From dreaming about Microsoft and Google to hoping for a 3.5 LPA job , what happened?

When I started my BTech in 2022, I had very different expectations.

I used to think that by the time I graduate, I'll be working at Microsoft or Google, earning something like 21–25 LPA. Even 10–12 LPA felt like something I should be able to achieve if I worked hard enough.

College started, and slowly I started learning. I learned programming, worked on my fundamentals, DSA, Java, SQL, databases, JDBC, React, Spring Boot, and built projects. I'm still learning and trying to improve myself every day.

But somehow, reality turned out very different from what I imagined in 2022.

Initially, I thought, "At least TCS mein toh lag hi jaayega." Then I came to know that for many opportunities they require 60% throughout academics.

And I have 56% in my 12th.

That one thing itself closes doors for quite a few companies, irrespective of what I'm learning now.

And now, honestly, my expectations have changed completely.

Earlier I was thinking about 20–25 LPA.

Now I feel that even getting a 3.5 LPA job would be a huge achievement for me.

At this point, if someone offers me a decent work-from-home job paying ₹17k–18k per month, I would genuinely consider it. I just want an opportunity where I can start my career, learn, gain experience, and prove myself.

Sometimes I look back and think, what happened?

Was I just too optimistic in 2022? Did I not work in the right direction? Is the market actually this bad? Or is this something most engineering students go through?

I'm still learning and applying, but the difference between what I expected when I started BTech and where my expectations are today is honestly crazy.

2022: "Microsoft/Google, 20+ LPA."
2026: "Bhai koi 3.5 LPA ki opportunity mil jaye."

Not trying to gain sympathy here. Just genuinely curious , what do you guys think? Kya ho raha hai? Am I being too pessimistic now, or is the job market actually this difficult for freshers?

Would love to hear from people who went through a similar phase and eventually figured things out.

New Grads Opportunities at FAANG+

Hey, I'm a 9.5+ CS 2026 graduate from BITS Goa. I would like to think I have a good profile with decent Competitive Programming as well.

Unfortunately, due to certain situations, I sat for campus placements and I'm not satisfied with where I am at. Placement season was not super great on campus. Realized my mistake a bit too late.

I want to try for SWE roles at Quants or FAANG level companies. Since I already graduated, I would appreciate any leads or any advice for somebody who has done anything similar. New grad hiring isn't popping off right now, but would love to how to approach this.

I have phone numbers of 40–50 HRs. Should I call them asking for job openings, or is that unprofessional?

I somehow managed to collect the contact details/phone numbers of around 40–50 HRs and recruiters from different companies.

I'm currently actively looking for a job/internship, so I'm wondering — should I actually call them and ask if there are any openings?

Something like:

"Hi, I'm currently looking for an entry-level software developer role. I wanted to check if there are any relevant openings in your organization."

But I'm also worried that randomly calling HR people on their personal/work numbers might come across as unprofessional or annoying.

Would WhatsApp/texting first be better? Or should I directly call during working hours?

Has anyone here tried this approach? Did it actually work, or would you recommend sticking to LinkedIn and emails?

Genuinely curious because I don't want to ruin a potential connection by approaching them the wrong way.

Graduated 1 year ago- still jobless. Feeling hopeless and anxiety. Can someone help?

I graduated in Computer Science & Engineering in 2025, and honestly, the fresher job market has been much tougher than I expected. I had given interviews for 2 big MNC in 2025, I was expecting atleast 1 job offer but lost both due to hiring freeze. Since then, I've been actively trying to find my first IT job.

I've tried pretty much everything I could — LinkedIn, Naukri, company career portals, and off-campus applications. I've applied to countless openings, but getting even one genuine opportunity to prove myself has been incredibly difficult.

Skills: Python, SQL, frontend web technologies, SDLC and STLC concepts, AI and ML fundamentals, MS Office Suite, Network and OS concepts.

I'm not looking for a huge package or a dream company right now. I just want my first opportunity to enter the IT industry, learn, contribute and build some real experience.

I'd genuinely appreciate any leads, referrals or advice. Even a small lead could make a huge difference right now. 🙏

2025 CSE Graduate Looking for My First Software Job - Referrals or Guidance Appreciated

Hi everyone,

I’m a 2025 BE Computer Science & Engineering graduate from DY Patil College, Pune, and I’m currently looking for my first opportunity in the software industry.

During my final year, there was a change in our college placement coordinator, and unfortunately, the placement process was severely affected. As I understand it, some company-related placement data was removed before the previous coordinator left, which left many students without proper placement support.

Since graduating, I’ve been continuously applying for jobs, learning new technologies, building my skills, and trying to improve myself. However, despite putting in consistent effort, I haven’t been able to secure an opportunity yet. The current job market for freshers has made things particularly difficult, and going almost a year without a job has been challenging.

I’m reaching out to this community in the hope that someone might be able to help or guide me.

I’m currently looking for entry-level Software Engineer, SDE, Backend, Frontend, or Full-Stack Developer roles.

If anyone could:

\- Refer me for a suitable entry-level position

\- Suggest companies that are hiring 2025 freshers

\- Share job openings or leads

\- Give advice on improving my resume, skills, or interview chances

I would genuinely appreciate it.

I’m hardworking, eager to learn, and ready to put in the effort. I’m not expecting anything to be handed to me — I’m simply looking for an opportunity to prove myself and get my career started.

Even a referral, job lead, or piece of advice could make a huge difference.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I truly appreciate any help or guidance from the community.

2027 graduate genuinely scared about placements, looking for opportunities

I'm a 2027 BTech IT graduate and honestly, I'm getting genuinely scared about what happens after graduation ,I'm not even able to sleep due to all of this ,

Campus placements have been really unpredictable. Weird shortlisting, getting filtered out before the OA, and sometimes not even getting the chance to prove yourself has made the whole process really discouraging.

I have an 8.3 CGPA, internship experience, and projects in Java, Spring Boot, backend/full-stack development, and I'm still actively improving my DSA and technical skills. I know I have a lot more to learn, but I'm serious about working and willing to put in the effort.

I'm now actively looking off-campus for decent software/tech opportunities. I'm open to SDE, backend, full-stack, graduate roles, internships, internship-to-full-time opportunities, startups and remote roles.

I want a good opportunity where I can work, learn, contribute and prove myself.

So if anyone can help with a lead, referral, internship opportunity, fresher opening, hiring contact, company that's currently hiring, or even a direction on where I should be applying, please reach out.

Even if you don't have an opening yourself, if you know someone who does, I'd really appreciate being pointed in their direction.

I'm genuinely scared of reaching graduation without an opportunity, but I'm not giving up. I'm ready to learn, work and make the most of whatever chance I get. 🙏

Really confused about college placements

I applied to a company with SAP ABAP role and 5lpa salary but if get selected in this company I can only sit for 2x package as per placement rule of my college
I got to know HCL, IBM might come to campus but with same package offers…should I go for brand name or give the interview for this company too?
I’m genuinely very confused…is SAP ABAP a good field?
As a fresher it’s difficult to make decisions in which company to apply or not
For this role I’ll have to shift to Bangalore

Got a 4 LPA offer - should I join as backup while still hunting for better SDE role ?

I recently completed my SDE internship at a product-based MNC, and couldn’t receive a full-time offer and PPO.

I have now received and accepted an another offer for a Graduate Engineer Trainee role with 4 LPA CTC and my joining date is within 3 days.

At the same time, I’m actively applying for SDE roles and preparing for interviews.

I’m considering this offer as a backup/safety net while continuing my job search.

My questions are:

• Is it a good approach to join this role while continuing to apply and interview for better SDE opportunities?

• If I receive a significantly better opportunity shortly after joining, what should I consider regarding notice periods, employment terms, and switching early in my career like within weeks/months like considering 1-2 months ??

For a 2026 graduate from tier 3 clg how to approach this situation .

Stuck trying to make a decision, can someone help?

I'm currently a final year btech cse student. So I joined qspiders bengaluru as an incubation student through college. I was hoping that I can get a job through them since the opportunities in my clg are trash. After joining I get to know that they don't allow any incubation students to sit for interviews and make them pay for that. It's been a month since I joined, the teaching is good but they go really slow. It's gonna take around jan mid to complete the course, and I feel it's useless cuz I won't even get any opportunities. Is the certificate that I'm gonna get useful? Should I just quit and grind by myself in my home? What do I do? I feel major hiring companies come from September till December or something, and if I continue here I won't be eligible for that too. Can someone who works in tech and has knowledge help me out to take the decision? Thank you :)
