This is what gets me, is the sheer idolatry of it. It's hard to laugh at him because what he wants isn't just childish, it's genuinely indicative of the telltale signs of so many men before who spoke to a desire to see themselves installed as a fixture of the state and a permanent dictator.
Without context, for example, it almost seems comical to imagine Saddam Hussein as so pop culture obsessed that he demanded to see Passion of the Christ on a portable DVD player before his execution

I go to every protest I can, I help my candidates campaign, I help write articles in the newspaper, I attend every political event I can, I speak with every candidate I get the chance to as well. My mom does all that and more too, she's an old hippie and I'm proud to work with her through all this.
But it never feels like it's enough. We do more than most and there's always more to do, and it never feels like it's enough. But still we fight, because how could we not?

Between 2020 and 2024 every demographic shifted towards R. White men/women, and Hispanic men voted R, everyone else voted D. But point remains that every demographic shifted R for 2024, except white men/women, which stayed identical.
Black Americans when from +86 D to +64 D. Hispanic went from +25 to +3 D. Asian went +40 D to +17D. White stayed the same at -12 R.
So something about Harris vs Trump after 4 years of Biden convinced Americans across the board that more Trump is what we need. That shift across the board is what we need to address. Yes obviously white men are the majority of R voters, but that's ignoring the glaring problem that EVERYONE started going towards Trump.

I always feel like while a part of my love for this country was extinguished in 2016, a much, much bigger part was extinguished in 2020. I could have moved past a single election, told myself it was a fluke, people trying to shake up the system, whatever. But when it happened again, and when I knew this time that we (collectively as a country; I wasn't an active participant) put him back into office intentionally, knowing what a shit show it was the first time around, something fractured in me that I don't think can ever be repaired.

I'm a sucker for weeping willows and this hurts to see, I know trees die/outgrow areas so they might become dangerous so turnover is necessary, but everything is gone. That feels so wrong.

Weeping willows mature and die relatively quickly for trees. They usually only last 70-90 years, which surprised me when I learned it. I have no idea how old those ones were, but I’ll hope against hope they’re replaced

70-90 years is on the far end of age, in perfect conditions. These willows have cramped root systems because of where they’re planted and would not last nearly that long. They have been replaced before and will be replaced again one day.

I live in DC and was a Kennedy Center Circles member for a decade before dropping it when he took over.
This occurred late 2025. I’ve read claims the tree roots were impacting the garage under it. I’ve heard weeping willows have 40ish year lifespans and probably needed to be replaced. I’ve heard they can be dangerous if they grow too big because they aren’t very solid so not stable in high winds.
All that said, never before in years of membership that included updates on capital projects and such did I ever see mention of an issue with the trees.
He’s doing all he can to ruin what was previously a beautiful city. It nauseates me daily.

The main ones in the tourist area are still there. I live in DC. He cut down some on a different federal property. They were still part of the official gift from Japan and its still unacceptable but if you want to come see the main cherry blossoms by the water and the monuments they are still there.

I dont think Donald Trump is thinking about the willows outside the Kennedy center. I've seen the Atlantic article calling them rotten, which if you had them in your backyard you might also want them knocked down.
Plenty of other bad things he's doing to the Kennedy center, not sure why we need to conflate this with his pettiness.

We should leave the stumps and add a plaque commemorating what Trump did. Or better yet, leave all the half-assed construction projects and fully label them as Trump Ballroom, Trump Arch, Trump Reflecting Pool… because you know damn well not one of them will be finished by the time he is no longer in power. I read the article but it wasn't clear to me if the trees were cut now or in October 2025. If it was in 2025, then I am not sure if the outrage can be justifiably tied to the recent Kennedy Center related actions by the government.
