Falcom has updated their Recruitment Page; Two new composers joined the company
What the title says, tho none of them have their names listed like the old page did.

Highlights are the two new composers and a guy who worked on steam versions.

Sky SC 130 hours later and I finally finished Sky SC
Granted 15-20% of them are grinding and dying. But man, it was worth it. Looking forward for another 100 hours once the remake is released. Also, I put 2 devices since I did my playthrough 65% on my MSI Claw and 35% on my Retroid Pocket 6.

To The Future struck me last year during a really tough time in my life, and i haven't listened to it since i finished CS IV and a few days later i replayed it because its such a banger.
As i did some Grimoire pulls i mostly search for costumes until this popped as i was switching the Garten BGM. The first notes still hit me like a damn truck.

Trails series Which character do you guys think Kotobukiya will make a figure of next?
Me personally, I’m coping that Sara will be next. She is the only Original Class VII girl that didn’t have one yet. There is also Millium but she’s not a part of Millium’s Harem. Towa is another popular character I can see getting a figure. I’m also surprised Lloyd doesn’t have a figure yet. Estelle Rean and Van got one before he did. The only Crossbell reps are Tio and Rixia. I also put Daybreak Fie and Horizon Rean here considering Altina and Renne got multiple fgures from different arcs. What do you guys think.
I want Sara and Lloyd the most

Weird Ghargav Series find on Java
Found this while browsing through old Java games to play. I'm pretty sure this is The Legend of Heroes: Tears of Vermilion of the PSP version right? Is this a legit port to Java? Because I know back then many games make Java version of their games lol.

I didn't find any information online on how to get it. I just recall that the Neo Bracer outfit was part of the launch celebration and therefore time limited.

Trails series JP translation Mod Review for FC/SC/3rd No Spoilers
Hi, you can call me Skell/Ydraliel (reddit usename OwnCommunication9213 for whatever reason, i'm not a reddit guy).
I finished FC and SC patched, not 3rd yet but soon.
The reason I do this long post is that there no clear proof of modded completion anywhere, and there is help I want to give for SC.
IF ANY COMMENT ARE TO BE MADE, PLS TRY TO STAY SPOILESS, thank you :)
also if any soul read this maybe you could vote it up for visibility, this took me quite some time so if any mod want to strike it, pls lets negotiate.
note: on steamdb at "https://steamdb.info/app/251150/depots/" you can see the game has files tagged as "-Japanese- Trails in the Sky FC Japanese", so the traduced version seems to exist, but I believe is region locked due to publishing rights; Giving me an existential crisis on why I am doing this. Maybe one day they will release an internationnal ver.
Original Reddit mod post / Mod Download :

"EN" refers to non patched version of the game
"JP" refers to a properly patched version of the game
"FC" refers to Trails in the Sky FC
"SC" refers to Trails in the Sky SC
"3rd" refers to Trails in the Sky 3rd
0/ TLDR:
(I get it if you don't want to read but play, everything mandatory to know is here. Maybe also read 1/, maybe 2/ if you haven't played the game before)
- For both games, only install first batch of patch, don't use DT-10/30 ones they provokes heavy bugs during combat. The only things you will be missing is a very few translation tied to combat. Some text overlap can happen, for example in shop for owned item quantity, ennemy attack name display in fights and in enemy stats hud, but again is very minor inconvenience (just a single word at best).
- A double installation is almost mandatory (one in EN, the other JP patched), especially for SC. If you encounter a bug, 99% of the time the fix is to just boot the game in EN then do the thing, save and reload on JP. For that reason, do lots of saves and save with each steps of progression on main story.
- FC patched playability: 100%, can be done from start to end, not a single bug.
- SC patched playability: 75%, CAN BE DONE FROM START TO END, but is the main reason for this post as starting a certain point of the game, the playability will drop from 100% to "erf, it crash, I guess i'm going to see the cutscene in EN / redo the fight and watch the cutscene in EN", even if these crash/softlock due to patch are not that numerous (I don't have the real count, but about 10), and yes sometimes they can happen at a point where you really don't want them (I think I've got 2 end of acts I was forced to switch to EN). If you have to redo a fight because the following cutscene bug, I heavily encourage you to use "retry" function, especially if you play on hard mode.
- 3rd patched playability: soon-tm (looks good)
- Keep in mind its a mod, it "can" break. So if you play with it, be ready to tank a very few inconveniences.
1/ Notes on installation:
- On each game there is 2 archive patch file. The first one contain multiple patches (apply those), the second one only one and is named DT-10 (FC) / DT-30 (SC). You do not want DT-10/DT-30, as it bug/softlock fights. *cf bugs section
- Don't forget to add an empty lang_jpn.dll in dll folder for HUD translation.
- The games have an external option application.
- "High resolution text" do work for me, I would recommend them.
- I can't help you if you put the voices patch
- GOG and Steam version should be the same, GOG makes it easy to install 2 version, on Steam it's also easy but need a little bit of work.
- My test was fully played on Linux, but I tested all SC bugs on windows too so should be OS proof.
- I had a few yet big non game breaking texture bug during some cutscenes on windows (reminder I haven't done my playthrougth on windows, only tested bugs), maybe can be fixed on the setup.exe of the game. Maybe its my PC and you don't have to worry.
- On Double Installation:
For SC especially you'll probably need 2 version of the game at the same time, one in EN the other in JP.
GOG and Steam should be the same game version.
There is some Linux notes at the end, unrelated to double installation.
For GOG:
GOG is easier and better in every way, since you own the game installation file itself.
1/ Download the game installation files
2/ Install the game at a location
3/ Copy-paste it into a second game name "Trails in the Sky FC - JP"
Now you can patch the JP one, and then launch the one you want when you want. Note that as its offline installation, you wont have cloud backups.
For Steam:
1/ Download the game.
2/ in Steam, right click on the game in the list, select properties. Inside "Installed Files", select "Browse" and you will be sent to the gamefile location.
3/ Go into the superior folder which should be "common"
4/ Copy the "Trails in the Sky FC" folder as "Trails in the Sky FC - JP"
To understand, the one Steam will load will be "Trails in the Sky FC", and when you want to switch to the other language, rename the folder to "Trails in the Sky FC - EN" and "Trails in the Sky FC - JP" to "Trails in the Sky FC".
Now you have 2 option, launch the game from steam interface, or directly in the folder. From Steam app, you will need to rename the folder depending of the version you will use. The other way is from the games folders, it probably works without any modification, but i'm afraid of the cloud save function, so you probably want to to disable it in the steam game options.
!! note; just like the code under that, I haven't test installing twice the same game with Steam that way yet. I'll do it soon but I need this review out of my head for a bit.
(STEAM + Windows OPTIONAL - /!\EXPERIMENTAL, I haven't tested yet but idea is here. I will try it soon./!\)
If you want to launch from steam app AND you are not afraid of copy pasting and using some console code, I have here a solution to switch the game versions in a click:
1/ create a file (anywhere) called switch.cmd
2/ open it with any text editor (not direct click)
3/ copy this (it should be self explained enough):
#switch.cmd (filename)
#Backup savedata
#Not mandatory since both version use the same data, but to save you if you've messed up with your save and haven't done any manual save backup on you're PC
user = "xxUserNamexx"
cd C:\Users/$user/Saved Games
current_time=$(date +"%Y-%m-%d %H-%M-%S")
cp -a Falcom Falcom_$current_time
#Switch both game files, JP->EN or reverse. It just rename the one in use to "Trails in the Sky FC"+en/jp, and the one stored to "Trails in the Sky FC". (sc being the foldername used by steam)
#Depending on the game, the folder name will be either : "Trails in the Sky FC", "Trails in the Sky SC" or "Trails in the Sky the 3rd"
game = "Trails in the Sky FC"
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common
if [ -d "$SCjp"]; then
ren $game "$game - JP"
ren "$game - EN" $game
else
ren $game "$game - EN"
ren "$game - JP" $game
#Run the game thought Steam (remove # in front of the one you want to launch, add # in front of the others)
#FC
start steam://rungameid/251150
#SC
#start steam://rungameid/251290
#3rd
#start steam://rungameid/436670
4/ Replace in the code the value of "user" by your windows username (can be found at Users\ in folders), and the value of "game" by the one you want to play as its written in the line above in code.
5/ Add/remove # like its said in the 3rd part of the code depending the game you wanna play.
(6/) It assumes Steam is at its default location and the game saves on windows is indeed "Falcom" (can be verified by launching a game, and going into C:\Users/xxUserNamexx/Saved Games location. I do not own Steam version so that up to you)
(7/) If you don't want the backup savedata part of the program, just remove it from the file. It goes from "#Backup" line to before "#Switch" line
Now you can switch the game version between patched and non-patched in a click. (Windows may ask you password for the .bat launch)
For Linux users:
To install patches, open a console inside the game folder, then use first "sudo wine cmd" to emulate a Windows console, then apply patch by writing their full name (including .cmd)
You might not be able to launch the setup.exe app, if so you can access it in your savedata folder as Falcom/ED_SORA/ed6.win2.ini. There you can just set "HighResoText" and "HighResoAssets" to 1.
For Linux + GOG users:
Until gog publishes his linux installer, use Lutris and install both version at the same place (meaning both game are installed in the same windows file system), if not you will have to manually move your savedata between games (Like I've done).
2/ Few notes on the games:
(my knowledge is limited on that, there might be wrongs)
- There is a lot of npc dialogues, A LOT. And they are good written npcs. They basically change on the whole map each time you do a small progress on the main quest. If you want to read them all, you'll need time and progress main quest slowly.
- Voices (including battle ones that are opt-out in ingame option) are not from the original game, but from the ps vita port version, so you'r not really missing the original game.
- Hard mode is as also been added in the ps vita international port, so not original game but for the challenge I can recommend.
- If you choose hard difficulty on SC, yes, the prologue boss is a joke and not a bug, can recommend the "retry" function if you don't want to farm cookies or await a star alignment.
- If you've learn Japanese, or are doing so, know that its kind of kanji heavy, you will probably be reading your dictionary a lot at first, but if your survive the first game, you are pretty much geared for any jrpg i guess. Personally I'm just a guy who learned the language by reading and writing the content of a dictionary, as my first Japanese text rpg, It became quite easy a 10-20 hours in.
3/ Few note/theory on mod: (for tech people)
- I believe the mod is replacing the data files with the ones from the original JP version, that is an older one than the one we can buy.
- On the mod page for SC, it says steam/GOG (international ver in some) version is ported from the psp/ps3 version. I think the JP script are the the original Japanese PC ver, and the difference between them are probably causing the bugs. I would venture to says that in the psp update/port, they changed important things like cutscene/scenes/sprites ids.
- for SC, I have tracked the bugging patch to "_Patch-DT21.cmd". I am not sure about what exactly the patch do, but if it just overwrite the file like I think, since we don't have a decompiled version/data of the game the mod is unfixable. But again maybe the data/script is decodable, and if so and you know how to do it, you are welcome to try to fix it for those who come after.
4/ Bug list: (and how to fix them)
*when I write bug, It refers either to game crash, or softlock. The behavior seem to be (at least to me) windows -> crashes, linux -> softlock. Maybe my linux doesn't catch the fatal error and let the game running in loop.
*name should be descriptive enough to refer to them, but without risk of spoiling
*At best in order to happen, prefix is what game they are
-------------
--IMPORTANT-- If a bug isn't listed, it's probably because its a cutscene crash/softlock (softlock can be a cutscene that stop progressing, and where the characters are just idling with the music in background). Just switch to EN, do what you have to do, save and back to JP. Consider this THE standard method to try before looking at those more specific listed under
-------------
-------------
Bad installations bugs
-------------
- FC/SC | Aquableed/S-class bug:
problem: in FC aquableed bug the game. In SC some S-class bug the game
solution: you have put DT-10/DT-30 patch. redo the installation, without DT-10 (FC)/DT-30 (SC) patch
- 3rd | First cutscene crash:
problem: In the first cutscene, after Kevin is done talking and the party leading guy start talking again, it crash.
solution: In the external game options, you have (I suppose) activated "High Resolution Textures". These seems to bug with the patch but I have a fix for you, even thought you will need to reinstall the game.
step 1 : reinstall the game.
step 2 : extract the 1st batch of patch named "ED6the3rd-JP-Script"
step 3 : after extracting, you should have a folder named "ED6_DT22" among 2 other similar. Go inside it and delete the file named "T_FACE._DT"
step 4 : proceed to patch the game like before
*I have more explanation on this particular point in the last part of the post
Now intro cutscene and every dialogue bugs should be OK.
-------------
Bug List
-------------
- SC | Stuck in Trojan horse legs:
problem: you enter the dungeon, a cutscene triggers, your character walks between the four legs of a VERY giant horse monster, fight happens, and when following cutscene ends, you are stuck.
solution: switch to EN, get out of the dungeon. Then get out of the entire building (maybe even out of the zone, but should be enough). Then you can re-enter to the cutscene/fight, and then switch back to JP
note: If after the cutscene/fight you get out of the dungeon, Trojan horse might reappear. And don't worry the horse in itself is nothing of a spoil. Either the patch reset its position to 0/0 coordinates, or its an unused hidden asset that for some reason reappear.
- SC | Bose: Lost in the sky:
problem: In Bose specifically, you watches a cutscenes. Two outcome: 1st I wouldn't be surprised if the game crashes. 2nd and far more probable outcome, you find yourself in a bugged area, like you are stranded in the literal sky. The entire party (more than 4) can be following you.
solution: Switch to EN, watch & save, switch back to JP. You will have similar bug in the same act, but that bug is repeated 3-4 time later, Bose is just the first occurrence.
note: Seems like the cutscene area is loaded, the cutscene itself doesn't load. Because of that if you move inside that zone, you may be able (a bit hard) to find the cutscene's assets, kind of gigantified.
- SC | Bose: Airport crash:
problem: You just watch a cutscene in EN, saved after near the airport, and when you load back in JP the game crashes. (possibly with hud visual bug, like I could see during the crash the battle hud while being in the city)
solution: Take back your save to EN, get out of the city, get back in and save. Now your can switch back to JP.
note: I think the cutscene, or some data tied to the cutscene need to be unloaded from the save due to be different in the patch.
- SC | Characters turns to Frankenstein: (or into a pool of mess)
problem: You are watching a cutscene where there is an animated fight, and suddenly a character sprite (the character's skin/2d png) get randomized with different eye/arms/leg or even holes in them. Sometime it happen to multiple characters at the same time, turning the screen in a pool of character pieces. Literally ruinning the very nice cutscene. Can make the game crash.
solution: ... switch to EN. Its not really a problematic bug as the game put itself back sometime during, or after the cutscene. Can't do anything but to watch it again in EN. Will happen 2-3 times.
- SC | Suspicious military man that definitely shouldn't be here want to get in your party:
problem: Close to the end, when choosing your party, a pretty obvious intruder is here and its clear he shouldn't be here. (Wont say who cuz it will definitely be spoil, but I find it hilarious and obvious)
solution: don't pick him, he's a bug character due to the patch. On EN you'll find the real character available.
NOTE: But kind of funny since you can actually use him, he seems to have every base animation, and even his own S-class (no standard craft, so in reality he's useless).
-------------
Bad Linux Installation (0% chance)
-------------
*after tests, those that follows happened during my playthrougth but were only due to bad installation on Linux. I still include them in case, but looks like 0% chance of happening.
- SC | Orbal Factory/Shop crash:
problem: When you try to upgrade character's slots, or when buying gems, the game crashes.
solution: If you want to deal with the shop, switch to EN while doing so. 50/50 chance in JP, some shop bug, other not.
- SC | Black screen but cutscene sound / in-game photos bugged:
problem: see bug title
solution: You are like me and you don't know how to use Linux, learn to do a proper install. (don't just click on installer while having wine installed, use things like Lutris or future GOG Linux installer)
5/ Some bug/fix explanation
- 3rd | About "High Resolution Textures" / First cutscene crash:
After patching, high resolution texture options will bug the game.
Considering the bug also happen when Kevin is about to leave the first zone and talking (determined by switching between EN & JP), and that just after the first few fight on a wrong turn he tries to talk about how this is not the way and that crashes too, I deduced since it was a texture bug it was tied to Character face when they talk and are a main character (only these have faces, how npc at banquet doesn't bug aside the man that talk first since Kevin can engage dialogue with them).
I've tracked down the bug to patch DT-22, and since it have in its folder of files to overwrite, a file name "Faces", I suppressed it and then installed/patched normally, fixing the problem. There seems to be no patching error. Definitely a version difference between the source patch and the game we own.
I would have wanted to post this on the original reddit post, but I'm afraid I've crushed the text characters limit. (especially that there is not 3rd yet)
Have a good time on these games !
