I’m a personal assistant to a wealthy older gent. He’s a bit eccentric. The other night we were going to dinner. He knows I love gold coins. He’s wearing his old style blue blazer with gold coin buttons in gold bezels. (They are real)

I’ll now be checking buttons at thrift stores! He also said he was taking it to the cleaners. I said no you aren’t!

He is nice, he gave gold coin earring for my birthday.

Just scratches and wear on the Maple, and some fire damage and small divot on the reverse of the AGE. Too bad bc they are both 1st year pieces... 1983 was the first year they made maples .999 and 1986 was the first year they made AGE's...

Still cool pieces to have as a collector, though I do this as investment first.

Got stolen by USPS?

I am venting out. This is my first time to buy a 1oz gold coin from APMeX. USPS delivered our package. According to the tracking number and APMEX site, the package "delivered" but not package. What in the world that happened. This is $5k. I don't understand why the USPS mark delivered but no package? USPS provided that someone's signed and received the package. Who does received the item and u know it's not belong to u. Going to USPS, going to police and report it and contact our CC company.

Price of Gold when 10-yr Treasuries >4.75%

I put 2007 August in there for context since that was the last time before 2023 that yields on the 10 year were above 4.75%. Few windows to see >4.75% in the last 5 years but that's what the blue squares represent.

Question Inherited two sovereigns, and I’m looking for insight.

I received these two sovereigns from my late father. He passed away years ago so no need for condolences lol. I am a U.S. error/variety coin collector and I have no idea what I’m looking at when it comes to sovereigns.

I know certain years, mint marks will add value etc. I’m not looking to sell, rather understand the details about them. Other than knowing they are both 22 carat and are legitimate with sigma testing I’m looking to know if there’s anything I should be looking for?

The 1915-S is whats curious. I read that it’s a low mintage number for the year and mint mark.

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

I’m travelling to Thailand soon, I am wondering if anyone who has experienced the gold shops in Thailand mainly Bangkok.
Is it only 96.5% and the jewelery or will it be possible to find like 1g/5g 24k Pamp bars ?

This is just a test to see what happens when they raise prices to what they actually could hit in the failing of the dollar. It’s coming one way or another, start buying!!

I don’t know about you guys, but isn’t this article riding on a lot of what ifs? I’m posting this for others viewpoints, also, I’m not a ‘Look at the charts every hour person’ I’m holding until I need some funds or this happens lol.

Question Where do you buy your gold for lower premiums?

I'm new to buying gold and I have only bought from JM Bullion which seems to have a bit higher premiums than some other sellers I've seen, but I find them reputable.

So where do you guys buy your gold bars and how much premium are you willing to pay? Also what weights do you like to stack even if you are paying higher in premiums to do so?

Question Chain Repair Questions

Thumbnail
gallery
Upvotes

I have a thin (about 1.5-1.75mm) link chain made of 23k gold that upon coming home after a drunken night out I accidentally dropped into a surge protector outlet on my nightstand. It let out a bright spark and I was left with a snap and some singed links. I am lost on how to go about getting this repaired and I wanted to ask the community for advice.

  1. Would a jeweler be able to repair this, and what should I expect this to look like when repaired? Can I expect the singed links/the links that have been bent out of shape to be cleaned up? Is it possible for the repair to not have a visible seam?

  2. How much should I expect to spend (I’m based in NYC)? I don’t really have a frame of reference or ballpark figure on this - I’m willing to spend a decent bit of money for a quality repair, but I don’t want to get ripped off for being an uninformed consumer going with an unreasonable quote.

  3. How would I go about finding a good jeweler for a repair job like this? This is Indian gold for reference - should I go to a jeweler that specializes in Indian jewelry, or does that matter less than experience in other skills? If anyone happens to have recs for a jeweler in NYC that they think can handle a job like this, please let me know!

  4. Anything else I should know that I haven’t thought to ask about? I know practically nothing about fine jewelry and this chain means a lot to me so I really want to be thorough here.

Thanks friends!
