Opening retirement account at 34?
Hi, I had a rough time in my twenties and spent a lot of time with a lot of mental health challenges. There's a lot of things that were never explained to me..such as going to the gyno and retirement planning...etc. Getting cervical cancer shots...Idk well I'm catching up now.
I don't have any debt, but recently found out people have been contributing to their retirement accounts since their twenties. I have about 70k saved up, but that's just cash in a savings account. I'm not sure what the best move for me right now is in terms of starting a retirement account. People keep saying to get my employer to match, but I'm starting grad school soon. It's a fellowship program, so I'll be getting a stipend of $60k/year. Could I also invest that? I have been keeping expenses low by living with family and will be able to continue doing so since the university is nearby. Not sure what the best move is. Thank you.
Also no debt. I'm super new to this. I just throw money in a savings account attached to my bank.
