There were people here that gave it everything. Depressing, really. To think that they gave their heart and soul to the fight and so many Americans shrugged and said it wasn't their problem.

It's telling that he won when running against women. Fundamentalist Christian misogyny is woven deeply into many Americans' identity and thought processes.

That added extra votes, but he had a huge number of white women vote for him against Hillary.
