You are asking in the gl sub how to stop smashing as a db main??

I heard that GL and Lance players do it too!

We don't.

Our moves either have high commitment, require specific input or they just end after the 3rd press.

Dude, are you just posting this to every single Monster Hunter community possible?

EDIT: Fuck, yes you are. r/mhwilds r/greatsword r/huntinghorn r/lancemains r/mhdualblades

Hey sorry if that annoyed you. I figured that not many people are as interested in every weapon like I am. Plus, I like supporting everyone.

One of my friends told me that I play as a “support DB main” because I’m always buffing the groups in every hunt. You should see how much demon powder and hardshell powder I use!

Sorry if cross posting was an issue. Just trying to include everyone.

It just came across as spammy, you know?

But seriously, I barely use those powders because I run Wide-Range 5 with DBs. Got a Protective Polish 3/WR4 talisman, so I just use that for both sharpness management and healing and buffing. I keep Gogmazios quests afloat.

Yeah I see that now. I just really value the community’s opinion. This is my first MH game and it’s quickly becoming my fav game of all time. I’m drinking the kool-aid and loving it, but maybe I need to slow my roll.

I used to run wide-range too! One of my DB “coaches” taught me to leave that to SnS and HH players, just focus on DPS. I’ve leaned into that identity and just work really hard to be the big damage dealer on the team.

I've been there. I picked up the series about a week before Wilds launched and have like 4000 hours, have made a nature documentary, a ton of other videos, and even have a Dual Blades hype montage video scheduled for tomorrow.

I love this series, and it's easy to get really into it.

I typically disagree with people who say 'leave healing to SNS and HH players' because the problem is 'what if they don't show up?' or don't care enough to bother healing people? DPS is overall higher when everyone is alive.

Wow! 4,000 hours is serious! I’m around 1,200 or so and feel like I’m just scratching the surface. With MH, replayability is off the charts for me.

I’d love to support your content! Send some links along and I’ll hop on the bandwagon!

Sure thing!

My nature documentary

I don't know how much you care about spoilers for World and Rise, so I don't want to send my music compilations where I put music to Monster Hunter monsters.

Thank you! The Dual Blades hype montage will be out in about 21 hours, 11 AM Eastern time.

Yeah, it sounds like we have this issue in every weapon category.

Wrong chat dude. We GL mains have one maybe two combos to use on repeat so we don't get to button mash. Especially given the combos we use are so short.

When I play event quests and DB’s aren’t available, I’ve always gone to GL… lo and behold, I jump straight into button mashing! After a few secs it’s clear that I need to chill out.

I think this is the biggest takeaway from the community discussion on this topic. (I cross posted it and heard from a lot of communities.) Other weapons don’t have this issue as much, so it could be good for me to learn other weapons and reset my habits.

press buttons slower and deliberate, look up some combos and maybe practice them a short while.

Practice the combos in the training area and get comfortable with the weapon. Then hunt easier monsters and get more comfortable.

Yeah I’m hearing that as a theme- just slow down, take your time, lessen some of the pressure on yourself, and practice.

I’m at HR 700 and feel like “if I can’t get this right, how will I get other weapons right”, ya know? I really wanna delve into GL and SwAx, but have held back for this reason.

I learned GL by playing defensively then the better I got the more aggressive I became and fully mastered it. Gunlance main forever now. You’ll get it just comes with time and reps.

Thanks friend, appreciate the vote of confidence

So, admittedly, DB is one of my least used weapons. I play all of them, but main GL, SnS and CB.

DB is one of the easiest to button mash with because the hits don't correlate to the presses very well. Each Y press in each mode is different amount of strikes from your character. You'll want to go into the training room and time that out.

GL doesn't really have that problem. The inputs are fairly simple and you're not constantly slamming the buttons. Hell, GLs main combo is 4 button presses over the course of like 10 seconds.

I've just recently picked up SwAxe but loving it. It's a little on the slower side so mashing doesn't really benefit you.

I would recommend taking a monster you know best, finding the weakest version of it, and going and just hunting it consistently until you get a feel for the weapon you want.

That’s a good idea. I’ve been holding myself back from jumping into other weapons because I feel I haven’t perfected one yet, but maybe I just need to loosen up and enjoy them all (or at least more).

That said, I can’t wait to move back to GL. I really like playing defense and hitting hard when the time is right.

It's better to tap the button a few times on certain moves to make it come out as early as possible. Other times like guard points for example, you'd want a well-timed tap.

If you're getting lost in the combos then you're definitely overdoing it. Why still mash when you know you need to dodge soon? That's not a mashing issue that's not recognizing how long your attack windows are.

How are you button mashing when every attack on Gunlance has a wind up?

I’ve seen the issue primarily when I’m on DB’s, and heard from a Lance main that he / she has the same issue. (See the r/MHWilds thread where it was originally posted.)

I’ve heard from the GL, SnS, CB, HH, and other weapon mains that I should spend more time with those to reset my thinking.
