I have a complaint, but it's more that falcom refuses to allow us to see more of Cassius in a battle. I still yearn to see Cassius fight with a sword. If they can retcon a certain character's strength in trails beyond the horizon, so can they with Cassius.

Ps. I am still annoyed that he isn't playable at all. While Aurelia Le Guin is. Like WHY?

Also i don't agree with this slander. (I saw it on twitter and i am aware that you aren't the one who made the meme.) but there is a small truth to this, but not for the reason that the creator of this meme has. [Since that person only just finished trails in the sky 1st chapter remake.]

My reasoning is that we know cassius have done much behind the scenes, but we also know he is talked about even in calvard arc. But we also know he never was playable even with his staff.

So why the heck is falcom still holding back with cassius? Unless they have something insane to reveal, and that's my real copium. Like actual copium and hopium.

TLDR: My frustration is towards falcom.

I totally get ya

Hell he got offscreen in Reverie tournament

Alongside another character who has no gameplay lol.( though in 3rd Cassius a boss fight)

7

u/fillif3 1d ago

If they can retcon a certain character's strength in trails beyond the horizon

Who?

21

u/MasashiHideaki 1d ago

Rufina Argent. In Trails Beyond The Horizon we find out that she was fighting two people at once, Loewe and a new character called Simeon, who happens to be around the same strenght or level as McBurn in his transformed state.(?)

10

u/fillif3 1d ago

Fair enough. It's been almost 10 years since I played Sky 3rd. I had completely forgotten what her feats were.

2

u/MasashiHideaki 1d ago

It's understandable! And thank you for taking the time to understand my frustration.

5

u/Florac 1d ago

Her being able to give Loewe a decent fight was established back in third.

6

u/MasashiHideaki 1d ago edited 1d ago

it was further recontextualized when we found out that Simeon was also fighting her. This is ontop of the fact that when 3 dominions. 2 divine blades, Van, and 2 characters from garden, Rufus and the rest of the ASO and Thors gang comes into the mix. That's when it gets rough, because after you win against simeon he says the following: "Quite the show you're putting on... I haven't had this much fun since i entertained lady rufina.

This implies that Rufina alone who were fighting loewe AND simeon gave simeon this much entertaintment alone without anyone else to team up with her.

7

u/Seradwen 1d ago

I recall it was long before Horizon that were pointing out that Loewe only mentioned Rufina's Crossbow when talking to Kevin in SC, and not her sword.

I didn't expect Horizon to agree that Rufina could match Loewe with one hand tied behind her back. But people were still saying it beforehand.

0

u/MasashiHideaki 1d ago

Yeah, but basically Horizon, changed that to just her being built different. (I like this recontextualization, because it does give me hope that Cassius Bright can get that same treatment.)

Funny you say that, i actually watched that video a few weeks ago and it actually really blew my mind. That youtube video really summarizes the problem.

Ps. I am still annoyed that he isn't playable at all. While Aurelia Le Guin is. Like WHY?

Because he is from a different era where not everyone caoable of wielding a weapon has to be playable. And I honestly wish we would return to it. I don't need 30 characters in a game, half of which have about as much kit depth as your average gacha character

31

u/Panda-s1 1d ago

this meme was made by estelle

11

u/WittyTable4731 1d ago

Or Weissman

3

u/CornerKun 1d ago

if someone else hadn't said it I was going to lmao

38

u/BigNeedlefish518 1d ago

I mean maybe the biggest piece of slander is them making up S rank for bracers and not addressing it for a couple of years

13

u/fillif3 1d ago

They probably want to do this in the Leman arc. I imagine Falcom was not expecting them to not reach the Leman arc by now.

9

u/GreyWolf818 1d ago

I wish it was only a couple of years, it took nearly two decades till Daybreak where we finally got some info on the other S rankers

36

u/LordVatek9 1d ago

Friend, I've slandered Estelle before for being purely a cameo and remake merchant who has made absolutely no real progress or development of any kind in the series since her games ended (still B-rank, embarrassed to show affection with Joshua, hasn't gotten any new abilities, etc.).

Slander knows no limits.

23

u/Xehvary The strongest in history 1d ago

They will get mega glazed when they appear again cuz of how good remakes did. Estelle is now falcom's VIP.

8

u/LordVatek9 1d ago

They'll try but I genuinely don't think modern Falcom writers have it in them.

9

u/WittyTable4731 1d ago

Yikes that is bad( for Estelle resume, doom to be B rank)

14

u/garfe 1d ago

What's funny is that they are clearly not afraid of promotion in general because Agate made A rank. So I don't know what they're holding back for

2

u/GateOfD 1d ago

.I feel like other than events just falling into their lap and getting carried by other more experienced bracers but still getting the credit. (in Skies Ch1) and just jumping to full fledged bracers right away. They don't actually do much bracer work themselves other than the basics.

While people like Agate, Elaine and Zin treat bracer work as their lifelong career and identity and seems like its all they do. Where Estelle does it cause its cool, and Joshua just tags along.

0

u/Florac 1d ago

I don't need or want her to have more development. Her story is done. I don't need more characters in a Renne situation where they keep trying to make her relevant every arc

9

u/LordVatek9 1d ago

Stories are not "done" in Trails. Characters may no longer be the focus but they can and should continue to grow in the background. Tita has. Agate has. Schera and Olivier have.

I'm not saying they need to be relevant in every arc but jeez they haven't any sort of growth in any area since they were 16 and they're in their 20s now.

1

u/Leather_Job_6264 1d ago

Totally agree. Btw, you can see the quality of a franchise when characters past they arc are still relevant and have new interesting things to show. The world moves on (with technology mostly), but the characters from years ago (in-game) cant?! I really hope that the popularity of the remakes makes old characters (e.g., Estelle) more relevant and interesting. Falcom needs to get outside its comfort zone.

7

u/sswishbone 1d ago

He's almost Tuxedo Mask in the first game being fair XD

19

u/fillif3 1d ago

If we talk about potential Bracer, then Zin would be a better candidate:

Meet potential S-rank Bracer:

He helped dealing with cult (like almost any other character).

He helped winning the tournament (Loewe gave him the win).

He killed random pseudo-Grandels (they resurrected and killed his teammates).

------------------

Give me Liberty, Give me Fire

Give me phone number to Arkide Solution

Or I retire.

--------------

0 victories

0 brilliant strategists

7 conversations about his S-rank promotion

-------------------

Show new feats in Calvard? (no)

Peak in Sky FC (yes)

2

u/arkacr 1d ago

Please make one for Bergard too I'm begging

6

u/fillif3 14h ago

I tried my best.

Meet potential elite Dominion:

He could tell answers to mysteries (he will not, but he will whisper that he could).

The strongest ASO's employee (no feats).

He has the fastest motorcycle (somehow late to deal with Gardenmaster but he looks cool)

------------------

Give me Liberty, Give me Fire

Take my Stigma Gaius, because

I am about to retire.

--------------

0 jobs done

0 people saved

7 pupils trained to do my job and save people

-------------------

Help with great Twilight? (no, I have to play dead)

Show up in DB1 for no reason? (yes, I never cared of plaing dead anyway)

Im up to date on the series and Cassius cool

11

u/greenhunter47 1d ago

Just speaking to the meme in general, not you specifically OP. You're good.

5

u/WittyTable4731 1d ago

Ah ok No probs 👍

7

u/Solbuster Ironblooded 1d ago

If you try hard enough you can slander anyone so ofc it exists

2

u/WittyTable4731 1d ago

...even Aurelia ? Or Osborne ?

13

u/SoftBrilliant Kiseki difficulty modder 1d ago

Osborne is easy outright

Aurelia has a huge discrepancy between her gameplay and story power so we have easy angles of attack for her.

5

u/Kainapex87 1d ago

You mean in regards to how her most damaging Craft inexplicably does Magic damage instead of physical or something else?

7

u/SoftBrilliant Kiseki difficulty modder 1d ago edited 1d ago

That

And also her self buff is outclassed, her slot restrictions are pretty bad, CP orders are gimped and her equip locks mean she can't use the rest of her higher numbers in CS3/4

3

u/WittyTable4731 1d ago

Or that Fake arios scene in Reverie

5

u/Xehvary The strongest in history 1d ago edited 1d ago

Aurelia has less feats than Kasim, the same guy this sub calls a fraud. She also has less impressive showings than Matteus and Arios in the same game. She's actually easy pickings.

Also can't forget the side quest where Rean hard her on her knees at the end of CS3.

3

u/WittyTable4731 1d ago

You think Matteus has a more impressive resume?

Even if Aurelia had a W against Arianrhod ?

7

u/fillif3 1d ago

Strangely, Kasim actually has feats. In fact, his situation is better than that of many other strong characters (e.g. Cassius and Arios) at the same stage in their arcs.

People just don't like his personality, which is fair enough.

6

u/gwonbush 1d ago

The other problem was his DB1 fights showed him doing nothing but charging a big gun, which seemingly anyone could do. All other top tier allies showed off something personally impressive in their first game while Kasim got a lot of hype but not much to back it up.

The fact that they later fixed this and gave him fantastic showings in DB2 onward just couldn't overcome the fact that he already had a reputation for not living up to the hype because people had been memeing about it for a year.

6

u/Terramagi 1d ago

The issue with Kasim is that most of his feats come down to his weapon.

It's like if the Heavy from TF2 was being argued as "one of the strongest people in all of creation" because he started revving up his minigun.

3

u/Xehvary The strongest in history 1d ago

The issue with Kasim is that most of his feats come down to his weapon.

This just isn't true. Because the laser beam hardly played a factor in his fight against Shizuna, he still landed a blow on her while she got nothing on him. He also trained Van and taught him how to use his Stun Caliber.

He's a Jaeger, so he's probably pretty good with many different types of weapons. Not sure why you guys are so affixiated on his weapon, when many of the top tiers have overpowered weapons. I'd argue Shizuna's sword and Lucrezia Glaive are superior weapons, considering the fact that they can cut space, Shizuna's sword literally won out against his laser lmao. What I think makes Kasim incredibly dangerous is that mysterious divine flame power that's passed down in his clan. He's got a power up state comparable to SU and Stigma, along with being highly skilled and having state of the art gear.

4

u/MasashiHideaki 1d ago

It's important to remember that later on in DB2 and further doubled down in Horizon, Shizuna was pissed off that Kasim held back against her in DB2.

So Kasim while holding back landed a hit on shizuna while she couldn't and that was ontop of kasim holding back.

0

u/Xehvary The strongest in history 1d ago edited 1d ago

Whether people love him or hate him, you have to be delusional to deny his strength at this point. He's easily up there with Aurelia, Matteus, Arios, and Victor. He has better feats than them too, if he's a fraud so is every other Loewe archetype.

-1

u/MasashiHideaki 1d ago

I am not gonna argue whether he has better feats than them or not, but as a matter of fact, he is stronger than Shizuna.

1

u/WittyTable4731 1d ago

Wouldn't that apply to loewe too? The weapon part i mean

4

u/Terramagi 1d ago

Unless Kernviter straight up beamed "how to sword gud" levels into his brain, Loewe still had to swing the thing. Position, spacing, all that.

Which, considering one of the "oh man Kasim's so goddamn strong" is him standing still and holding a weapon as it slowly charges up from 0-20% in like 15 seconds, says a lot. Like, I get it, the conceit is "oh man to even hold that much energy without exploding". But that's like me saying "this rifle has 30 shots" and somebody going "TO HOLD SO MUCH POTENTIAL".

5

u/fillif3 1d ago

Kasim has close combat skills (duel vs Shizuna), range skills (sniping a sniper), and ignored corrison.

He has feats...

4

u/Xehvary The strongest in history 1d ago

I like his Banter with Van, he bullies the guy. But he's a little too stoic and edgelord 90% of the time. So I can see why he's not a favorite in that regard.

2

u/WittyTable4731 1d ago

Exactly like why Jiren is divisive

2

u/Xehvary The strongest in history 1d ago

That's just the English fanbase, the Spanish fandom loves Jiren. There's more Spanish speaking Dragonball fans than English ones.

1

u/WittyTable4731 1d ago

Or they love his brother

1

u/WittyTable4731 1d ago

That personality part is the real point indeed

Just like with Jiren

3

u/TheSmugOjou-sama 1d ago

Aurelia parried a literal weapon of mass destruction with her sword and had a whole mini narrative arc with Arianrhod, which culminated in them fighting and Arianrhod acknowledging her strength.

Meanwhile, I can't remember a single thing that Matteus does other than being guy #1872 to show up one day and beat up Class VII before giving them a lecture.

I agree with you about Kasim, though. I don't particularly like him, but I agree he's overhated compared to other characters who are written similarly.

5

u/Xehvary The strongest in history 1d ago edited 1d ago

You realize she had A LOT of help with that right, Matteus was literally one of the swordsman aiding in that FEAT lmao. Matteus soloed 3 magic knights casually, same magic knights that were made to counter divine knights, Rean and co struggled their ass off against one on the same day.

And yeah Kasim is overhated, people either ignore the cutscenes and shit or something, cuz it's wild. Out of all the Loewe archetypes he's probably the most proven in terms of legitimacy.

allegedly ten million le epic chessmaster feats and his entire plan is little more than moronic accelerationism

6

u/WittyTable4731 1d ago

Tbf that most mastermind " omniscient " in fiction

2

u/arkacr 1d ago

IQ feats are only as good as the writers unfortunately; Falcom's recent record of IQ feats are essentially: char A has an epiphany, but won't tell anyone until the enemy reveals it, and then will say "I knew it all along".

1

u/Solbuster Ironblooded 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah, you can slander them too if you want, it's all about the agenda, not facts

For Aurelia specifically you can use her CS2 appearance where she serves Cayenne and acts like a generic "I want strong opponents" antagonist and for Osborne you can attack his CS4 writing. Even though I wouldn't agree myself, I can see some stuff worth for that

-1

u/garfe 1d ago

It is very easy to slander Osborne considering CS4 and the divisiveness around the reveals related to him.

4

u/garfe 1d ago

Okay wait a minute. There is some slander that can be tossed at Cassius, but he has shown up for his kids. There were two notable climactic moments in Sky where he did this

2

u/Chance-of-midnight 1d ago

For whatever reason, this meme seems to be the one way any kind of slander is acceptable for a character of the series. Any other type will get downvoted to oblivion but this one regularly clears the 100s.

1

u/JohnnyElRed 20h ago

"Hey, he was occupied defending the Bracer Guilds of Erebonia from attacks."

"You mean the Bracer Guilds that got all closed down shortly afterwards?"

1

u/Zergrump 15h ago

Cassius would approve of this meme.

-8

u/HotDadEnthusiast 1d ago edited 1d ago

I've always thought that Cassius Bright was one of the most boring and worst written characters in the series. He's always just showing up for a few moments, being completely perfect at everything he does, then disappearing again leaving Estelle and Joshua to do everything. All his "accomplishments" are either before the series started or happen off screen. He has no flaws, no depth, and no development. He's literally introduced JUST to be the equivalent of a middle school boy's first OC, super OP with legends about him being able to one-shot anyone and being unbeatable but no actual thought was put in. I'm so glad i'm not alone. In his defense, he's not the only character in the series like this.

2

u/TheSmugOjou-sama 1d ago

I've always found it funny that people in the fandom hate Kasim but glaze Cassius when I don't think they're that meaningfully different from each other in their writing.

I'll start respecting Cassius when he stops being a flashback cg merchant.

4

u/HotDadEnthusiast 1d ago edited 1d ago

In my opinion, one of the BEST written characters in the series is Renne. and the biggest difference between Cassius and Renne is that while Renne also has lots of noteworthy feats and is very powerful in her own right, she has things that Cassius doesn't. Conflict. Tribulations. Development. Backstory. You watch Renne struggle to learn and grow and change across the series. You don't get that with Cassius. He's just "big strrong super cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything" and he never develops beyond that in 13 entire games. If they wanted Cassius to be special, they really needed to give him more screen time, give him actual character development and actually SHOW us how badass he is more instead of just being "source: trust us bro"

edit: as the below thread says, another way they could have improved him is to give him LESS screen time, and make him more like a distant inspiration for Estelle and Joshua to aspire to knowing all his PAST feats and reputation. The problem I have is that they have created this man with so much renown across the entire continent, and this man actually is present during the events of the series, he shows up and plays an active part aside from just being Inspiration for his children, and for what? every time you see him he's just disappointing.

6

u/jmcm30 1d ago

The whole point of Cassius is not to develop, he's the hero who already went on the adventure, grew up, won, and raised the next generation of heroes. He is there as something for Estelle and Joshua to aspire to. By the time he put down the sword for the staff he was already beyond any dumb power level debates, and that's 10 years before the series even starts. Not every character needs some crazy arc, especially when their personality and beliefs are already well set in stone from a very eventful life.

2

u/HotDadEnthusiast 1d ago edited 1d ago

that's all well and good, but we didn't get to see any of that. that's my point. he's a character in a series with a plot of it's own and his contribution to that plot is weak. His role in THIS story, the one we're supposed to be consuming, the one actually being told to us, is poorly written. Characters of legend like him exist in other stories, but where they differ is that those characters are rarely seen and their role in the story is typically limited to worldbuilding. With Cassius, they write him in, include him in crucial points, heavily glaze his skills and act like he's gonna be way bigger than he is. He's not just a worldbuilding tool, he's an actual part of the game's story with a part to play and it simply does not work. If they wanted him to just be the role model for Estelle and Joshua to look up to then their error was including him in so many actual important story points without him actually doing anything. He's there. we can see him. He's not some goalpost, he's a real person but every time we see him, he's not doing anything. He shows up, Aura farms for a few minutes, then leaves. that's all we ever get to see of him.

4

u/jmcm30 1d ago

I completely disagree, he fits the mentor trope and fulfills it to a T, willingly letting his students develop and grow on their own instead of hogging the spotlight with his busted power level, which would've happened if he got involved directly. Instead of taking the role of hero again he is more so the emotional lynchpin of the Bright family and very important to both Estelle and Joshua. Both in a positive way and in how his reputation constantly looms over them throughout their journey as something to surpass. He's also just a really fun guy and all of his scenes rule but I guess not everyone thinks that unfortunately.

4

u/HotDadEnthusiast 1d ago edited 1d ago

I can agree with you in that if Cassius was TOO involved in the story it would be even worse. If he just showed up to beat up all the bad guys there would be no story. I only mean for characters like him there's a balance to maintain in order to keep them interesting, and Falcom sorta failed with him imo. He would have been much more impactful, at least for me personally, if he never actually appeared and was kinda like Dreichels, who plays a very important role in the story without ever actually appearing in person. The "role model for the main characters" trope loses some effect when the character in question is actually around but never does anything all that worthy of admiration

3

u/jmcm30 1d ago

I seriously hate how Dreichels and Osborne are used in Cold Steel so agree to disagree I guess.

1

u/garfe 1d ago

I disagree that they made it seem that Cassius is going to be bigger than he is. I mean for one thing, the main plot of the first game is finding him in the first place. That doesn't strike me as someone that is intended to do a lot of things.

Victor S Arseid > This bum

12

u/WittyTable4731 1d ago

Didn't Victor lost to Mcburn

Then Aurelia

Then Laura

Then Rean and Duvalie ?

4

u/MasashiHideaki 1d ago

You just made me realize just how bad victor's scalling is. Because Duvalie won against Loewe in 1/100th of a battle.

Damn. Oof. Victor S Arseid is a bum since Cassius bright with a staff is supposed to be stronger than loewe or as strong.

8

u/WittyTable4731 1d ago

I recall its

Sword Cassius > Loewe > Staff Cassius according to official statements by Kondo

Also Victor fought Yun to a draw many times...

That Yun from Horizon

2

u/Xehvary The strongest in history 1d ago

Yeah but like all characters who officially make an appearance, they're way stronger than what the statements say. Yun is definitely the strongest swordsman we've seen. Ein will also be op when we finally see her in the flesh.

-5

u/TerraArseid 1d ago

Victor fought Yun to a draw many times...

Cry more

3

u/garfe 1d ago

Victor is literally the hype moments and aura man that people accuse other characters in Trails of being. It's just that Victor has so little screen time and relevance overall that I think he gets overlooked in that regard.  Guess it runs in the family

1

u/MasashiHideaki 1d ago

You aren't wrong, but we also need to acknowledge that even with the limited time he had the chance to show off, He has some questionably bad showings like what the OP of this thread mentioned. And like i pointed out under what OP mentioned.

Ofcourse that does not stop victor from being cool and fighting McBurn, but it does make it look lame when most of the battle happened offscreen. He basically got laura'ed before laura got laura'ed and became a master of arseid school.

-5

u/TerraArseid 1d ago

1 - McBurn is the toughest opponent we've seen alongside Simon, lol. And he didn't clearly lose; Victor just suffered lung damage due to the length of the fight and the effects McBurn was unleashing.

2 - Exactly—against the most powerful human, or one of the most powerful ones out there right now.

3 - Victor, with only one arm and under outside influence.

4 - It wasn't against just Rean and Duvalie—it was against four people—but the only ones who were canon and couldn't be swapped out were Rean and Duvalie. Can you imagine Rean without his Spirit Unification and Duvalie beating Arios and Victor? Lol.

5 - In that same tournament, Victor kicked Cassius's ass with one arm xD

3

u/Xehvary The strongest in history 1d ago

Tbf, Bardias also fought the same Mcburn and didn't get crippled. He didn't lose, but he would have definitely died if the fight continued. Mcburn is a raid boss who's supposed to get jumped so that makes sense.

5 - In that same tournament, Victor kicked Cassius's ass with one arm xD

Well Victor had mfing Arios on his team. Cassius had Zechs, Zechs even said he weighted Cassius down. Zechs is nowhere near as strong as the other 3 in that bought.

1

u/MasashiHideaki 1d ago

Zecht was literally a dead weight. Gaius saved zecht's ass before, against some weakass assault, and that was way before he even became a dominion. Hell i think this was an exposition thingy back in cold steel 1. Before gaius even met rean etc.

0

u/TerraArseid 1d ago

10s and without the sword Angbar LOL

0

u/Xehvary The strongest in history 1d ago

Bardias literally said Mcburn wasn't holding back in their fight. Make of that what you will. I haven't played cs3 in over 6 years and even I remember that shit.

2

u/TerraArseid 1d ago

What does it matter what Bardias says when we all saw what happened? McBurn didn't use his sword and didn't transform—that counts as holding back.

0

u/Xehvary The strongest in history 1d ago

We literally didn't even see the fight happen because it was all off screen. Hell are you on about? Just because he didn't pull out his sword immediately, doesn't mean he didn't use it for certain moves while they fought. He does this in his boss fights where he'll randomly summon his blade for certain attacks.

2

u/MasashiHideaki 1d ago
  1. We don't know the details. Cassius was offscreened (even worse admitely.)

to explain why we don't know the exact details and why i am doing a rebuttal on your statement:

One eyed zecht was with Cassius. The same guy that Gaius saved from near impending doom and that was BEFORE even becoming a dominion. So i could easily argue that it was 2 vs 1.

Hell i can even argue that since cassius is a top comanding military officer, there is no reason for him to show his full strength in a tournament meant to be for fun. Although the same can be said for arseid and arios.

But we do need to acknowledge that One Eyed Zecht is a DEADBEAT in this battle. So ultimately it's still a 2 vs 1.

0

u/Upstairs_Ad_495 1d ago

Same weakened boss that was giving alan richard a tought time and was about to kill him?

-5

u/liquied 1d ago

I don't care how many rumors and off screen feats this man has, he's a bum on screen who is never there for his children and lost the two on screen fights he had.
