Just finished up my latest offset Tele for a friend. Roasted maple neck, stainless steel frets, butterscotch nitro finish with a medium relic (his request). Bootstrap Pretzel pickups and a 4-way switch for neck and bridge in series. Plays and feels killer! Happy to answer any questions.

Look at this! What’s up with this SG jr?

I’m trying to figure out the ye art of this SG jr. and figure out if it’s a real Gibson. the pickguard has clearly been replaced, i think there should be a screw hole under the pickguard near where I circled if it’s legit. The pots seem to date to 1965 but the serial number is slightly more inconclusive. No date or anything on the pickup.

one thing that throws me is the dot in the “i” of the Gibson logo is touching the “G” but I’ve read that it’s not uncommon on old gibsons to have wonky “i” dots due to the silk screen process.

the headstock does have “wings”, and the tuners seem correct (Kluson Deluxe) so that’s another reason I’m leaning toward it probably being real.

I’m waiting on pictures from under the pickguard.

any other thoughts?

ESP Viper clone kit that I put together and finished, drilled and routed all holes and cavities, leveled and dressed the frets.

Mahogany body, maple neck, ebony fretboard, 25.5" scale. The finish was done by applying different shades of green Angelus leather dye with a wadded up piece of paper in multiple layers.

Pickup is a humbucker made from two AlNiCo 8-loaded P90s that I wound myself and created the custom 3d printed cover. It measures 24.5k ohms. The toggle switch goes from single P90 (down) or both humbucking (up), essentially like a traditional humbucker coil split.

Pickguard, control plate, and truss rod cover are all cut from an old junk vinyl record.

Playing through a clean amp, dual fuzz/distortion pedal, and 1x12 cab, all built by me.

This thing sustains for weeks.

Yes... it's Satch with hair in 88 playing with MJ. NOT THAT MJ... I'd like to just say these are Strats, but they look more Charvel than Fender... the white one looks like a 2020 Charvel in 1988.

Let me know if you know what they are!

Sound Check EQ pedal for jamming with keyboard player

Hi all,

So my youngest has a Kurzweil PC2-x keyboard (no on-board sound) that we're currently running through a small, mostly featureless Ampeg bass combo amp. My oldest and I (both guitar players) are playing through a Fender DeVille. I was jamming with my youngest last night and realized when we get into it (especially with a lot of the cool voices the Kurzweil offers) we're stepping all over each other's frequencies. It sounds like garbage and makes the guitars difficult to follow.

With the keyboard going through a bass amp, it sounds awesome in the low end but kind of anemic in the highs. My guitar is fighting real hard for mids but mostly getting washed out by the keys, but I try to keep my mids reasonable (especially on that monster of an amp) so humans can still think and speak when I'm playing. That leaves some high end room for me but with just a treble knob it feels like I'm not able to be as delicate with the frequency hunt as I'd like.

We're on the hunt for better solutions for amplifying the keyboard but in the meantime I was thinking a 7 or 10 band EQ pedal might be a cost effective way to help find the freqs I need to cut through without stepping on my kid's sound.

Reality is that Kurzweil can probably solve the problem all by itself but I don't have a degree in niche, bleeding edge keyboards from 1999 so I'm afraid to mess with it too much.

Back when I was a more active musician I played metal (used a Boss MT-2 and a tuner) and blues (used onboard gain and a tuner) so I never really had much experience with pedals in general. In my old age I'm experimenting with them a lot more, but I've never used an EQ pedal at all before so I don't know what I don't know. Would a dedicated EQ pedal be a good idea here, or are there some obvious answers I'm missing?

Help LP Has Sweet Musty Smell. How do I remove it?

Upvotes

As the title suggests I just bought a beautiful 2008 Les Paul Traditional but it seems to have this sweet almost musty smell to it…sorta like musty vanilla. The guitar was displayed out in the shop on a stand but the smell seems to be the worst coming from the case. It’s not a bad smell it’s just a very sweet smell (kinda like old vape juice) and it keeps getting stuck to the stuff around my apartment. Has anyone dealt with this before and found a way to remove it?

NGD! N(TM)GD Ibanez S521OFM

Picked this Ibanez S521OFM from a pawn for $200. It came with some Seymour Duncan pickup set, which I believe are the hot-rodded set, but I could be wrong. Would anyone know what set they are?

From the pawn straight to my luthier for a set up. He worked his magic and she plays great. The hardware is faded and the body is pristine...wondering if I should replace the hardware or keep it as is.

Just wanted to show my latest guitar. Hope y'all having a good one!

I just dug my stuff out of storage and wanted to show it to some people that would appreciate it.
I am the original owner of the guitar, amp, and crybaby. The Danelectro pedals were a store demo that they let me purchase when I worked there. I bought the Boss pedals used.
Guitar - ‘92 Washburn MG-104 Iridescent Green (rare)
Amp - Peavey Bandit 112 Silver Stripe
Pedals - Danelectro Cool Cat (18v), Danelectro Fab Tone, Danelectro Daddy-O, Boss Super Feedbacker & Distortion DF-2, Boss Flanger BF-2, Dunlop Crybaby Wah 535Q.
Let me know what you think!

Help Any ideas of what this is from?

I have no clue what this is from. Came in a case alongside a guitar that I bought from GC. It has staggered pole pieces. No cloth wiring so it’s not “vintage” or a modern boutique vintage pickup. If anyone recognizes the markings and can help, I would appreciate it.

Repairs $50 pick up from OfferUp. A BYO kit worth like $160 (His words). Looks like a kinda hollow body Les Paul body make up. Gotta rewire it. He stained it, didn’t finish it. Got any tips on repairing/finishing this guitar? Pick ups listed in the last picture.

The guy said he shielded it well, didn’t ground it properly he’s not the best at wiring. I do wiring for my job at times and have been soldering most of my adult life (not frequently but enough to know what i’m doing, had to learn for my profession). Questions in the comments

I was gifted this Danelectro yesterday by my neighbor who was on her way to donate it to Goodwill. I’ve been playing 25 years+ but have never owned a Danelectro. Anyone have any idea what model it may be? Basic Google search is telling me it could be a Stock ‘59? But if anyone knows for sure, I’d appreciate the help. Thanks

Help Has anyone tried the Combine Guitars headless DIY kits?

I've been wanting to build myself a headless guitar for quite some time now but I'm still hesitant to build the actual body and neck, so I've been searching incessantly for good offers on standalone body + neck or complete DIY kits, and right now I'm almost convinced of buying a kit from Combine Guitars, but I struggle to find opinions online, specially recent ones, since it seems a few months ago their models have been slightly redesigned.

So, has anyone owned/built one of them? What was your experience?

Hey guys. I’m an early intermediate player and I’m looking to move on from a Squier Mini strat and unbranded amp. I’m looking to purchase a Squier Sonic (full sized) and the Fender LT25 amp when I do acquire the funds. Any advice or comments on these?

Flip flop gold to purple paint. All good hardware, gotoh locking tuners, HH setup with a 5 way switch and another mini toggle that gives 5 more time selections that I honestly haven't figured out just yet lol

Brought it home, took crusty strings off, cleaned the guitar, conditioned the fretboard, polished the frets, slapped some gold strings on it, and she's looking purdy rn!

What yall think? I think it sounds good but I know absolutely nothing about these “superstrat” guitars.
Made in Korea & Duncan designed humbuckers with a Floyd Roseish bridge & locking nut.

Got bored of the plain look, so I decided to go full cel-shaded / COV style using literally just a white corrector pen and a metal scratch tool.

Outlined the pickguard, control plate, bridge, and body edges to give it that 2D comic depth, then threw on some cross-hatching, tallies, and chaotic stuff. the back dedicated to etching my debut EP tracklist.

It’s definitely raw and DIY, but the contrast in person (and on camera) is wild. What do you guys think? Did i ruin my guitar?
