Discussion Live Auctioneers Shipping Seems like a Bait and Switch

Upvotes

https://www.liveauctioneers.com/ has some wild shipping costs on $90 of goods. The full thing should fit in a medium sized box and is under 15lbs. I understand the soapstone needing lots of attention to detail when packing, but the base price for shipping the small bag of coins was >$70. The local packers wanted the same, but they were charging another $100 to pick them up. Am I missing something?

Discussion Motorcycle jacket armor 'melted' during shipping?

Sold a name brand motorcycle jacket on ebay recently. It was like new without tags, maybe a 10-15 year old model. When I shipped, it had no odors and the shoulder and back pads felt fine.

Buyer opened an INAD shortly after receipt and said the foam was disintegrating. No other comments.

When I opened the returned package, the jacket was a sticky mess. The inside of the box was coated with a light greasy residue, with small bits of sticky foam everywhere. The remaining foam was down in the arms and corners of the lining. It had some animal fur stuck to the lining and there was a slightly sweet chemical odor.

I asked the buyer it they ran it through the washer or dryer, and they only said 'I tried it on and the foam came out and made a mess'.

My best guess is that it was either run through a dryer on high because buyer was worried about bed bugs, or it was in a very hot trailer during shipping that broke down the chemicals in the foam. The washing instructions explicitly say 'cold water wash, no tumble dry'.

Has anyone run into this before? I've had products with crumbling foam, but this level of degradation is impressive.

Fascinating Story Lifetime find! Boston Celtics player used membrobilia from 50's-70's

Wanted to share a pretty wild Celtics find I recently came across.

It’s a group of personal items belonging to Tom Heinsohn, including two Celtics jacket (one from his playing days), Converse All-Star garment bag with his original luggage tag, and one of his rollie of the year presentation trophies/awards.

The coolest part to me is that these aren’t just signed collectibles. They’re actual personal/team-used pieces connected directly to Heinsohn and his time with the Celtics. I’ve been digging through old photos, auction records and previous Heinsohn sales trying to date everything and figure out exactly when the pieces were used.

Still doing the research, but as a basketball/Celtics history find, this has turned into a much bigger rabbit hole than I expected. Does anyone have experience with photo matching or knowing how to narrow down the years that each of these items was used?

Edit: memorabilia*

I actually started trying and looking for games and I made $200 already this weekend

Whatever you want to know about flipping, no matter the question, ask here. Even if it's been covered 1,000 times before. Doesn't matter if you're new or old. If you stop learning things, you're probably on your way out.

This is an extremely newb-friendly thread. As such, any rudeness is to be reported.

Fascinating Story Goodbye my love, Papermart officially gone as of August 26th 2026 😭

Well there goes my connection for the good bubble wrap, not sure what I’ll do now. (Uline can rot in hell)

I knew it was coming with the weird sales they kept having and items not coming back into stock but it still hurts

Logged in today cause I needed more bubble wrap, and the website was completely different. A little bit of digging showed that they sold the property last year and have until November 2026 to be completely cleared out

So yes, if you check the website still exists, but the new company is in Ontario,CA with no shipping supplies at all right now

Discussion I have no idea who left me the bad rating on Facebook Marketplace

I recently received my first ever non-5-star review on Facebook Marketplace after having 35 five-star reviews. The person gave me 3 stars, and I wanted to figure out who the buyer was and look back at our interactions.

The problem is, I cannot find this person anywhere. I know their first name and profile picture from the rating, but I can’t find anyone matching them in my message list, archived messages, or even my blocked accounts.

I remember seeing that I had received a 36th rating a few days ago, but I didn’t know who gave me the rating. Since I couldn’t identify the buyer, I couldn’t rate them back and see their rating immediately. So I kept assuming that my overall rating was still 5 stars.

Then this morning I noticed that my rating had dropped, and realized that the 36th rating was actually a 3-star review.

Now I’m really confused about who this person was and what happened, but I genuinely cannot find them anywhere. Has anyone experienced this before?

Discussion Genius idea to weed out competition

What if I donate a bunch of *seemingly* valuable flips but give them empty boxes/the wrong box, valuable electronics(if they were a slightly different model), the wrong CD in a case, etc.

Then when other flippers are spending time figuring out if something is actually worth anything I swoop in for the other items.

Thoughts?

Discussion Anyone flipping thrifted kitchen stuff? Curious what actually sells vs what just takes up space

I work in a diner kitchen so I feel like I have a decent eye for quality cookware, but I keep second guessing myself at thrift stores when I see cast iron or old baking pans. Picked up a couple of Lodge skillets last month for like 3 bucks each thinking easy flip, and they did sell pretty fast so that felt good. But I also grabbed a big copperbottom pot that I was sure would move quickly and it has just been sitting there mocking me for two months.

The thing is I thrift pretty regularly anyway because I genuinely like it. I do a lot of DIY stuff at home and I'm always looking for things to upcycle, so I figure I might as well try to make a little extra on the side since I'm already there digging through everything. Problem is I can't always tell what's a real brand that people search for versus just a chunky old pan that looks nice but nobody wants.

Is there a pattern you guys have noticed with kitchen items specifically? Certain brands or types that move reliably versus stuff that just sits? I keep learning the hard way and my storage space is genuinely not big enough to keep making expensive mistakes.

Discussion Flipping stamps

Found a ton of stamp books and mint condition stamp books from the 1880s to the 1960s. The previous owner left meticulous notes. There are hundreds of complete stamp sheets with protective paper. There are probably 20 thousand stamps either in books or ordered chronologically from the 1880s onward. I have never sold stamps before. I know many of the stamp sheets are rare when looking them up online. I am looking for advice from others that have flipped stamps. I feel overwhelmed with my find. I already flip items on eBay but I have never used hipstamp. Thanks !

Advanced Question What tools do I need for testing electronics?

Basically what the question says. I’m dealing mostly with small / personal / home electronics — computer accessories, cameras, beauty tools, that sort of thing. But I occasionally pick up a power tool here and there. So far I’ve been winging it, but my inventory is growing, and I’d like to be able to have more certainty over what works and what doesn’t.

I’ve done some research and it seems that I need a multimeter for batteries and power adapters, and perhaps a different tool to test actual devices? Is that correct? Any product recs and/or considerations when shopping for them are welcome.

Discussion Dealing with odd behaviour

So recently just listed a phone on Facebook marketplace that I got for relatively cheap and just wanted to offload inventory and got many responses. This one individual in particular a female appeared to be messaging me from somebody else’s phone a male. And was talking frantically sending back-to-back voice notes trying to set up a meet up as soon as possible. It’s actually very rare that anybody has ever sent me a voice note on Facebook marketplace if ever.

So I gave her address near my house a local gas station and I had her meet me there she showed up, put the SIM card in. She didn’t even care if there were any faults I was trying to explain to her certain things and I could see her visibly tweaking , displaying signs of possible drug use. And then to top it all off when she was giving me the cash she reached inside her bra to give me the cash and I’m just thinking like bro what the hell , like I’ve never seen that maybe a lot of you have seen you know similar behaviour but it’s like moments like this that catch you off guard what do you do and how do you prepare for unpredictable people as you know humans tend to be unpredictable to varying degrees. If somebody pulled money out of their bra, would you just walk away?

Mod Post Weekly Haul Thread

What'd ya get? How'd ya get it? What do you plan to do with it?

I'd like to encourage people to revisit this thread occasionally for as long as it's still on the front page. Sort by New so that latecomers aren't left out. Obviously, if this is a few pages back, you're probably better just waiting for next week's thread. You'll see that I've also changed the title to Weekly instead of Weekend so people don't hesitate to post what they found on a Wednesday.

Further, if I see haul posts outside of this thread, I'm removing them. Feel free to report them if you see them.

Discussion NEW FLIPPER

Hey everyone Im trying to improve my skills with flipping I have a baseline understanding of how to do it since I’ve resold stuff before. My biggest concern with flipping is just having to wait for people to reply to a listing. I just retook a lot of photos as i understand how important that is. But I still can’t seem to get people to buy my listings. Also when I am buying items with plans to flip, is there any app I can use or something that gives me a rough idea to understand if something is worth even buying to potentially make the flip? Like is eBay sold listings the way to go in terms of seeing if stuff sells, I know that’s what people say to use for looking at what the value of what people actually pay for an item.

Thank you I could use all the help I could get

eBay Ebay is asking for shipping receipt *HELP*

*SOLVED* - After finding the label in my email, I submitted it to the link, and CS closed the case in my favor. Still wondering if this is gonna be a new thing for INR going forward or if this is just a random one-off.

*I originally posted this in the eBay subreddit, but an auto mod took it down, saying it was a scam; it's not. The post was gaining traction, so I'm reposting it here.

Hello, I'm a full-time seller, and I have never seen this before. A buyer claimed they didn't receive the item in a $40 order. Usually, these cases close automatically since the tracking is uploaded to the order and shows as delivered. But I just got an email from eBay asking for the postal/shipping receipt. But I do not have one because all my orders are picked up daily by each carrier from my warehouse location. In the email I got, it says the tracking doesn't show a specific delivery location, but it clearly does.
Is this a new system in place going forward? It's going to be very inconvenient for high-volume sellers to drop off all packages to each carrier every day.

*Edit: It's not a scam; the email is directly from eBay. I got it after the buyer escalated the item not received case. I blocked certain stuff out to keep my eBay private. (Just to be safe from any retaliation from eBay staff/employees, in case I ever post some criticism that they don't like, I don't want my account to be targeted. I know it sounds dumb lol, but I do this full time, so I'd rather be safe than sorry.)

I bought the label directly from eBay on August 12th. It doesn't give me the option to reprint the label, only to get another label.

Discussion What are some of the most in demand wood furniture pieces you see or personally experience that sell quickly and at a decent profit? Especially if you’ve done little to zero restoration to it?

This is NOT one of those naive “get rich quick” posts.
I have a lot of project piece furniture in storage I finally have the time to restore. I just want to know where to put my efforts and where to just sell as is because it has either no value or holds its value.

Discussion Is it just me, or has flake culture gotten 10x worse lately?

I’ve been trying to clear out a few bigger items this week, and I’ve had two separate people set up a specific time to meet, say "on my way," and then completely ghost. I was waiting at the agreed intersection for 10 minutes waiting for someone who probably blocked me, is the worst feeling.

For those of you who sell regularly, what’s the absolute most annoying thing people do after you’ve already agreed on a time and place?

Advanced Question Shipping hats- 8x8x6 or 8x8x8?

In the process of buying a bulk amount of boxes primarily for hats- baseball, trucker, five panel, and SnapBack mostly. I’m leaning towards 8x8x6 but maybe some hat veterans can chime in. Ideally I’d like to optimize weight & size for shipping costs

Hello. I’m trying to print a shipping label from Facebook Marketplace. I have a rollo thermal printer that connects to my MAC laptop. Not via WiFi. It won’t format to my label printer. I’ve watched pictures of what my setting options are as well as how to label shows in print previews and how it prints. Never have a problem with EBay. Any ideas l?

eBay Something going on with eBay search?

I search, no results.

I google, find eBay listing, copy/paste title - no results.

How can I find the item easier with Google than eBay's OWN search?
