I had a great experience getting my hysto at OHSU yesterday and right now I’m recovering at home!

I chose to remove both ovaries. It was a difficult decision because I do want kids someday, but ultimately I decided being comfortable in my own body was more important to me than a slim chance of having biological children. So far I’m proud of my decision and I really do feel so much happier in my body.

I went in expecting something or other to trigger my dysphoria considering the nature of the surgery, but no. Everyone who helped me was extremely respectful of my gender identity and treated me with utmost care. It was very clear that everyone on the surgical team and all of my nurses had experience with trans patients. I felt NORMAL, and you don’t always get that as a trans person in medical settings. No one examined my genitals while I was conscious, I didn’t have to put my own legs in stirrups like I feared, and they even took the catheter out while I was still under. Literally nothing happened while I was awake that made me even the slightest bit uncomfortable. Reproductive dysphoria is the type that I struggle with the most and am the most sensitive about, so that’s saying something.

Additionally, I got to keep piercing retainers in my two HCH (genital) piercings. Shoutout Dr. Patil!

If I were to go back, there are only two things that could’ve made my experience better. I would ask for anxiety meds for the days leading up to the procedure (I forgot I could even do that,) and I would pack an overnight bag for my friends to hold on to. I almost had to stay the night because I was having difficulty peeing which I wasn’t prepared for, but I locked in and got to go home.

I struggle greatly with paranoid thoughts about pregnancy or I guess in this situation an ectopic one. I have had everything but my ovaries removed. My uterus, fallopean tubes, and cervix are all gone. Is pregnancy basically impossible? I want to stop worrying about it constantly. It’s been over 2 years now since my surgery. I kept my ovaries for hormonal balance stability.

Hey gang — I had my surgery 09/2024 and I have no regrets, albeit I struggle with some feelings post op.
I had a lot of my fatigue increase after surgery on and off, I know some symptoms I hav are comorbid due to my adhd/audhd and cptsd, which can cause things like mood swings/emotional dysregulation, brain fog, etc. FYI I kept my ovaries!! I stopped T months ago, and my t levels dropped in replacement of my estrogen. It was hard managing shots + my surgery recovery and I met my goals which is why I stopped, however I’m back on T (microdosing on gel) because gel is more manageable AND I get pms symptoms monthly so I wanted to help alleviate it. That and T did help my libido a lot.

I have vaginal atrophy I usually manage with E cream (inserted). But I paused it cuz it previously gave me an infection and caused a smell.. it helps w dryness ig. However my libido has dropped significantly recently to how it was when I was a teenager .. I can’t get off very much without feeling little to nothing— things have recently felt weaker and I’m anxious so I asked my doctor for T cream localized for genital area, but it’s $70 so I don’t wanna spend that if it won’t help the tissues.

My anxiety has felt higher as well, I’ll wake up anxy to the point I can’t relax. It’s effecting everything .. I’m honestly feeling like a cis woman w all this which fuckin sucks. Does anyone have any advice? My gyn (who did my surgery) doesn’t rly know abt trans healthcare unlike my pcp, which is why I primarily ask my pcp for help but idk what to do. The endocrinologist (who is trans competent.. so that sucks) wasn’t really helpful either so I haven’t gone back to her. Help pls :”)

I got a hysterectomy and some other pelvic/ gyno surgeries about 6 weeks ago. Because I had a perineal incision and some vaginal incisions near the opening, my gynecologist prescribed estrogen cream to use externally. My urogyn cleared me for internal stuff, including using the estrogen cream internally.

I have vaginal atrophy from testosterone (hence the e cream to help with healing), and have made myself bleed just from swabbing myself for BV tests and such.

When I went to use the internal applicator, I didn’t get very far in. Definitely not to the vaginal cuff, which my doctor said is about 3-4 inches in. At most, I made it like 2 inches in. I kept hitting stuff inside (I assume this is just normal anatomy, I had multiple prolapses repaired so I am not familiar with the landscape), and because I’ve made myself bleed with fucking soft swabs before, I didn’t want to use too much force on the applicator just to try getting it deeper. I did do some side to side wiggling of the physical applicator, and also got up and tried to change my position in case that helped.
I got the estrogen cream inside my vagina, just not very deep. I want to get it on the vaginal cuff to help with the healing, but don’t know how to safely achieve that. Good news is, no immediate bleeding at least.

Can someone explain how to use an internal vaginal applicator, what it should feel like, and when/ how to advance it in the vaginal canal without causing tissue damage? Thank you!!!

After surgery, is sex affected? Me and my partner are both trans men and I know this is possibly weird but I’m really stressed about it. 😅

Side sleeping was uncomfortable for me for over a month after top surgery - does that apply here too?

Did anyone sleep in a chair or on their back in bed?

I’m typically a side sleeper but would sleep on my back if I have to. But it’s really difficult for me to fall asleep like that.

How long after surgery did your abdominal skin didn't feel super tight. Other than that I feel pretty normal but I can't sleep cause it's uncomfortable to lay down due to it feeling like my incisions are gonna rip open. I'm 4.5 days post op.

Hey, I’m in the UK and had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy 3 weeks ago today.

I started bleeding a week ago, which I then scaled back my activities as I probably overdid it walking around too much. Saw a doctor and she said it’s normal but go to the hospital if it gets heavier.

3 weeks now it has died down, and again today walking (probably ten - fifteen min walk) I had a sudden gush of blood and smallish clot.

It’s gone back to spotting now but then I’ve forced myself to lie in bed since that happened.

I don’t think I’m overdoing anything, just essentially walking short walks. Most the day I’m sitting around or lying in bed, just going round the house. Are ten / fifteen minute walks out of question this early on? I don’t feel unwell. The most I have felt is some soreness when the bleeding happens. I’m finding this very frustrating. I’m due to go back to work in a couple of days (from home) but don’t know if that’s wise with the ongoing bleeding.

7 months on T. periods are gone but i want absolutely no possibility of ever dealing with them again. or being pregnant. i waited 3 months for my referral to be approved via lgbt center and it got approved yesterday through medi-cal. as soon as i got that update, i booked an appointment with the surgeon. just wondering how long after your consults did you guys gets scheduled for surgery?

hey folks I am having my surgery in a little over a month! I've had multiple surgeries over the years but this will be my first with robotic assistance, I am very anxious. I would love to hear about your experiences.

I’m currently only 4 days post op, having had surgery Monday evening. The first few days I felt great mentally, but today I’ve been low and incredibly sensitive all day, in a way I haven’t felt since I had periods. I had everything removed, including ovaries, so I can only assume it’s hormonal possibly.

I will get my T levels checked a month or two post op, but I’m concerned that I won’t be able to raise my dose if my levels are low. My haemoglobin is already a bit too high and I’m being refused treatment for it - I can’t donate blood, and they won’t do a venesection because it “isn’t recommended anymore”. The only treatment available is lowering my T, which is physically and emotionally a terrible idea, especially now I have no ovaries.

Will my hormones even out on their own? How long can I expect this to last, and when can I check my levels to get an accurate reading of my post op hormones? In the meantime how do I cope? My usual coping strategies are very physical and I can’t do any of them while I’m still healing

Hello, I am scheduled to get my hysterectomy done next summer, I am leaving my ovaries intact. I'm wondering if I have to freeze my eggs before I get the surgery or if it can wait...? I'm finding it difficult to get a straight answer.

And I noticed that in the span of 7 days I lost about 1.5 kg weight? Surely those organs don't weigh that much

Is less water weight? From the hormonal shift?

Or muscle loss from moving a bit less?

By looking at my body I feel like my hip/ lower back has a bit less fat? Idk it's strange, I will monitor it over the next weeks

Fyi I have a muscular body build with some additional belly/hip fat

Hey so I finally took the plunge and scheduled a consultation to get a hysterectomy. I went on r/childfree and found an OBGYN in my hospital and insurance system that had good reviews and based off her profile on the hospital website, she seems like a good fit for what I'm looking for! My consultation is on 8/27.

What should I expect?

What kind of questions might she ask me? I already know I never wanna carry a child. Ive been on T for a little over a year and my levels have been good for the past six months and I'm not planning on ever going off it. I also have PCOS so I know I have a pretty good case for getting it all removed based on that.

Should I be expecting some kind of exam or pap smear at this appointment? I think I'm already due for a paper smear anyway but I just wanna be sure...

My biggest concern is that she might try to steer me towards finding a less radical form of sterilization (tubes tied, leave the ovaries in, iud, etc). Im sure she'll do whatever to make it to where I can't have kids but I want it all out! Im planning on writing up a whole document/list with all the reasons I want a hysterectomy so I can make my case if I need to. (Lmao can you tell I'm neurodivergent?)

My last thing is that I'm still not sure if I want my cervix removed. I know I want the uterus, ovaries, and tubes out but I'm still going back and forth on this. Pap smears and vaginal exams don't bother me too much and I don't have any family history of cervical cancer. But I also heard that leaving the cervix can cause period-like bleeding for up to a year post op and I,,, don't like sound of that. If anyone can let me know what swayed them to keep or get rid of their cervix, or if they regret keeping or removing it for whatever reason, let me know!

I’ve just been given my hysto date for next month and I’m panicking I’m rushing but I don’t know if that’s me listening too much bs in relation to cisgender care.

I’m opting to have it all removed including my ovaries. I’ve been on T since 2019 and don’t plan to ever come off it if I can help it.

I’m panicking having a hysterectomy at the age of 26 will give me health consequences I’m not thinking of. At the moment I have no plans for bottom surgery so I’m doing this purely to avoid any future smears, the need for contraception long term. I basically just see no need to have those organs in me. When I think about them I feel weird but most days I can pretend it’s not there.

Are these worries normal? Is it a sign I should slow down and reconsider what I’m doing?

How have other people in their mid 20s recovered?

I have a referral from an NHS GIC for a total hysterectomy, bso, and vaginectomy. My local hospital have declined the referral on the basis they are unequipped to perform vaginectomy. This is completely reasonable, but I'm now having to look for a provider myself so I can go through Right To Choose. Is there anyone here who has had vaginectomy and can recommend surgeons in the UK I can contact? I'm not planning to have phallo or meta at any point in the future. Thank you!

I've been dealing with some urinary incontinence issues for abt 4yrs now (only now getting medical help) n I'm looking to get a bilateral salpingo oophorectomy, most likely lapriscopically but I was wondering if this could worsen my "condition".

Basically, does getting a full hysto have the possibility of affecting the bladder/use of bladder?

Has anyone had a hysto with Dr.Ley at the GCC in san francisco? How was ur recovery? What was the communication line like with ur surgical team post op?
