's base level. The assumption is that experienced characters already possess considerable underlying strength.
Instead, progression revolves around collecting Spoils, appraising them, choosing equipment appropriate to your build, and strengthening both yourself and your party.
Kinoshita describes the intended loop as exploring Norgan, gathering Spoils naturally during those adventures, returning to have them appraised, improving your equipment, and then heading back out.
So while there is a hack-and-slash/loot element, they don't want the experience to become simply repeating the same instanced dungeon over and over again.
PLAYER FEEDBACK HAS DIRECTLY INFLUENCED DEVELOPMENT
Both interviews talk quite a bit about this.
The developers say one of their major goals has been to increase the number of choices available to players without abandoning DD2's original concept of overcoming adversity and experiencing a sense of accomplishment.
Hirabayashi makes an interesting distinction regarding some of DD2's deliberately demanding systems. He says that inconvenience itself was never intended to be the point. The goal was the sense of accomplishment that comes from overcoming difficulties.
After release, they recognized that different players prefer different ways of reaching that goal.
Rather than simply removing DD2's original design philosophy, their approach has therefore been to provide more ways for players to choose how they want to experience it.
Famitsu also says they categorized player feedback and compared Japanese and overseas responses. Interestingly, Hirabayashi says the priorities of Japanese and overseas players were almost complete opposites in some categories.
Hard Mode itself was one of the features they repeatedly saw players requesting.
SIX SKILLS
V-Jump also discusses why the skill slots were increased from four to six.
Kinoshita says there were many complaints that four slots weren't enough when vocations have roughly 9โ10 custom skills available.
He considers intuitive controls particularly important in an action game, and they determined that six slots provided the best balance between additional choice and keeping the controls manageable.
Famitsu specifically points out how much this benefits Warfarer, since Rearmament previously occupied one of only four available slots.
WHAT BOTH INTERVIEWS SEEM TO BE SAYING
The two interviews complement each other rather well.
Famitsu gives us the larger design philosophy: Norgan is only beginning with what we're seeing in the demos, progression revolves heavily around Spoils and exploration, there are greater threats we haven't seen, and Capcom has been systematically evaluating player feedback.
V-Jump gives us the detailed Hard Mode information: who it is intended for, how difficulty progresses, how Arisen level factors into the recommendation, switching difficulties, and the XP/drop changes.
And perhaps the biggest takeaway for those of us with very high-level characters:
Normal Norgan and Hard Mode Norgan are not being designed for exactly the same player.
If your character is already approaching their stat caps and you want Norgan to remain challenging, Kinoshita is specifically pointing those players toward Hard Mode.

V-Jump โ August 29, 2026
EDIT โ Additional Inven Interview
Another interview with Kinoshita and Hirabayashi was brought to my attention after I posted this. It adds a few useful details:
- Normal โ Hard is clarified: If you reach Norgan on Normal and decide it isn't challenging enough, you can save, return to the title screen, switch to Hard Mode, and continue. Hard โ Normal still cannot simply be toggled back.
- Hard Mode changes more than enemy stats. Enemy placement, AI/decision-making and behavior patterns are also adjusted, with resource and curative management becoming more important.
- Pawn AI: Kinoshita gives a surprisingly specific example. The chance of a nearby Pawn successfully catching a falling Arisen has been increased from roughly 60% to 85%.
- The 12 Forgotten Trials dungeons have different strategic concepts, and Kinoshita says that after experiencing all of them, players should better understand their significance to Norgan's lore.
- The appraisal system is intended to provide another avenue of progression beyond simply gaining levels. Randomization can affect an item's parameters as well as its unique abilities and how many it receives.
So this third interview largely supports what we learned from Famitsu and V-Jump while filling in a few additional details.

๐ฆ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐น๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป New formless faint, Nerf... Or buff!
I know I know it comes out in a few hours I just need to be patient but I'm so excited!!
So to hype myself up I was rereading the patch notes and I remember everybody saying that formless faint was being nerfed.
But upon reading it it sounds like it might actually be a buff.
So to my understanding if you activate the new formless faint and then you just no brain run around and ultra instincts Dodge everything it will be a complete Nerf.
But they're adding some sort of new mechanic where you still Auto Dodge but if you press the vocation Dodge button with good timing when you would be struck that not only will you get the auto Dodge but it will temporarily halt or stop the stamina drain for an unspecified amount of time maybe it's only a second maybe it's like 3 seconds I don't know yet.
But if you press the Dodge button with perfect timing not only will you dodge the attack and halt the stamina drain effect but on top of this you will gain a buff for an unspecified amount of time where all of your other skills will cost less stamina but I don't know how much less ๐
But assuming it's a significant amount say 25% or 50% less this could be huge.
On top of all of this it does immediately make me wonder the big important question.
Can I perfect Dodge the self-inflicted damage from blades of the pyre?
I assume yes because those two skills are clearly meant to be used together and formless faint already dodges the explosion so my brain tells me logically I should be able to press the Dodge button and gain all of these cool benefits from my own two skills working in conjunction!
Which if that's how it ends up working a couple hours from now... Dude that's so f****** sick!!!
Anyways y'all need to light me up in the comments and let me know if I'm going crazy or not.

๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ I love the theatrum mundi aspect of DD2 lore Spoiler
Itโs Latin for "the theater of the worldโ. Medieval European theologians loved the idea of human life being a stage and god is the director and the angels help with the production. Angels are literally moving the sun and moon etc and everyone is society has their role to play from a king to a lowly peasant. DD games are set in like a fantasy medieval world where they take the concept literally. For us modern audience this all sounds hellish which sets the tone for the game .
You have the kingdom of Vermund which supports this cycle but internally the government is also fighting it. The Arisen is not just the ruler but also spiritual leader and commands the pawns which are sort of immortal angels that protect the worldโฆ You see pawns from other worlds wandering and fighting other monsters. I love the contrast of Battahl empire. The people of Battahl have their own specific believes. Idk too much about their religion which is a shame, maybe theyโre descendants of Rothias who was the first ruler of Vermund and the arisen. Interesting how the empire of Battahl funds and supports Phaesus who is trying to undo the cycle. The empress is also worried about him in the end game which means she supported him directly. I initially thought he tried to assassinate her but I digressโฆ
I really loved the ending of the game and the unmoored world as a concept. I hope they develop this lore for the expansion. Even tho I really love this concept in a video game some of the quest writing is clumsy and confusing. Also nobody except the pathfinder is mad at you even tho you did not fulfill your role as the arisen and fly on the dragons back and rule. I thought captain grant who seems like a religious fanatic would be livid.
I guess the point of the game is to have fun and fight monsters but the lore is interesting and also explains the game mechanics which is very immersive. I also love the elder scrolls concept of the godhead but I digress. If anyone knows any more lore about this game pls share cause this is my first playthrough.

๐๐ถ๐๐ฐ๐๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป Going to be buying DD1 Dark Arisen version this weekend. Already hyped to start playing it after watching a few videos.
I recently made a post asking for people's recommendations on games with cool dragons in it. And a lot of people recommend Dragons Dogma 1 and 2.
I've watched a bunch of videos reviewing both games and I figured it would be best start with Dragons Dogma 1, especially since there is a major DLC expansion for 2 coming in a few months. I'll play DD 1, and be done in time to play DD 2 with the new update.
I watched a video ranking all the vocations in Dragons Dogma 1. And they all seem so cool I can barely decide! I watched some videos about how best to enjoy the early hours of the game, since there is very little direction and puts a lot of new players off.
This is my idea for what class me and my pawn are going to pick. Although I know we can change it up midway through the game.
Me: A Magic Archer. Since its widely considered the strongest in the game, and I am and BAD at videogames. But that's not the only reason. Magic Archer seems really fun and the flashy explosions are cool. Doing both physical and magic damage seems like a very useful capability. Its not just staying a mile away and shooting explosions, Magic Archer also gets daggers and some good melee and movement so I can enjoy climbing monsters and stabbing them in the face. Auto-aim is good since I am absolutely garbage at aiming.
Magic Archer seems like one of the most diverse vocations so I can enjoy a little bit of everything when it comes to fighting. And before I get to the main city, my starting vocation will be the Strider, since MA seems like basically Strider with magic. And that makes sense roleplay wise too, that I learned more skills as I'm starting my adventure.
My Pawn: At first I really wanted my pawn to be a Mystic Knight, but realized a minute ago that pawns are not allowed to be the cool duo vocations... So I suppose I'll pick Warrior for my pawn, and they'll be a Fighter until that option opens up to me.
Big tanky aggressive guy to help keep the pressure off me. And being my custom pawn, I want him in the middle of battle so I can actually see him more often, rather than him being across the room. I think pairing a heavy tank brawler with me as an MA should make my team fairly well balanced no matter what I choose for my 2 rented pawns, so I'll be mostly free to pick any rented pawns I'd like.

I don't know if this was common knowledge, but I realised that when your pawn (or a pawn) has dragon's plague, when you tell them to wait and you walk off, the pawns without DP will run off and surround or face off against the pawn with DP, as if they're keeping an eye on them. Pretty cool mechanic.
(Yes, I gave my pawn DP because I wanted to see the benefits of it after the August/September update and how hard it is to get it these days. If it ends up being good, she's gonna keep it for a while)

๐๐ถ๐๐ฐ๐๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป [PS5 inquery] level 1 warriors and sorcerer pawns
I'm on PS5 so i don't have access to mods and neither do other people who have created what I'm inquiring about.
I want to "build" a level 1 warrior pawn on console. And then have their pawn quest to be onyx. I know how to do the latter. I don't know how to do the former.
I know I'll need the dcp rings probably. And I've theorized how to do it, but I only get one shot essentially. So I was wanting to ask if anyone else has done this (without mods). What was your method and what's the best way to get it right the first time?
