Hello everyone! First off, I want to extend a warm welcome to all our new members. It's nice to see our community grow consistently each month, and I'm thrilled to have each and every one of you here.

Our subreddit has recently crossed the 2K member mark, and it's all thanks to your enthusiasm and love for fantasy writing. To help us get to know each other better and make this community even more engaging, I’d love to hear more about your writing journeys.

Here are a few questions to get the conversation started:

  1. What kind of worlds do you enjoy creating? Are they high fantasy realms filled with magic and mythical creatures, dark and gritty settings, or perhaps something entirely unique?
  2. What's your preferred genre within fantasy? Do you lean towards epic fantasy, urban fantasy, grimdark, or maybe a blend of different genres?
  3. Why did you join this subreddit? What drew you to our community? Was it the desire to share your work, seek feedback, find writing prompts, or something else?
  4. What would you like to see more of in our subreddit? Are there specific topics, challenges, or events you’d like us to focus on? Perhaps writing prompts, critique threads, world-building discussions, or collaborative story projects?

If you can think of anything else you would like to say please feel free to leave it below; your feedback is invaluable in shaping our subreddit to better serve all members. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or just starting out, your insights will help us create a supportive and inspiring environment for everyone.

Thank you for being a part of this journey. I look forward to reading your responses and seeing how we can make this community even better together. Happy writing!

Hey everyone I have finished the first book of my series (not professionally edited) but I really could use some constructive criticism and or tell me if it’s worth a damn if anyone is interested please lmk. Here is the description:
The Heir of Shadows
Mason was a blacksmith. A husband. A father.
He had never wanted power. He had never wanted glory.
Then his brother, Prince Benjamin, is murdered—and Mason is blamed.
In a single night, everything he loves is taken from him. His wife and children are executed, his home is destroyed, and Mason is left with nothing but grief and a thirst for vengeance.
Then something answers.
An ancient being known only as the Shepherd offers Mason a bargain: the power to avenge those who wronged him, in exchange for his soul.
Mason accepts.
But every gift has a price.
As Mason learns to wield the darkness, he discovers that death is not as simple as he once believed. The dead do not always pass peacefully, and the shadows hiding beyond the veil are far older than any kingdom.
Far from Mason, another life is being shaped by forces she cannot understand.
Alexandra has spent her life surviving the cruelty of others. A slave, a fighter, and a woman who has learned to endure what should have broken her, she expects nothing from the world but another day to survive.
Until something begins watching over her.
Something ancient.
Something gentle.
Something that does not want her to survive merely for herself.
As darkness gathers around Mason and a mysterious light begins to awaken within Alexandra, their paths are drawn toward a conflict neither of them understands.
One has been chosen by Death.
The other may have been chosen by Life.
And neither knows what they are becoming.

I’d like to lean into traditional publishing but I would really just like for people to read this story and give me thoughts it would be so amazing. Thank you all in advance. :)

Gamehendge Fan Fiction

Hey, y’all! I love Gamehendge, so I decided to write some fan fiction about it. I was curious about Roger, Errand Woolfe’s son.

I wanted to know why Wilson suspected him of treason, and why was Roger so dangerous that Wilson had to be executed.

I began writing about Roger, and the story grew into an origin story for the rebellion against Wilson. This is a prequel to Gamehendge.

Here is a brief description of the book:

ROGER THE RELUCTANT REBEL

Roger Woolfe never wanted to be a rebel.

He only wanted to help.

But when helping starving Lizards brings him into conflict with King Wilson, Roger discovers that there is far more at stake than a few sacks of grain.

With his Phriends beside him, Roger begins a journey into the mysteries of the Helping Friendly Book, the Sacred Rhombus, and the strange force that connects every Lizard in Gamehendge.

The Phlow provides.

But Roger will have to discover what it means to listen.

A Gamehendge fan-fiction novel about friendship, rebellion, sacrifice, and finding your own song.

I have published the first chapter on WattPad, and there will be more to come!

Misc Post Idea for a story I got after a nightmare (repost btw and sorry if the grammar or formatting is bad 🙏)

I had a nightmare and it led to this story. Well here it goes. It's like a story where the setting is a futuristic world where people have evolved into possessing powers and most of them want to be a pro gamer, so they take a VR Simulation test to join the best gaming university. This VR test is taken based off of the characters favorite gaming genres (Action, Horror, etc.) and if you die in the VR, you die in real life as well. People first develop powers based off of the first game they play, which sets their power type and favorite gaming genre.

Those who don't play games don't get powers, so naturally people want to take the gaming route. The MC (Cade) is a guy who loves action gaming. His powers are extended stamina, sharp shooting, enhanced physical specs, and any type of gun on him at all times. He meets this traumatized girl (Ivy) who survived the horror test. Her powers are telekinesis, telepathy, etc. because horror games usually use those type of powers.

She is the only person out of 20 horror game testers that year to survive and also the first person to survive horror in 20 years. The reason people take such risk to join the University is because the political party who controls most of the world in all manners and are also the first people to get powers are corrupted. Since they were the first people to gain powers, they gained the strongest powers, one of them being immortality which allowed them to rule for so long.

Cade joined the university to overthrow them, Ivy to protect her family, while others joined to become a member of those ranks. One of that person being Vance, a racer type gamer who catches wind of Cade's plans and tries to use Ivy to get rid of him, but that backfires completely because he underestimated Ivy and her powers. In the university, All the first periods are homeroom, where all genres are mixed up. Ivy, Cade, and Vance are in the same homeroom. After homeroom, each genre get's separated to focus on their specific genre. And that's all I got so far. I'll tell you what happened in Ivy's Horror Test next time. Peace ✌️

I've been writing an original story for a while, so I thought I'd start sharing the process

I've been working on an original story for a while, and I decided to start sharing the journey here.

I've already been working on the story, characters, world and plot for some time. I usually keep all of this to myself, but I thought it would be interesting to start sharing some of the process and ideas behind the story.

I'll probably post about things like character development, world-building, writing problems I run into, and some small parts of the project as I keep working on it.

I won't be sharing major plot points or spoilers, though. I still want to keep the actual story a surprise.

Just wanted to introduce myself and the project before I start posting more.

Original Content Nothing

Written at midnight. Followed by no sleep. Revisited at noon. Here is my story.

Before there was anything, there had to be something. But that is a trick because it could not be something; it had to be nothing. Nothing is nothing, though. So what happened?

And that is exactly it. If it happened, then there was a time. At the beginning of time, nothing became everything. There was so much stuff, an uncountable infinity of stuff. Imagine every moment of every possible combination of stuff, obeying the law. It isn't easy to imagine.

When time sparked everything into action, he spurred gods into action: gods in charge of everything, gods that didn't have to follow the law. Gods had power over things; they could make and destroy.

For a moment, time wasn't sure about something. Is nothing something? Does nothing need a god?

Time made the decision. The God of Nothing was born powerless, without the power to create or destroy. Unable to play, they were mocked by the gods. Angered by the other gods' cruelty, the God of Nothing set out to destroy. But how? The god tried everything attempting to destroy something, anything. After exhausting themsleves, the God of Nothing tried to create, and they laughed at the simplicity of the joke.

They realized that by making nothing, they could compel time to make everything again. And again. Though these everythings were at a smaller scale.

After practice, the God of Nothing set their traps. They lured each god into its own universe, where each became unshakably enthralled, forever focused on a universe reflected from the vain, narcissistic god it ensnared. This is how the gods were destroyed, trapped in loops looking at reflections of themselves.

That was the end of everything. Time now only held a sack of hollow shells instead of a vibrant ocean of life. But the God of Nothing had not truly destroyed everything; they had only frozen it. Whenever time came upon one of these shells, it sprang to life again, breeding new life and more gods within each nested universe. Incensed, the God of Nothing set out to stop this proliferation.

There was no way to keep up. Each universe was essentially the same: smaller, yet just as populated. Talking about size doesn't really make sense here; each universe was just as complicated as the one above it, even while being held within its parent. The God of Nothing simply could not match the pace of time.

Until they saw a way.

Deep within one of these winding paths, the god grew exhausted. The God of Nothing stopped to wonder, and an idea took hold. They realized that while they had tried and failed to end everything and return it all to nothing, they had never tried turning themselves to nothing. The God of Nothing laughed again, remembering all the times it had tried to destroy, never thinking to destroy the only nothing there was, themselves. Once more, they set their traps. They froze all the local gods, shackling them forever to their own images.

Finally, with the gods dead, the God of Nothing asked for luck and tried to erase themselves entirely.

Because they were nothing animated by time, attempting to destroy themselves by tearing into two halves of nothingness caused an impossible fracture. Instead of vanishing into void, they split into the two fundamental halves of everything: Fylet, the silent mass of matter, and Dynamis, the restless surge of energy.

Cursed by their own divided nature, every time these two halves come imperfectly together, they cannot help but create more of themselves. And thus, the final joke revealed itself, and the God began a neverending fit of laughter.

Original Content Farspace Planetburst Part 5 of 5 "The Endgame" By Tito (Fantasy Short Story)

Yoyoyoyo! The final part to my short story! Enjoy my wowza readers! Thank you for your time!

Part 5 “The Endgame”

Everyone did so. The boys and girls kept themselves in their separate group. The young teens were confused to see that the double sun was now gone again. “Ah. Well, this solar system isn’t like ours. These planets don’t need the sun as much as we do. Every 48 hours, the double sun appears to glow onto the rocky planets, then hide behind a black sun. Yes, you heard me right, there are black suns out here. Anyways, think of this as an eternal eclipse.” The young teens muttered amongst each other for a moment before they went silent again. They eagerly waited for Ru to inform them who was the winner. “Heh. You all did well. I had a blast just watching you duke it out, work together and even take down one of the cosmic creatures from our Universe. Impressive. I do hope you thanked your bonds. If it wasn’t for them, none of this would be possible.” He pauses before speaking again. “Look down and watch as the winner becomes apparent.” Ru states as he stretches his arms out towards the solar system below. The young teens watch as the solar system, now transformed into a dust cloud of magenta and teal, stretched across with the dominating colors fighting to be the majority. It was a close one, a paper-thin line, but in the end, the teal was the winner. Wyatt, Tashunka and Omar all cheered (while Bol stayed silent). The girls weren’t impressed, especially Saba and Zainab, but in the end, they even clapped for the boys. They all had to admit, it was one hell of a time to participate in. “Now then, come back so we can go over what you thought of the game!”

Back in the building…

Giiisa welcomes the group back with great anticipation. He had several other Guted beings with him all ready to jot down notes. Tamarock is there as well. She stands close by Ru’s side. The young teens and their bonds were now separated, but the Co-Zopods either sat on their heads, shoulder or sat next to their bonds. “Alright then! I wanna know what you thought of this game!? Tell me your praises, your upsets, something to make this game go smoothly. Everyone will speak up about it. We’ll start with the girls, because it is ladies first.” He said as he elbowed Tamarock lightly. She grabs for his arm to hold him close.

Omar laughs. “It should be the boys first since we are the winners!” Zainab sighs loudly.

Wyatt shrugs. “Just let them go first man. It’s all good.”

Noor was the first to speak. “I enjoyed my time with Webster. It felt like we’ve been separated for a long time, and it was a nice reunion. The powers we were able to use was just incredible! I even managed to get a few hits on my brother!” The young teens laughed, even Omar. “It was like a dream. Thank you for this opportunity. And thank you Webster for helping me.”

Webster speaks. “It was a pleasure. I will be keeping my name as Webster in honor of you.” Webster was on Noor head when he spoke. Next to talk was Saba.

“My cutie! We did so much cool things! Sparkle dust! Beating up the boys and blowing up planets! So cool!” Saba cheered.

“I’m happy you enjoyed yourself.” Cutie said while it sat on her shoulder.

Zainab was next. “Yeah, I guess it was fun and all. I got nothing to complain about, other than how short the game was. It felt like I was in a VR headset. Niihkóó was annoying…but, thanks. For letting me in space and all.” She muttered.

Niihkóó chuckles. It was sitting next to her. “It was my pleasure, Zainab. You have quite the spirit to keep fighting the good fight. Just work on your manners.”

Saba giggled as Zainab tried to stomp on Niihkóó. It was easily dodging her foot. Lastly for the girls was Mani. “I…I’m sad. I wanted to not only spend more time out in space, in ACTUAL space, but also, I felt very close to my bond.” She turns to face Majestic on the floor. “I know it’s a feeling humans wont truly understand, but when we bonded, it felt like I was waiting all my life for you. I hate to keep bringing up about how my life is, but it is hard. And this was such a great positive replacement, even if it was just for a few hours. You’re like the best friend who guides me to becoming a stronger version of me.” Mani holds back light tears. Ru half smiles. Giiisa was trying hard not to cry. Majestic climbs up her leg and rests on her shoulder.

“Mani, you should know, the potential for you to becoming a stronger version of yourself is always there. It’s you that has to realize that.” Majestic said as it taps her nose with one of its leg. “We will always be best friends. Take this opportunity to making your life a better one. I believe in you. Remember to believe in yourself.”  Majestic said. Mani nods as a few tears fell from her eyes. Majestic rubs its body against her face.

“Look at that. Do you all recall when you thought the Co-Zopods were gross and terrifying? Heh. Beautifull.” Ru said. “Now for the boys! Go on Wyatt my boy.”

Wyatt rubs the back of his head, feeling pretty embarrassed that everyone was looking at him. “Ehhhh…I really don’t like being in the spotlight. It was fine. Nothing needing to really be redone or worked on. I guess I agree with everyone else when they said it was fun and wanting it to go on for longer. Oh…my bond…yeah, Niiwo. We didn’t really talk much, sorry about that.”

Niiwo was sitting next to Wyatt. “Not to worry Wyatt. Our species take on the feelings and personality of our host. So, I didn’t feel like you were ignoring me. That’s just how you are. It was entertaining though.”

Wyatt chuckles. “Yeah, like when I almost got eaten by that serpent looking thing?” The young teens gave out a light chuckle.

Tashunka nods to Ru. “TARS! Tars were and is amazing! I’ve enjoyed my time flying around and destroying planets! I just wanted it to go on for a little while longer!” He exclaimed. “This really helped with me being more positive. Heh. I’m usually, actually scratch that, I’m NEVER like this. I guess the game and my bond really helped with having me be more open. I would love to participate in future events if anything transpires!” Tars speak while sitting next to Tashunka’s feet. “Ah, it was fun Tashunka. That positive energy you thought was never there was always there. I encourage to be more outgoing and talkative; it does help you along the way.” Tashunka gives his bond a thumbs up. Bol was up next.

Bol sighs deeply. “I hate doing this kind of stuff. The game wasn’t boring. Lots of obstacles were in our way, but I suppose it was part of the game. Can’t make it too easy, right? I would recommend the players who get defeated by an opponent should be eliminated for a few moments. Like 10 seconds or something. It’ll make you work with others more.” Bol said. His words caught a few of the young teens by surprise. Naatohko speaks. “Well said, Bol.” Bol eyes down at his bond, then crosses his arms. “Your voice was like fingernails on a chalkboard, but you did guide me to take down something from space. That was…kinda cool.” He mutters. Naatohko chuckles lightly. “Glad to have helped.”

Omar was up next. He had quite the stern look on his face, before a smile quickly ward off any worries. “Ah. I really don’t have anything bad or to criticize on the game. I thought we had enough time to play. Spending time with the Co-Zopods was excellent. The fact they can bond with you on a deeper level of spiritual connection is still pretty difficult to grasp. Honestly, I do feel a bit sore for giving my bond a reckless name. Forgive me, Destroyer.” Destroyer speaks while it sat on Omar’s left shoulder. “Think nothing of it. I enjoy the name.” Omar laughs. “Noor, it was fun, ya? Now I know you’re stronger, that means I won’t be so easy on you during our sparring matches!” Omar stated. Noor nods proudly. “Thank you, Ru, and everyone else. For everything.”

Ru smiles widely. “No, thank you all for taking the time to participate. It sounds like the game was a success and the bonding was even more successful. That was my mission for you all; to see within you to show who you really are. With the Co-Zopods, they are able to dig deeper within us then any therapist or best friend can even relate to. It’s how they described it several times with each of you: they are you as you are them. Heh. I can only hope that this has changed your outlook. As I said before, you have the freewill to change your journey of life by taking a new path. It’ll be all on you from here on out.” He concluded while taking the time to look into each individual in-front of him.

Bol had a half-smile on his face. “I knew you were hiding something. So, this was like a life lesson for us?”

Ru shrugs. “I guess so, ha-ha! Forgive my devious way! If I were to tell you this upfront, I doubt anyone of you would be onboard.” The young teens muttered in agreeance.

“Oh, by the way…was there any prize for us for winning?” Wyatt asked after a moment of silence. The young teens, especially the boys, fixed on Ru to hear what he had to say. Ru places his hands on his hips before he proudly states:

“Nope! Thanks for playing!”

The End

Discussion Help me expand and give me creative feedback

I have an idea for a story for something (I'm not sure what the piece of media will be yet) so, in this world, WW3 has broke out a couple of years ago, China, Pakistan, and Turkey formed an axis like team to achieve there goals of expansion, however, failed to defeat the allies USA, UK, France, Etc. Also, a while back, while mining in Africa, miners come across an underground civilization, that has a powerful stone called "The Sentry" which will give immense power to whoever wields it, so the UN, trying not to end the world, put it in an underground facility in the U.S. So in modern day defeated China, it is like Germany after ww1, all beat up and poor, and one day a man named Odium starts a revolution to fix China, and succeeds. Now in control of China, Odium goes after the Sentry stone and gets a hold of it, where he preceeds to kill a bunch of people, before the due to a guy shooting it, the sentry stone breaks into pieces and spreads across the world, ending up in the hands of six people. So now, the world in split into six kingdoms, all of them having a triple alliance with one another. I though of a few characters and I'll go over them here, Odium: The big bad of the story, loves killing, torture, and war, rules over his kingdom with an iron fist, Nationality: Polish Height:6'2 Athena: Kind natured, only wants the best for her kingdom, wants the fighting to stop, during Odium's attack her husband and daughter were killed Nationality: Canadian Height 6'4 Henrique: Self-centered, thinks of himself of like Napoleon, Constantly at war with Kwame's kingdom Nationality: Portuguese Height: 6'4 Kwame: The leader of the kingdom in Africa, doesn't like war or to kill, willingly saves soldiers that Henrique leaves behind, his family was taken in as slaves by Henrique. Nationality: Zimbabwean Height: 6'9 Knox: Although I have a backstory for him, it's quite dark, and probably not appropriate for here, though one thing I can say is that he is the only leader to not have a piece of the sentry. Nationality: Turkish Height: 5'6 Valdemar:  A brave and willing man, believes in fair trial and justice Nationality: Danish Height:5'4 Valentina: An assassin who was hired to hunt to down the Mayan girl Nationality: Mexican

There are a few other characters, but they don't have names so I'll just go over them here, An American boy who had his sister killed during Odium's attack, who also due to a mishap, get's a piece of the sentry stuck in his hand and gives him a power (don't know what it is yet) A New Zealand girl who loves exploring, and is generally bubbly, but has inner troubles with her emotions, as she is a lesbian. A Mayan like girl from the underground civilization, who is on the run because she has the piece of the stone Knox doesn't have, was also hated by her people for being a lesbian, later falls in love with the New Zealander girl. Lastly, a Chinese rebel fighting against Odium, kind of like how the Native Americans fought against the U.S. So, yeah that's my idea, BTW the good tripact is Athena, Kwame, and Valdemar, and the bad tripact is Odium, Henrique, and Knox. Let me know what you guys think of my idea, give me your creative feed back, or message me if you want to do concept art for it.

Discussion The Riven Circle — 23rd Arcana

I've been working on this project since September/October, last year, and I started writing the chapters for its story a few months back. Since then, I've written 43 chapters (>1000-1500 words each, including a Prologue.) and have been publishing it on RR rather consistently.
However, the conversion from Readers to Followers has been bleak, if not non-existent.

Which brings me to the topic: would you people mind reading a few chapters of my story and share your experience? Especially, I need to know where I lose the attention of my readers.

The link to the story is in the comments.
Thank you!

Prompt The Great Lawn (Placeholder, idea/plot open for the taking)

New idea if anyone wants to grab it:

"A Bug's Life" but mixed with Sword and Sorcery.

A back yard tended by a benevolent line of Great Ladies and Gentlemen that are aware of the magical and sometimes harrowing things happening in their back yard.

When you zoom in, there's politics and intrigue and magic and innovation and adventure and war and strife, everything we humans have gone thru but scaled down in one big ass back yard.

Plot: the Queen of the Tree Hill Ants is sick and is dying. She has sent out a messenger to the Princess of the Sandbox that she was the next in line to take the throne and guide Yardworld. Her sister, from the Hill Under the Rot, a kingdom formed underneath a large rotted and excavated root of the Great Tree far off to the southeast of the Yard, is furious and sees the throne as her own rightful place, the crown hers to take, and she starts gathering allies from the other insect kingdoms to form an army and declare war on the Sandbox and the Tree Hills for supremacy.

Y'all can flesh out the rest as you want and change what you need but that is the main plot I came up with before I just decided not to write it myself. Free to a good mind-home!
