People saying ts not realizing there is a ton of options to choose from in GTA 6, NTM it's an optional fridge where as most of the others shown is a one time animation the game makes you do

People also don't understand that making decisions like this is exactly why Rockstar is goated.

They most definitely could have developed a system to ensure that in-stock items dynamically populated fridges and have animations that accommodate this. But if you start doing this to every single detail and every single permutation in a game that is meant to be reactive and dynamic in a massive context you end up lost in the sauce.

This is why Star Citizen is where it is and GTA 6 is where it is.

I'm not really sure if it would be possible...

Even 20 different items means how many different configurations... and animation for each? Without clipping when grabbing it?

I don't think they meant the fridge specifically, but how they develop games in general.

You prioritize what's more important. Either way game is not released yet.

Tbf Rockstar did focus a ton of time in horse dick in the last game they made so they aren't above it.

They also simulated ant colonies which is basically a missable detail

Sandbox games like h3vr and h3vr2 can do that because theyre indie devs with no strict time limit. Gta6 needs to come out at some point.

They spent time on phones blacking out when they're held against the head but not this or a car's steering wheel turning when the car does?

This it the RDR2 horse nutsack situation again, spending time to show off instead on stuff the player sees

The phone blanking is easier than this system, and the horse balls works as good advertising. This is mostly inconsequential, although a camera angle hiding it would work.

How do you know it's easier? Is it really easier to make a dynanmic system of distance measuring from a moving mesh held by another moving mesh instead of having the character grab an existing one?

I wasn't thinking of making the phone dynamically measure distances, I was thinking at a specific key frame in the phone call animation it would be turned on or off, but a raycast to measure distance from the front of the phone is also pretty easy.

Idk man, that still seems like more effort than making what's in the fridge be objects that already exist

They did this in RDR2 already in the stores

Isn't the contents of the fridge dynamic? So the objects don't already exist, they need to be placed.

I don't know how it could be dynamic, there's no grocery system apparently

Planning to add a grocery system could have caused the fridge grabbing to get cut, then when groceries were cut it was too late

Maybe, but then they could still have just put a respawning beer bottle inside and called it a day

Idk man, Rockstar has made weird detail choices in RDR2 (horse balls vs giving the hairdresser a haidressing animation even San Andreas had), what I see here is not encouraging to me

Pretty sure it took like one dude from each of three different departments to make the horse nuts expand and contract.

It's not like they first began making the horse nuts, only to then realize they needed to implement an entire temperature system into the game engine just to make them react correctly.

They probably use like 1-4 models of horse nuts and just use transform tools to adjust their shape and size over time when in certain temperatures.

Making the car steering wheel correctly move whilst doing any and every other animation a character can do would take a whole lot more effort and collaboration. If they did all that, people would still be complaining like:

"why does my arm clip through my big gulp drink slightly when I am drinking and turning sharp right with my left hand? Pls this is so immersion breaking"

The steering animation is in GTA V (maybe IV)

But in RDR2 it was possible too

Items in RDR2 have predetermined spawn points and everything is the correct height and size for the handful of animations, that'd be different with like a million different options
