Discussion Why are all the human Green Lanterns American?
It doesn’t make sense that only 1 country has all the best candidates on Earth according to the alien Guardians.

In Episode 3 of Lanters, it's clear that the guardians are second guessing their regular selection process for choosing Green Lanterns, because while Sinestro was fearless, He was also evil, and that lead to the death of one of the Guardians. They're also worried about the apparent affection that Hal still holds for Sinestro because of their relationship as mentor and mentee.
So understandably, they want to change the selection system to prioritise loyalty, as well as fearlessness, and they want to replace Hal, because let's be real, he's a handful, and Sinestro's influence didn't help.
So if they're concerned about Hal's loyalty, due to his attachment to Sinestro, why would they have John train under Hal? If they want to replace Hal, they should just replace him right away, and have John trained by Kilowog

After the truly horrifying revelations and mentality displayed in the last episode of Lanterns I really want to know when Guy was inducted into the Corps. It has to be some time after 2016, there’s no way John’s parents heads wouldn’t explode seeing that haircut flying around after they spent 30 years emotionally abusing their children if he got it first.

I mean ability to create whatever you can will? Create a cryptonite cage and I'm done? I think they're weaker to maintain the strength hierarchy of super heroes right?

didn’t think it was enough of a gaudy eyesore so I redesigned it for shits and giggles (also ik it’s violet but come on that’s pink)

From what I understand, suits are constructs created by the ring. Keeping that in mind, people are saying the suit should look like it's made out of physical material (not like the Lanterns suit, though).
However, generally speaking, any constructs made by the ring appear in the form of green light, right? So if the suit is also meant to be a construct made by the ring, shouldn't it also appear as a green light construct?
I know people generally hate it but, according to the above logic, shouldn't the 2011 depiction of a GL suit be considered more accurate (sans weird toe boots)?
*NB: Excuse my ignorance, I'm new to anything related to Green Lantern*

Something I find funny about John’s mom. There’s a line in ep 3 of Lanterns where John’s mom (Bernie) says “even in space you don’t consider us” but here’s the outright laughable thing about that and what makes you realize how dumb the writing is In this episode in particular.
They did.
If you recall before Hal was even chosen the ring literally considered John’s father. He didn’t get it ofc because he proved unworthy but the point is he was considered making Bernie’s statement 100% false.

I’ve heard really great things about Johns’ Green Lantern run, but I’m assuming it’s filled with stuff that long time fans get to appreciate. I’m curious which runs would give me the most context for Johns’ run? Or which runs would be the best starting point?

With all this talk around “fear” I feel like it’s a foregone conclusion that we will Hal at some point get his Yellow Lantern powers…
It kind of feels like the show is painting the lack of fear as a weakness (without fear, there is no bravery). Johns parents raised him without a sense of fear and it messed him up. Hal is supposedly fearless but clearly fears being replaced. Maybe Sinestro gets the yellow ring and saves Hal from the Manhunter/Red Lanterns and brings him into the Sinestro Corps?
Not sure how they’d fit all of that into the story tho…we still haven’t seen any direct hint about the other Lantern Corps, or even Guy Gardner yet, and we’re nearly at the halfway point .
Sinestro may be my favorite character within the Green Lantern DC universe…would really love to see him actually suit up before the end of this season. I think Lindeloff series are more of a slow burn and then really go balls to the walls for the final episodes , so who knows.

Hey yall im really trying to get into green lantern mostly hal jordan and i'm just wondering where to start and what are some comics that do a good job at introducing me to the corps and all the other lanterns
r/Greenlantern • u/Thatcardgameguy • 9h ago
they said John’s brothers can’t be a lantern because they experienced fear . doesn’t this just go against the whole idea of being a lantern ?
the idea was to overcome fear not wether or not you’ve ever been afraid? also shooting apples off his head to make him invulnerable to fear?
would a ring choose someone who’s “ incapable “ of fear instead of someone who can overcome it?

While I don't mind Hal's suit in Lanterns being a physical fabric uniform, the actual design and "look" of his suit bothers me. It looks too much like armor, it's too bulky (especially in the shoulders) and the logo is too small. I just don't think that a GL suit should look like or be actual armor.
And while I like the idea behind Reynolds 2011 uniform: it being a sort of construct that the ring can summon instantly, most of the time, the CG suit looks way too fake and rubbery.

This is the main theme, for reference
Like, if you listen to the track posted on YouTube, it's painfully obvious that those are just three completely different songs cobbled together into one track
The music heard in this clip seems to be the full (or at least, a further along) version of that first section of that track, and lowkey, they should've just made that the main theme
I mean, that part just captures both the space and the mystery vibes of the show quite well and sounds so much better as a standalone
That should've been the main theme, not them mashing together three tracks only connected through sharing a leit motif and with no real transition

I came into my love for Green Lantern during Kyle's introduction, and I kinda gleaned a little bit of the history from future runs, but things have changed so much, now, I'm not even sure what parts of my memory are new stuff what parts are original, and what stuff I just assumed or made up.
Now, watching the Lanterns show, my wife keeps asking me questions about John and Guy in the comics and I've realized, I don't actually know!
How were they originally introduced, and what is their current story as to how they're Lanterns?

With the popularity of the new series, I felt it was time to revisit an idea I had a while back. I have a ring collection from when I was a kid, but the 2011 rings no longer fit my adult hands. Say what you will about that movie but I always adored its aesthetic choices especially when it came to the ring.
With a dremel, a small blade, a heat gun, sand paper, and a LOT of patience so as not to dig too deep, I finally got it to a wearable size! I have an unaltered one for comparison! I love how the darker plastic makes it blend in with my outfits and I legit might wear this one around town like I did when I was a kid!

So, if I understand this correctly, Green Lanterns are a galactic peacekeeping force who use 3D hardlight generators that can, depending on the level of concentration and willpower, create a wide variety of constructs, allow the user to fly, bend space time, amongst other effects.
My question is this: why would you make a weapon powered by willpower and concentration?
If I walked into NYPD headquarters tomorrow and announced that their new handguns are connected to neural implants that measure their willingness to shoot, level of concentration and that the trigger bar will literally be locked up if certain thresholds aren’t met, I would be laughed out of the building.
Making them dependent on willpower alone is dangerous. It risks that strongwilled but otherwise unsuitable candidates are found.
Hal was corrupted and turned into Parallax. Guy joined the Red Lanterns.
Why didn’t Ganthet give the Corps an energy device that just works with simple mental commands? Like Marvels Nova Corps?
Of course, concentration would still dictate the power output but you wouldn’t need to hyper focus on one mental characteristic all the time.

I've seen a couple of creators remark how Lanterns has brought in a "new concept" to the mythos of John having a genetic background to make him a good Green Lantern. Trying to say that there might be more cosmic lore building to other races in the universe, or that Earth was seeded with individuals with strong wills or a specific DNA marker. I personally don't think this is as deep as they want to make it out to be, and that it's a bullshit line said by Lianna since this is they seemingly have never had something like this happen before. The concept of scaring the crap out of potential candidates, seemingly lower life forms such as humans is a new thing to the Guardians. I think she fed that line to John's mother since she had a newborn that hadn't yet been shaped by it's experiences in life, and by telling her that, it was the best way to try an experiment to a potentially perfect, fearless Green Lantern in the future that wouldn't disobey orders.

I'm very interested in Emerald twilight and I think I want to read that before Geoff Johns, but I have no idea if its a good idea to start there or with the run that leads up to it
