OG Series i feel like serena was always trapped in a ādamned if she does, damned if she doesnātā scenario with blair
listen i know a majority of this fanbase doesnāt like because of her victim mentality, lack of accountability, along with her sleeping with nate and dan, i get all of that. as a serena stan, all of that frustrates me as well.
however outside of that, i feel like serena could NEVER win with blair no matter what she did. she was trapped in a ādamned if she does, damned if she doesnātā dynamic with her.
blair constantly demanded serena to step down from everything so she could shine. if serena unintentionally attracted attention, blair would take it as an attack and accuse her of hogging the spotlight.
if serena held back or stepped back to let blair shine, blair would still spiral out of paranoia and accuse serena of being condescending or patronizing.
if serena takes a major opportunity that she either earned or was handed to her, blair would label her as entitled or lazy.
if she rejected it, blair would treat it as a slap in the face.
if serena stayed passive, blair viewed her as a passive aggressive threat. if serena stood up for herself, blair used it as proof that serena was some manipulative bully.
it genuinely didnāt matter whether or not serena was in the wrong because blair would view her as a villain regardless š

OG Series Just Finished watching Gossip Girl (for the first time!!)
First-time Gossip Girl watcher: my character opinions are probably going to get me attacked
I just finished Gossip Girl for the first time and I NEED to get these opinions out because some of these characters had me fighting for my life š
Vanessa : I HATED HER.
I genuinely could not stand her. And not even in a āsheās annoying but I eventually warmed up to herā way. Nope. I disliked her from the FIRST episode she appeared in and somehow she kept finding new ways to annoy me. I know people have complicated opinions about everyone on this show, but Vanessa was just⦠absolutely not for me.
Blair : LOVED HER.
And yes, I know she did some objectively terrible things. I am aware. But I was seated for every single Blair scene. She was dramatic, ambitious, petty, hilarious, occasionally unhinged, but also incredibly layered. I just enjoyed watching her. š¤·āāļø
Serena : HATED HER.
And I feel like the reasons are pretty obvious if you've watched the whole show. š I kept trying to understand her and then she would do something that immediately reminded me why I couldn't stand her. There were moments where I felt bad for her, but overall? Girl, PLEASE.
Nate : LOVED HIM.
Honestly, my unproblematic king. š Compared to everyone else, Nate was just out here trying to survive the absolute chaos surrounding him. Was he perfect? Obviously not. But after watching everyone else constantly scheme, lie, betray each other and make the worst possible decision, Nate was a breath of fresh air.
Chuck ..MIXED FEELINGS.
This man had me going through every possible emotion. I could understand why people loved him, and there were moments where I absolutely loved him too. But then he'd do something and I'd be like⦠yeah, never mind. š His character development was interesting, but I definitely couldn't just overlook everything because he occasionally did something nice.
Jenny: I LOVED JENNY.
And I will die on this hill.
She was literally a teenager. A TEENAGER. Watching the way everyone treated her sometimes made me so frustrated because she clearly needed guidance, stability and someone actually willing to parent her instead of just reacting to whatever she did after the fact.
Which brings me toā¦
Rufus .... I HATED HIM AS A PARENT.
I actually think Jenny is one of the characters who made me angriest because I kept thinking, someone please just help this girl??? She was a teenager thrown into an insane environment with basically unlimited access to adult drama, and instead of consistently guiding her, Rufus would often just get angry at the consequences.
Like sir, you are the parent. š
And the ending.... i did NOT like it!!!
Overall, this show was absolutely amazing and I loved/hated almost everyone at some point. But I'm genuinely curious what everyone else's first-watch opinions were.
Especially Jenny. I feel like people either defend her or absolutely cannot stand her.
XOXO š

OG Series Chuck is a one-note character
Now Iām going to start off by saying that Iām very much aware gossip girl isnāt some deep philosophical show, Iām very much aware of that.
Iāll also be fair and say that as much as I dislike Chuck, I wouldnāt say heās boring. He certainly has his moments even if I donāt particularly care for them. With that said Chuck is an empty character.
His āmotivationsā are extremely surface level. Sure, he has his very contrived daddy issues and the dead mom but I never bought it because the writers added that to story so the audience would feel bad for Chuck. Itās not organic therefore it comes off extremely manipulative.
Outside is very melodramatic family dynamics, he has no ambitions, hobbyās, or interests. Even Nate has his own aspirations as boring as he is. With Blair we know her favorite books and movies. Itās the small details that really help characters feel more fleshed and therefore the audience can connect with them. Chuck lacks his own identity outside of Blair.
Hopefully I was able to articulate my thoughts well. I know not everyone will agree and thatās fine lol.

OG Series I don't think Rufus was wrong for wanting "revenge" on cece
Just rewatched s1ep10 and honestly Rufus's revenge against Cece wasn't just "petty revenge" imo, what she said to Dan, what she did to Rufus with Lily was really awful. If it was just about Rufus and what happened in the past it would feel more like petty revenge but she was literally doing the same thing with Serena and Dan, he had every right to want to stuck Dan in her face and Dan should've gone with Serena. I'm sure he would've let Jenny go too if she had asked him, the issue was she didn't ask, she just went without telling anyone

OG Series Dan, Blair, Serena & Jenny
im on season 2 ep 15 of gossip girl for the first time and i honestly keep wonderings why dan is with serena when her best friend / friend group bullies his younger sister? i just keep thinking about how he or his dad is okay with this and letting it slide all the time.
esp Serena too. u would think she would actually get mad at Blair for being so mean to her boyfriends sister most of the time
