Question Who Wants to Help Recover a Stolen Bike?

My bike was stolen out of my apartment building's bike lockup. It's now appeared on FB Marketplace.

There is an active case about it that has been updated. The listing was removed today.

Can anyone help me recover this? Does anyone know Pop Grizz? He didn't steal it but he is fencing it.

Question Takeout near Connecticut Children’s NICU at UCONN (Farmington)

Hi r/Hartford,

I don’t live in the area and haven’t for years, but a close childhood friend has had a premature baby who will be in the NICU for the next several weeks. I’d like to get mom and dad some gift cards to restaurants nearby the hospital to help support them while their baby is there— do you have any recommendations for quick, easy, and reasonably healthy options?

Question Queer scene in hartford?

Born and raised in nyc, but unfortunately I've been priced out. Thinking about moving to hartford.

Being around other queer people is important to me, so how is the queer scene in hartford? Are there events that queer ppl can get together and feel safe?

Question Any place to play pickleball as a beginner

I'm in Farmington and I played pickleball once in uni. I'm pretty competitive and it really gets me going. Any place where I can play nearby? I am having a tough time finding places (and people) to play with. I just moved here so I'm looking for others in the same boat as myself.

Thanks!

Friends of Barnard Park Introduction

Good evening Hartford residents. I wanted to take this time to share with you a wonderful development occurring in the South Green neighborhood of Hartford. The park in that neighborhood between Main & Wyllys is known as Barnard Park and while unfortunately it has long been neglected, eight months ago a grass roots movement of neighbors started and has begun work! The summary is this:

  • Love Your Block grant application
  • We made ourselves a website
  • Love Your Block grant won
  • Had to amend our original plans due to infrastructure issues
  • Vendor signed on and money deposited
  • Discussions with other revenue sources for further work have begun

Now that work is beginning on the park, we felt it necessary to further our efforts in our social media campaigns/online presence to garner further interest. Hence the creation of our new Subreddit r/FriendsofBarnardPark, a page entirely dedicated to the South Green's beautiful triangle of green space. On this page we're hoping to hear from Hartford residents about issues and suggestions, while also being able to communicate with you how to get involved and what our progress currently is.

If you're interested, you can sign up for our newsletter at friendsofbarnardpark.org/contact, we'll be posting our events and construction updates on our Facebook page (linked below) and here on Reddit, so we can reach all interested individuals where they spend their time online.

Derm suggestions needed

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a dermatologist in West Hartford or nearby who is truly excellent and thorough. I’m willing to travel a reasonable distance if the doctor is worth it.
I’m not just looking for someone who will spend five minutes at the appointment, give a quick prescription, and send me home. I’d really appreciate recommendations for a dermatologist who:

•Takes time to do a careful examination and listen to the full history

•Investigates possible underlying or contributing causes rather than only treating symptoms

•Explains their reasoning, diagnosis, treatment options, and potential side effects clearly

•Is thoughtful, detail-oriented, and does not rush patients

Thank you!!!

Any plans for Old Vito by the park?

I'd love for that place to be a restaurant/ cafe again, looking at the park. I work downtown and so many times we pass by thinking how nice would that be.

Or right before a show at the Bushnell. Does anyone know anything about that building? Any plans? Any leads?

Prospect Ave

Anyone have thoughts on why there are speed humps in front of the mansions on Prospect by the Governor's mansion, but there isn't a single crosswalk on the section of Elizabeth park, despite paths / trails continuing on both sides ?

Bushnell Park

Anybody know what’s going on with the Bushnell Park? It seems like its glory is fading. It looks unkempt and on an overall downward slide. I’ve been in Hartford since 2022, I really liked and looked forward to Capital Groove but that was shortlived…

Arunan? Anyone? Lol

Hi! Hoping to get some help in finding someone who can retwist my son's hair.... like yesterday. My standards aren't super high. Just need a refresh on his twists. Someone who accepts walk-ins or last-minute appointments would be good because we need this done yesterday. TIA

book club/crime documentary club

hi everyone! i’m a 25 y/o female living in hartford, ct who loves watching crime documentaries and reading books. i’ve been thinking about creating a girls club where we can meet up for coffee/food, chat about books, and maybe even discuss crime documentaries!

i’d especially love to watch documentaries/cases that have different perspectives on what happened, like the mackenzie shirilla case. we could discuss whether we think she did/didn’t do it, what evidence stood out to us, different theories, etc.

comment if you’d be interested and i can create a group chat so we can get the ball rolling! ☕️📚🕵🏻‍♀️ i think this would be a fun way to meet new people with common interests!

Question Social clubs/activities/volunteer opportunities for someone looking to move past their anxiety?

I was just wondering if anyone here knew if there were any opportunities for someone with a lot of social anxiety and insecurities to leave their bubble and connect with others in some way.

I don't live in Hartford myself so I don't know where or how to look for something like this, this post is on behalf of a family friend who feels very depressed and isolated. I'm in a similar boat where I live but I started volunteering at a food bank and it's helped me a lot so I'm hoping it could help them out as well.

Money and transportation are an issue so it would preferably be in the Little Italy area if possible but it's not a hard no if it's further out. They're a young adult woman with an interest in cooking/baking, gardening, animals, and they're very socially conscious even if they're not fully comfortable being around strangers yet. Some sort of group or club or even a low stakes/low responsibility volunteering position could be helpful. I reached out to the Angel of Edgewood but I never got a response but maybe I'll try again next week, if anyone has worked with them before any info in what it's like over there could be helpful too.

Thanks in advance.
