Is it worth to appeal? I’m honestly at my last straw and have been so stressed and overwhelmed going back and forth with my dr only to receive this. I’ve heard they take 2-6 months. :| What’s more upsetting is that I never got any notif about having to provide all of this info when filling out the application online.

I'm taking my sick days first (didn't know you didn't have to until recently) and then I was going to take PFL, but I didn't know there was a 41 day provisional period. I'm more than halfway there, and I believe my sick time would go over the 41 days (depending if its business days or just regular days?). Now my questions are:

What should I do when I apply for PFL? Should I put the first day I was out and started getting paid via sick time and apply now? or should I wait until the last day of my sick day coverage to start applying? What if my LoA, since I'm taking it in one shot (3 months straight), expires but I will not be able to use all 8 weeks of PFL, do I just loose this benefit? (Since my sick days are probably more than half of the 3 months of LoA?

Also, if anyone knows how I can get through, I'm getting pretty desperate; not sure what I can do to get a hold of someone?

Location - California
I worked for a small manufacturer from March 2022 until June 2025 running their day to day operations. Salary, set schedule, their building, their equipment. But the owner never actually put me on payroll. No withholding, no pay stubs, no W2. He gave me a 1099 in 2022 and then just nothing for 2023, 2024 and 2025 while still paying me the same way the whole time. It was always going to get fixed "soon," plus there was talk of me getting a share of the company. I stuck around because I liked the work and thought the place had potential.
I left in June 2025 after he got over 4 months behind on payroll. He still owes me and has been slowly paying it back since.
Then in October I got hit by a car. My work has me on my feet 80-90% of the day so that pretty much ended any chance of job hunting or picking up freelance work. Had to get my ankle fused in February and I've had complications with the healing ever since.
In March I asked him for a W2 for 2025. He said he'd look into it. Then said I was actually an independent contractor. Then said he'd review it again. Then nothing. So I filed my taxes with a 4852 and opened a wage claim with the CA Labor Commissioner.
I figured once the 4852 was in I could finally file for disability. Did that, and it came back denied in June for insufficient earnings, 0.00 in all four quarters of my base period. Which honestly makes sense since he never reported a dime to EDD.
Right now I'm putting together a request for recomputation with proof of about 28k that actually got paid to me during that base period, and filing a DE 230 for a worker classification assessment. Legal Aid at Work has me scheduled but not for another two weeks, and I'm ripping through what's left of my savings trying to get by. No income since February.
Evidence wise I'm not empty handed. I've got texts where he calls my pay salary and payroll, bank transfers, pictures of company checks, published articles he wrote where he says I work for him, and every venmo and paypal transfer with screenshots and statements.
What I'm trying to figure out is whether there's a real path to getting DI when the employer never withheld SDI, or if the misclassification angle is a dead end and I should stop pouring time into it. Also whether there's anything I should be doing differently before or after I submit the recomputation, and if anything moves faster than waiting years on the labor board.
Happy to hear it if the answer is that this isn't going to work. I'd rather know.

My doctor submitted Part B electronically. However, it does not show up on my EDD portal. There is no doctors name listed and it still says I need my medical certification. It has been 8 days since the doctor said they submitted it. Should it show up immediately or should I wait a few more days?

Need help with figuring this out, I’m trying to submit this form but I keep getting an error message, I’ve only received one payment, if I’m correct I should be getting my 2 week payment tomorrow but I have been seeing that no payment get sent if this form isn’t completed and that’s where my problem begins

Trying to apply for SDI. I try to log in Nothing will work. I’m trying to file the SDI from EDD to get the reference number for my doctor. Won’t let me log in, I press forgot password and it emails me a link. I open the link to reset it, says my info doesn’t match and to call a number. I call and am told that they Ive reached the maximum calls for the day again. I try a few more number, after an hour I get an actual human, I give her all my info she asks, and still says my info doesn’t match what they have in the system BUT she can’t tell me what doesn’t match so she can’t help me. I have no clue what Info they have that needs to be changed cause I am me 😂 so I can’t log in, I can’t make a claim and they can’t help me log in or tell me much of anything. Most she said was go to an office in person and file a claim…. So frustrating.

Update:
I was able to finally get on after combing through countless emails. But after logging on, clicking SDI and verifying my info is correct, I press the next button to get an error E324 code. Guess I’ll go in person tomorrow

I got laid off again (work in an industry heavily impacted by Ai) and I’m ready to jump on a career that has better chances of being stable. I already reached out before the 16 weeks are up and I will be enrolling in courses towards a nursing degree while also going through a CNA program.

Would I qualify? I’m paying it with the help from my parents.

Any insight on why I keep getting an error when I try and log in? Trying to submit a claim to get a reference number for my doctor. I’ve called twice and zero help, they just keep directing me to other people.

I’m a little confused and wondering if anyone else has experienced this. On the webpage, it shows that my payment was approved on 9/1/26, but under Claim Status, it says “Certification Needed.” Does anyone know if that certification is related to the payment that was already approved, or is it for the next payment period? Any insight from someone who has seen this before would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

My phone interview to process my claim is scheduled for Monday. But all state government offices will probably be closed and I confirmed the EDD and customer service lines will be closed. Is this an error? Will I get a call? I'm worried I'll be reschedule and have to wait another two whole weeks until I can get an appointment. What a rookie mistake not o have their scheduling system avoid holidays.

Edit: checked the portal and they rescheduled me already for the 8th. Phew, didn’t want a delay so I don’t get a credit hit from bills. Thanks for the responses

I was furloughed by my job on April 3 (which meant I was no longer working or paid, but had health insurance, and there was a tiny chance we would be brought back if the company was doing better). I applied immediately for employment, immediately was approved, certified every two weeks etc.

Then, I had to move, and I shared with EDD my new address. It was only 10 minutes from my original address, but something about me changing my address triggered something in their system. They immediately wanted numerous types of documentation to prove that I really lived in this building. I was essentially living in the basement of a woman’s home, so I had no utility bills to speak of, I received all my phone bills online, and all I had that they would accept from was my lease, so I uploaded that.

Not only did they reject my new claim, they have not paid me any benefits since mid June and are now demanding I repay the $3600 Ive received.

It’s been an absolute nightmare. I appealed and now have a hearing on Thursday with a judge.

My question: is there anything I can do to strengthen my case? I was considering reaching out to my landlady to ask her to sign an affidavit saying that I was indeed living in her building. It seems like that’s the sticking point here that they think I was being fraudulent? I’m just at a loss for how to prove that I legitimately moved when my new lease did not seem to be enough for them in the first place.

Has anyone ever had a change of address problem like this? Honestly, I was just trying to be compliant and follow the rules, and it ended up totally screwing me over.

Any advice or ideas folks herw might have would be so welcome, I’m very nervous for this hearing on Thursday.

Been waiting 3 weeks today is this finally it?

And like is ongoing treatment necessary like what does EDD like or need to see?

It’s been two weeks since my doctor submitted his certification. My portal has been saying “certification needed” but there’s no available forms and I haven’t even received a single payment yet. I used the help chat to check the status and it says “your payment was approved but we need more information to send it. We sent a notice by mail that you must complete”

What could be causing this? I haven’t gotten anything in the mail and my leave started 8/10 so I’m getting frustrated… I’m a teacher, I don’t have a complicated job situation. Any ideas?

I just received my last SDI payment and filled out an application for PFL. Do I need to have my dr submit a supplementary certificate if I’m not planning to extend SDI? TIA!

Has anyone recently had to fill out Form DE 2580G after returning to work part time while still receiving SDI?

I recently returned to work part time and was sent the DE 2580G to report my hours/earnings. I’m trying to get an idea of what the payment timeline looks like once the form is submitted.

For anyone who has gone through this...

• How soon after submitting the DE 2580G did EDD process your payment?
• Did you get paid the next day, within a few days, or did it take longer?
• Did your claim/payment status update online before you received the payment?
• Did EDD have to manually review the form before issuing your benefits?
• Once you started submitting these forms, how long did subsequent payments usually take?

I know everyone’s claim can be different, but I’d really appreciate hearing about recent experiences from anyone who continued receiving partial SDI while working part time.

I know 4weeks before labor

and 6 weeks after labor (then go to PFL 8 weeks)

but I heard OB can extend SDI for quite some time.

Hey everyone, looking for some advice or reassurance from anyone who has dealt with this.

I originally opened my unemployment claim in January 2026 ($300 WBA) but got disqualified for that claim in February. I went back to work doing a temp assignment through Randstad. I was making $20.50/hr and earned around $2,600 total before the assignment ended due to a lack of work.
I went online to reopen my existing active claim and listed Randstad as my most recent employer. After certifying and marking everything correct and that I’m looking and able to work my portal status still flipped to "Disqualified."

A few details on my situation:
I did not get fired for misconduct, and I didn't quit — it was strictly an assignment end / lack of work.
I haven't been scheduled for a phone determination interview, and there are no interview notices on my dashboard.
I earned $2,600 gross since opening my claim in January (well above the $1,300 minimum required for Section 1277 lag-period rules). 

Do you guys think it could possibly be from the old claim that I had with the job I quit and got disqualified for?
This is a new claim, but will I be able to get benefits possibly?
I’m mainly seeking reassurance, I haven’t gotten any notices or any mail other than just saying I applied. Thanks for any insight

When I call the SDI it say payment has been approved just needed more information also got a letter in the mail to send or upload a copy of the birth certificate. I uploaded a copy of my son’s Birth certificate on to the browsers twice now. What am I missing.

When is the best time to call EDD, I know 8am but sometimes when I call I can’t get through to them due to high call volume. Is there another time that is good just in case I can’t get through to them on Monday at 8am.

My disability claim was approved with the following timeline:

Claim effective date: 07/21/2026

Initial return-to-work date: 08/17/2026 (certified by my CA-based PCP)

Claim approved on: 08/24/2026

Today: Haven't received any payments yet - activity record just shows the 7-day waiting period.

My treating doctor wants to extend through: 10/10/2026

Here's my problem: my PCP went on long leave, and I'm now being treated by a doctor overseas. He's willing to certify the extension, but:

I haven't received any payments yet, so the DE 2525XX hasn't been mailed to me.

Once I get the DE 2525XX, I have to physically mail it to my doctor in India

He fills it out in black ink, signs it, and couriers the original back

International shipping both ways takes 5-7 days minimum.

I'm worried the whole process will take longer than the deadline EDD gives to return the DE 2525XX. Also my overseas doctor already has a DE 2501 Part B form - can he just submit that instead to extend the claim, or does EDD strictly require the DE 2525XX for extensions? Can I create a new claim instead of extending the current case since in that case my doctor can fill out DE2501XXX form that he already has?

Has anyone been in a similar situation with an overseas doctor?

If I had a baby, received sdi then went on paid family leave then back to sdi. Do I still have to wait the one week waiting period? Is it an easy process?

So I received Edd forms asking if I want to start my PFL claim starting when my SDI ends but I had already filled that out online. Should I still mail it ? I’m so confused . And online it says they received my claim request to wait at least 14 days. to not submit a duplicate that it may take longer .

I had an unemployment claim approved- worked at a job for 5yrs and the contract ended. I was randomly selected to do a re-employment assessment online next week. I was just offered some babysitting hours so I cannot attend the webinar (it's 2hrs long). I called EDD this morning to try to reschedule it, and the rep said "oh, so you're self-employed? that changes everything." I told her I am not self-employed, this is just some extra work to help while looking for FT employment, and that I am available to work immediately if offered a position. She flagged my account and said I had to complete an eligibility interview due to self-employment. I am so confused- am I not allowed to take on gigs (and report the wages) while I am on unemployment? Can I only take W-2 work? Perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned the babysitting hours, but it was a conflict with the Caljobs webinar, and I figured these people would be happy that I wasn't going to certify for a week where I earned money. I am so confused and annoyed!
