You can only carry two weapons at once but this flying broomstick shoots 20 homing missles

you’ll prolly be able to carry more in Online as there’ll be some p2w clothing equipment.

For an old guy new to the game. What is the "Oppressor"?
16
u/alekstoo 1d ago
basically an all-powerful, overpowered flying motorcycle which shoots rockets. very unbalanced + completely out of place
6
u/ArmandoGalvez 19h ago
Wait, are you sure this isn't from saints row 3? What the fuck happened in GTA online? I only played a little on the 360 back then but I didn't liked it, so I never got into GTA V in newer consoles or PC because I already was done with the main story in the 360

u/snack217 16h ago
As years went by, they started adding "special" vehicles to keep the game fresh and to bring more variety to the DLC missions. This bike wasnt the first, first we got the Deluxo, A.K.A the Back to the Future DeLorean, which was also a flying car with missiles.
And yeah the Oppressor lives up to this name, because the problem is that it was abused by griefers and toxic people, and its size and speed made it a lot harder to counter-attack. But it just worsened a problem that had always been there, griefers, but at least back in the day, worst they could get was a buzzard helicopter, which was slower, hard to handle, and easy to take down, but still a probem.
But on the other hand, as the game became more and more about grinding and doing business stuff and doing heist preparation missions, the Oppressor bike is a blessing, nothing even comes close to it, incredibly easy to use, to take off and land absolutely anywhere and with zero crashing risks, to attack NPCs, etc. Game really needed something like this if you really wanted to maximize your earnings per day.

u/ChillCucumberZ 1d ago
The most dumb, most OP flying vehicle ever. Made GTA online virtually unplayable after it was released
9
u/AscendMoros 20h ago
The First one was not anywhere near the mark 2. It was annoying AF, but it had some drawbacks if i remember right. The Mark 2 took everything that was a weakness with the first one and just got rid of it.
Keep all that flying cars and shit out of the game for a few years at least Rockstar im begging you.

u/silentdeath3012 18h ago
Mk1 could only glide and wasn't even that good but still fun. Mk2 was total cancer.

Take off and land instantly, shoots homing missiles, ruins the game from every perspective, as a normal player you dont need the variety of different vehicle types anymore, same goes for the tryhard (the player focused on killing other players for no reason)
2
u/JackKnightmare 20h ago
I quitted online after the realization that using the oppressor mkII makes the game so boring that it feels more like a job than a game, since there is no obstacles or steering from point a to point b to destroy x target with a single missile, also by making you buy a missile jammer or nerfing the hydra(the only effective counter to it at the time) to encourage you to buy the most recent and most expensive jet, the raiju which is faster and more maneuvarable for only 8500000 gta$

Well, that and a myriad of other things. Every time I opened GTA online I was blasted with messages to do this, buy that, limited time event, don’t miss out on x or y etc. It was an information flood that always made me wanna stop playing. And I did.
3
u/CrookedSunshades 20h ago
You can turn all those all those notifications off, and you can play gta online in solo lobbies. There's still a ton of new missions, a couple solo heists that are fun, and for any fan of the series, definitely worth playing.

GTA Online is Rockstars true cash cow, after everything they did in GTAV i would no be surprised if GTA 6 Online goes off the rails with dumb shit within 2 years. GTA Online is likely the reason we never got GTAV DLC or Undead Nightmare 2 as well.
53
u/Topikk 1d ago
Counterpoint: everyone I know in real life stopped playing Online after a few years because you couldn't do much of anything without being constantly spammed by homing rockets coming from land, sea, and air.
As much money as they made selling this bullshit, I think they left money on the table by disrupting the balance so quickly and thoroughly. It's entirely possible they try to keep people in the disposable income demographics playing longer this time around.
22
u/Slow__Cheeta 1d ago
Id like to think GTA6 Online will be a more grounded experience im not getting my hopes up though. I fully agree that GTA Online was bullshit that shouldn't have lasted and still lasting as long as it did while receiving new content when other dlc and games for that matter could have been made.
No denying that cash dump accumulated a fortune that allowed GTA6 to be as ambitious as it is though9
u/ramblin_troubadour 1d ago
The fact they abandoned red dead 2 for that slop still makes me so mad to this day. If there’s one thing I hate rockstar for it’s that. Why tf would you spend all that time making a game to abandon it for a game that was already out for 5 years. It’s so absurd. Fuck GTAV online. Rdr2 online is just the same regurgitated shit

Bro they left pennies on the table.
GTA V Online was/is one of the highest grossing online video game economies in history with over $5Billion with a B in revenue.
Most players didn't quit they paid real money to do what was done to them to others

u/Hansi_Olbrich 22h ago
Dan Houser straight up admitted that it was more profitable for Rockstar to spend 4-6 hours with a small team making a car to sell with a Shark-Card than it was for them to spend several months with a dev team to make a serious expansion pack of DLC series.
The reason RDO never expanded was because it wasn't making a billion dollars worth of revenue within 12 months. For Take2/Rockstar, if it doesn't automatically print billions of dollars for the least amount of work possible they won't do it.
They can brag all day long about horse testicles shrinking in the cold but Rockstar gets real quiet when you ask why they bothered to make Mexico/New Austin/Isle of Guam if there was never any intention to have players actually go there for anything.
→ More replies (3)9
u/lfenske 1d ago edited 1d ago
Right? As someone who doesn’t play GTA online I’m pretty comfortable saying that the revenue it generates is the reason rockstar felt comfortable spending (I’ve heard as high as) 2.8 billion dollars on this game. All said and done I guess Rockstar made 4-5 billion dollars on GTA 5 game sales alone. Thats not enough to justify spending 2.8b on a game. My guess is they’re going to try and go bigger and “better” with the online and shit will most definitely get “out of hand”
Kind of a double edged sword. Without the online cash generator GTA 6 would likely be a much much smaller and less impressive game.

Definitely a big fear of mine too, but one of my biggest ones is them once again making earning money (the main gameplay loop of the game) unbearably grindy. I'm not saying making money should be quick, but they really need to figure out how to make prep work fun.
Unfortunately, i doubt this will change though, considering its most likely intentional to encourage the purchase of shark cards.

u/FatherHaz 1d ago edited 1d ago
Money grinding is going to be more tedious with the new realism features; updated wanted/police system, limited weapon loadout, refueling vehicles, etc.
It’s going to result into more people buying GTA+ and Shark Cards.
Since they are taking a bit longer to release Online. I wonder if they will keep those features or make Online more arcadey to appeal to the current GTA Online crowd aka Oppressor MK2/Shark Card whales.

u/RATGUT1996 1d ago
Oh yea if I even smell a vehicle like this added to online its an automatic bail. Put up with that shit for too too long and I still to this day advocate for its removal from the game as a whole. Fuck the mk2!
11
u/AnObtuseOctopus 23h ago
I don't want any of that made up future shit.. none of it. I don't want the little gun that sends shit flying, the laser guns, the flying cars and bikes.. none of it.
I'm sorry, but, I loved GTA V, had a lot of fun with my buddies.. but, as soon as all that stupid future shit showed up, it killed the feel. It wasn't GTA anymore.. it became sharkcard simulator. It killed the entire feel of the world, killed the excitement of cop chases, killed having any reason to do petty crime, killed races, killed missions, it literally ruined everything that made GTA V what people loved it for.
I'd much rather they stay rooted in the world they created.. and not add a bunch of fantasy ass sci-fi sharkcard bait that is going to make this entire world pointless.... Again.
22
u/TNovix2 1d ago
They won't go that route again, it's clear they want to keep it "real" and more grounded. I can't see them doing broomsticks again or going the futuristic tech route

I really hope GTA 6 has a proper item shop like Fortnite and Ubisoft games. Some of us have jobs and responsibilities and simply don’t have 300 hours to waste grinding for the good stuff.
Let me buy the best assault rifle on day one, a supercar and a luxury apartment with real money so I can skip all that boring “building your criminal empire” stuff. Then I can jump straight into the endgame and start blasting high-level NPCs.
Honestly, I’d even like a battle pass with exclusive weapons, outfits and properties each season. It would be way more convenient than actually having to earn anything.
And please add daily challenges, limited-time cosmetics and rotating shops to single-player too. I don’t want some outdated RDR2-style experience where I actually have to live in the world, make money and organically work my way up. I have a job in real life, I don’t need another one in GTA.
Rockstar should understand that immersion is nice, but monetisation is forever.

They could make it silly and grounded . Such as introducing silly weapons like the dildo bat from saints row. Items you can realistic acquire in VC.

i already know gta 6 online is gonna go wild, as much as I'd like it grounded, I'm sure the grounded aspect will change in a year after online is released. My ONLY hope is that they've learned from the problems in gta online and give us balanced vehicles and weapons.
1
u/AloneCamp4880 1d ago
yeah i’m gonna stick with sixm when that eventually drops but i do have some hope they won’t fuck it up because RDO was pretty good with realism and fairness and they only started adding in silly clothes at the very end of its lifespan. but they did kill off RDO because the grind for gold bars was actually really quite fair so it wasn’t making them the big bucks like GTAO was. never needed to buy gold at all in RDO, and by the time i quit playing i had like 300 bars. i don’t have a lot of faith but i think they probably will lean closer to RDO than GTAO just with a way worse grind and it’s also probably going to have a separate price tag than 6’s story mode.

Nah don't worry! Rockstars innovative 3 billion dollar cars that look like normal cars but actually can dodge or have resistance against it's missiles will come soon.
Although don't get to comfortable in them champ, because they'll add the "Fuck you in particular canon" that kills any player anywhere. Costs 20 dollars to fire so get that credit card ready.
If this isn't enough then they'll sell you more solutions to the problem they caused. Armored flying cars, jets, helicopters. You won't shoot a normal gun ever again!
Make sure to grind whatever heist gives the most money solo. Have enough money from the grind? No you don't. Get five times more before they nerf that heist to the ground.

They already said that kind of stuff isn't coming back at all, they want to keep a grounded experience and realistic. I do think we will get expanded maps because of the patents. During a interview they said every NPC and interior was handcrafted by a art team. But the patents revealed they made a system to make interiors and NPCs based off keywords and assets they made so basically procedurally generated to simplify it. But they didn't use it in GTA 6. So I think it's for map expansion and would explain why vice city airport is so Big. We might have the ability to fly to different updated cities. Plus we can go into the airport for the first time as shown in the reveal.

this is exactly what's going to happen, gta online has made rockstar literally billions, and it's only gonna get worse in 6, we saw what they did in red dead online with nerfing actually good money making methods so it was either 8 hours of nonstop grinding or 20 dollars worth of gold bars to buy something. Gold bars will absolutely make a return in their own way in 6 online when they add stuff like the oppressor mk3, it'll either be 20 million dollars which'll take a whole week worth of grinding to afford for free or 25 dollars of whatever premium currency online will have.

u/Responsible_Lie_1989 11h ago
I think the approach to online for GTA 6 will be different types of lobby's. You'll have some that are more like GTA V with the annoying flying vehicles and stupid weapons but they'll also have more realistic "RP" type lobbies as well, I'm sure I read somewhere Rockstar had hired some well known community creators to help do this for GTA 6 online.
1
u/Icy_Chemist_1725 10h ago edited 10h ago
This shouldn't be. It should already be obvious as a forgone conclusion.
The real concern should be them releasing online as a separate game entirely for $50 base and $80 for the special edition with a $9.99/month subscription and 19.99 premium subscription for creators/RP/etc. Then their new currency will be some sort of crypto that is even worse than the GTA 5 money and they make you buy their shark cards, which increase the value of the crypto when shark cards are purchased or something retarded like that.
Oh did I forget the mention that the PC, PS5, Xbox, (future PS6) will all have separate online and single player games that require purchase for each system. Also the subscriptions for a ps5 and Pc game would have to be separate if you wanted to use multiple systems. How else would playstation further discourage gamers from switching systems to PC? Imagine if they also do an exclusive online release where you have to wait on PC for a year to play the online mode. =)
If they were going max greed, these are all options, many of which they have already done in some form or another.
