I am really worried about Mordecai. I feel like he is going to become an antagonist soon.

Here are the dots connecting the red conspiracy theory string:

• We never got a good answer from Mordecai why he was pissed to be a manager.
• He was left alone to "spin his thumbs" for almost a week on the second floor.
• The big reveal Second floor Miss Quill bringing back her dead husband, Remx.
• Mordecai, stopped getting black out drunk.
• He is constantly working at his potions table but doesn't have any big reveal moments. Sure he comes out and presents the party with a potion they need for the problem they are having at that moment, but not a super powerful all around potion to use in general. ( I could be wrong: but I don't recall too many moments where Mordecai behaves like Agent Q)
• In Book 6 Mordecai, tries to hide orphans in his room. The reason for sneaking around was never really satisfactory for me because Carl would sacrifice himself 100 times over if there is a chance to save NPC kids.

All of this leads me to believe Mordecai is working on resurecting his dead brother. To power the spell he is planning on sacrificing the changeling orphans with compression sickness in order to power that spell.

I love this Character and I can totally see the AI, mudskippers and or Borant creating a situation to make this happen.

Y'all are nerds, populating a Reddit devoted to some book series. But, I need to know how y'all deal with something.

I've just finished (all audiobook), book 8. Fine done, burned through them all while commuting on the train this summer, don't judge me!

Obviously, I immediately (don't judge me!) found that I was bored, so I wandered through my Audible account, and found that my wife had purchased He Who Fights Monsters. Sure, it was a title I have seen mentioned, great! Download it, start listening, and basically fell asleep during the first 30 minutes.

So...HOW do you go from Book 8 chaos to "I awoke in a hedge maze, level zero, fighting off tiny lizards"???

HOW??? IT'S SO BORING!!!

Just saw this and thought it was really random and cool.

I'm very interested in reading the extra chapters in each book. I've looked into my local library, and there are currently 209 holds on book 1, 49 holds on book 2, and so forth, so there's no way for me to make sure I can get them anywhere near each other to read them in order and in a timely manor.

Everything I've seen suggested here, though, ends with people being told to listen to someone read out the chapters. That doesn't work for me. I can't focus properly on podcasts or audiobooks. I have to be able to see something to really get it. I'd like to be able to read the chapters online if possible, because I don't have the money or shelf space for that many physical books, especially when I already have the ebooks.

Do you think Carl will eventually find love in the doungen?

Maybe it's just me, but to me, Parade of Horribles felt by and far as the weakest book in the series. I'm assuming this was the penultimate to the penultimate, and Matt was just setting a bunch of stuff up. But yeah, personally, it felt like I was just getting through it, where the rest of the series I just couldn't put down. Does anyone else feel like this?

EDIT: Floor 11 was pretty interesting and I really enjoyed it. But 10 felt so rough and honestly kind of boring...

I know they’re supposed to be fantastic and Jeff Hays does a brilliant job. But dammit all I hear is Puddy from Seinfeld every time he voices Carl. And having already read the series I just can’t jive that voice with what is already in my head for Carl.

Idk if it is just me but i really dislike the voice of Vernon the dwarf. Just wanted to get it out. He Just sounds wrong to me and kinda like he's ai.

ETA: bummer photo got deleted. Feels like I'm arguing with the AI proclaiming it's not a spoiler! But yeah, in the Eye of the Bedlam Bride there's an exchange in which Carl tells Donut they shouldn't talk about politics and I found that very amusing.

Got to this and let out an audible squeal of amusement. It's even in the books!

I'm curious how people pronounce a lot of these names. I know for some, they are common names in other countries with standard pronunciations, but given that I don't hear them often, I kind of just go with what's in my head canon. Syllables in all caps are where I place the emphasis. It's too the point where I've spent seven books pronouncing them this way and I'm not going to change, but I wonder what other alternate pronunciations are out there!

After listening to all 8 books several times, I'm pretty sure the real identity of Hamed, the night worm is actually Orrin (sp?) I have a couple reasons for thinking so, if anyone would like to discuss. To be fair I don't know if this is a popular/extant theory.

How it works: It grants a positive benefit or temporary increase in power.Visibility: Most buffs show a timer over the affected character's head that anyone in the game can see.

Examples: Special item bonuses, daily bed upgrades providing stat boosts, or class-based spells like temporary strength or damage reduction.

The opposite: A debuff, which lowers stats or causes negative status conditions.

Hi all! I'm a novelist myself and got my MFA in creative writing and have been having a really fun time analyzing DCC and what Matt does so well. I worked hard on a short little essay about 7 things I think he does brilliantly in this series that make the books such bingeable reading. Not everyone in my own circle knows or reads the series so I hope its ok to share with the people that get it.

Okay so I am on book 5 now and I am seriously starting to dislike imani' character, every time she speaks it's as if she thinks Carl owes her something, it happened in the previous floor with Chris, and twice now on this floor, first when he was deciding to descend early due to donut injured by Ferdinand and now in the ball area

It's me again, Crawlers! I really appreciated the feedback on my first post, so I've made some updates to the costume idea.

TLDR: I'm bad at costumes and need help. Hot weather, ren fair, I love Donut. I will be wearing the wooden and obsidian bracelets, but couldn't get them in the pic.
