Here we go, folks. The Dungeon Crawler Carl television series has been officially greenlit at Peacock.

I’m happy to announce that our friends at Peacock have officially greenlit the Dungeon Crawler Carl television series!  Me, Chris Yost, and Seth MacFarlane and his team at Fuzzy Door are all really excited to get to work. In the coming weeks I'll have more details, and if you're going to SDCC be sure to catch me and Chris on our DCC panel, but in the meantime I wanted to thank you, the fans, for helping make this happen.

(/end official statement)
And here we are. We are greenlit. The series has been ordered. It's actually happening. I have NO more info to give right now, but in the coming days I suspect there will be a firehose of information coming down the pipeline. This has been a multi-year process just to get to this point, and we have cleared every single hurdle to get here because of YOU GUYS. So thank you.

Notice from the Syndicate We are not talking current event politics here, and every deliberately political post will be deleted. Repeat violators will be banned. This is why. Message from Matt

We are not talking current event politics here, and every deliberately political post will be deleted. Repeat violators will be banned. This is why.

First off, any mod who takes down these posts are doing it at *my\* direction, so do not throw any ire in them. They are all volunteers, most of whom I suspect agree with the vast majority here politically. I am currently in super crunch mode, working 15 hour days because I need to finish DCC 8 by January 31st as our world burns, and I am not quite done yet. Otherwise I would have attempted to nip this earlier and a little more eloquently. So instead I’m just going to post directly and bluntly.

Yes, Dungeon Crawler Carl is highly political. It is a major theme of the books, and frankly, as soon as Operation Bounce House comes out, I suspect it’s going to be even more painfully obvious where I personally stand on a whole bunch of subjects.

If you don’t see or understand that, then I suspect you’re probably the type of person I want to read these books the most.

If you do understand it, you turning this subreddit into one of the literally thousands of politically active shitshows already here on Reddit are actively deterring me from accomplishing my goal.

Every war, every social movement has multiple battlefields, and not every battlefield has to be the front line. I want people with different points of view to enjoy these books at face value. If I then manage to drill through their thick skulls and make them think about the broader themes and maybe grow an empathetic spark, all the better.

Will it work? Probably not for 99% of them. But that number will be 100% if they have nowhere to peacefully discuss with other fans their opinions on the books. Any firebrand discussion about the current hot topic is going to evoke a kneejerk reaction and scare away the people we want to talk to the most.

I suggest and encourage you to start your own subreddit if you want talk about the political and human rights themes of the books in relation to current events. I personally love seeing all the DCC-themed protest signs. I encourage you all to continue to speak out and let the world know that we will not kneel to tyranny.

But if you can’t/won’t/don’t understand that these are my wishes for this particular corner of the internet, I’m afraid we’re going to have a problem. My mind is not changing. No hard feelings. But this is my kitchen. Let me cook what I want.

Inspired by Norman Rockwells illustration "The Tattoo Artist" in 1944. I struggled a long time trying to find a good americana reference for Signet, that was tasteful and slightly *modest* pose and was very intimidated at having to curve a bunch of tattoos around muscles- but Rockwell's piece just seemed to click.
I cannot be held responsible for any broken fingers.

Funny coincidence about Samantha’s name…

This doesn’t mean anything, just something I thought about. Considering Matt’s love of pop culture it might be something but probably not…

Samantha is the name of the “sex-crazed” one on Sex and the City. She’s played by Kim Cattrall. Kim Cattrall also starred in the movie Mannequin, which is about a mannequin that comes to life.

See, I told you it didn’t mean anything. Thank you for allowing me to waste your time.

Book 8: A Parade of Horribles Maybe I'm on an island here...

Maybe it's just me, but to me, Parade of Horribles felt by and far as the weakest book in the series. I'm assuming this was the penultimate to the penultimate, and Matt was just setting a bunch of stuff up. But yeah, personally, it felt like I was just getting through it, where the rest of the series I just couldn't put down. Does anyone else feel like this?

EDIT: Floor 11 was pretty interesting and I really enjoyed it. But 10 felt so rough and honestly kind of boring...

EDIT 2: I am now VERY well-acquainted with the term "ante-penultimate", so thanks everyone. Please excuse my ignorance.

Book 8: A Parade of Horribles Unexpected callback to one of my favorite (sad) side character stories.

Upvotes

After the absolute chaos of the 11th floor as everyone is recovering Carl reaches down to pick up a dead Horrible’s masks.

“Gershwin Banks, CEO Dictum Waystation Controls Ltd.” JUSTICE!!

That’s the company that set up the Naga (edit: MANTID!!) crawler (Evelyn) they sponsored to die at the top of the tower as an advertisement. And as she succumbed to the inevitable ruin and her impending death the ad to bash their competitor played out.

“There is no shortcut to safety! Never Trust Gordon Waystation Outfitters”

Which I very much want to make into a T-shirt.

We parked at the same time and as I was getting out of my car and looking around, I saw her license plate. I snapped my attention back and tried not to be weird, lol. She said it's not the first time someone spoke to her about her plates!

Book 5: Butcher’s Masquerade I was not prepared for that Spoiler

Hi all,

First time poster, long term listener.

I’ve been dunked heavily into the DCC books and absolutely love them. This book was hard for me, I struggled to keep understanding what battles were going on, the plans, and I think my brain just kept switching off and I had to go back constantly.

Anyway, I got to the final few chapters and it hit me hard on a walk with my dog today. It wasn’t the singing, it wasn’t the amazing voice acting Jeff Hayes, it was the part with Tina just wanting her mum (mom) back. I don’t know why this middle aged man welled up, but I did.

Dammit Matt, I was here for the comedy, not the tears.

Book 5: Butcher’s Masquerade Names Czech out Spoiler

Funny how it had been right in my face, and I didn't connect the dots. Sorry if this was discussed in the past.

The name of the hunter Zabit means "to kill" in Czech.

The name "Vrah" means "murderer".

And I speak Czech. Shame on me!

I think this is because I'm an audiobook boy, and the way those names are pronounced makes them sound like those retro-sci-fi names authors usually give to aliens, so it never entered my mind even after I've seen them written for a while.

40 this year and my wife wants to celebrate all month. She started me out with this gem! I’m sure the creator of this awesome mug has to be on here somewhere. I took a pottery class this year and have a much deeper appreciation for what went into this mug. Love it so much!

"DON'T GASLIGHT ME, JESUS"

I swap between audiobooks and reading but the narration is so good I find myself regularly bursting out laughing. No one else I know has read this far into the series. I just needed others who understood.

I'm a published novelist and these are 7 things Matt Dinniman does brilliantly that makes DCC such addictive reading:

Hi all! I'm a novelist myself and got my MFA in creative writing and have been having a really fun time analyzing DCC and what Matt does so well. I worked hard on a short little essay about 7 things I think he does brilliantly in this series that make the books such bingeable reading. Not everyone in my own circle knows or reads the series so I hope its ok to share with the people that get it.

Also HI ZEV.

Book 3: Anarchist’s Cookbook I finished book three!

This was awesome! Best book out of the series by far! I can’t wait to get my hands on book four tomorrow after going to the farmer’s market.

>!Okay, love that Katia is now on our team, Hekla deserved her end after that bullshit. Also something bigger is brewing with the Borant Corporation and the factions outside of the game. I have a weird feeling Zev is going to come back almost robotic after her “reeducation.”!<

I’m still just in the “wow” feeling after completing this book. I can’t express how much I really loved reading it!

Also I’m going to rank these books as I read them from now on haha 😆.

1). The Dungeon Anarchist Cookbook- 5⭐️
2). Dungeon Crawler Carl- 4⭐️
3). Carl’s Doomsday Scenario- 4⭐️

NEW ACHIEVEMENT!

Fully prepared for light drizzle. You've used an everyday household item to cross the treacherous waters of a crawl that has, at last count, killed 99.7% of your species. The umbrella is not armor. The umbrella was never armor. It previously belonged to a man on the third floor who also believed it was armor. Your fellow crawlers are wearing enchanted plate forged by the gods of six dead worlds. You are wearing shorts. The viewers adore you the way one adores a raccoon in a storm drain: with real affection and no expectation of survival.

Reward: You’ve received a Bronze Adventurer Box! It contains a second umbrella. Do not open it during combat.
