I'm American, I concurr and I also apologize to all Canadians on behalf of those who fought to keep him out of office. We exist, we tried everything, and it wasn't enough. I'm sorry.
We didn't try hard enough. The first time around we thought there was no way. The second time we pushed back just hard enough. The third time... there's no excuse for that.
There were people here that gave it everything. Depressing, really. To think that they gave their heart and soul to the fight and so many Americans shrugged and said it wasn't their problem.
It's telling that he won when running against women. Fundamentalist Christian misogyny is woven deeply into many Americans' identity and thought processes.
Never forget the dems that wouldn't get off their asses and vote for the one candidate that would have defeated him. To this day they blame anyone but themselves for this BS. I will never forget or forgive those fencesitting POSs.
I'm still fighting. I go to every protest I can, I help my candidates campaign, I help write articles in the newspaper, I attend every political event I can, I speak with every candidate I get the chance to as well. My mom does all that and more too, she's an old hippie and I'm proud to work with her through all this.
But it never feels like it's enough. We do more than most and there's always more to do, and it never feels like it's enough. But still we fight, because how could we not?
As an American and as a Canadian, I cannot and will not stand idly by and watch this country go into the shitter without a fight.
I work in political tech and I just want to tell you how much it matters to the folks working in politics seeing folks like you show up and work hard for this country. The day to day stress right now is almost unbearable and seeing folks turn out for their communities is sometimes the only thing that keeps me going. We deserve a better country and it insoires me to see folks out trying to make that happen.
I worked really hard organizing and it’s WM who were shrugging their shoulders and doing jack shit. If you wanted to find a way to help- you’d likely have a woman trainer or organizer. So now men insist no one worked hard. We did and you refused to even engage.
I have to say, the constant apologies from Americans are very cold comfort for ever country/nation/continent currently being attacked/harassed/invaded by the USA.
Yeah, I get it. For me, I'm absolutely horrified at what Trump has been doing to everyone, and I feel powerless to do anything to stop it. I can protest, I can write to my Senator or Representative, but the only real power I have is voting in November. The Republicans are in charge, and they refuse to do anything to hold Trump accountable. There is the mere thought that we could be on the verge of invading Canada and Greenland, and there is nothing I can do to stop it.
What country do you live in that’s being harassed by Trump? Because unless you’re Ukraine or Iran I guarantee America itself is suffering more. Try being from Minnesota. Can’t go anywhere without ICE agents.
Americans are so self-centred, they think a country's sovereignty being threatened by America is better than living in America. They aren't a serious people.
