I’m looking for some horror games to play in October but can’t seem to find any i find interesting that will take around 6 hours maximum to finish. I already have crow country, my friendly neighborhood and shift at midnight. Any suggestions?

Usually in survival-horror games, the player has to collect useful items and resources as they explore their surroundings, before going back to the safe room to save; heal; manage their stocked and carried inventory; and exit to resume exploration.

But what if the game had an expedition system like Darkest Dungeon ? Here's a summary for those who haven't played it:

• For starters, you can buy whatever consumables provision you need before starting an expedition with your money. This phase is already in line with inventory management systems of survival-horror games : bring not enough provisions, and you risk the (mental) health of your heroes, bring too much and you risk loosing money (unused provisions are refunded at a greatly reduced price after the expedition, and having a full inventory limits how much loot you can carry with you). You can find some torches and food during expeditions, but it's recommanded to not rely on that and treat these findings as bonuses.
• As you explore and fight, you can find resources, including the aforementioned money. This resource is not only used to buy provisions, but also heal and upgrades your heroes. There's gold coins, citrine, emerald, sapphires and other more special loot, with varying rarity, unitary value and stack-ability. Sometimes, you'll be forced to discard one of your loot type to make room for something more useful at the moment. There's also heirlooms, a secondary currency used to upgrade the Hamlet's buildings.
• Provision can also be used while interacting with curios to gain some benefits (stats boosts, stress heal, removing a negative quirk, or simply more loot). This adds another layer of strategy to the inventory management : Should I use my shovel to dig this urn and gain some gold, or conserve it later to remove an obstacle ?
• Loot is completely useless during expeditions, but once you get back to the Hamlet, it can be used to heal and upgrades your heroes, upgrade the town's facilities, and buy provisions for the next expedition.

Would it be interesting to have a survival-horror game where you can buy all the provisions you need from the safe room, primarily finding money during expeditions instead of consumables, and upgrading your character once back in your safe place? Is there any examples of horror games that have tried this already?

The problem is, there's a creature outside.

It doesn't make footsteps.
It doesn't knock.
It doesn't chase you.

It just appears at different windows and watches.

You have to keep cleaning while constantly checking the windows. If you don't spot it in time, it finds your son.

I wanted to make a short horror game built around that feeling of "I know something is watching me, but I don't know where."

Out of all of these, I think I prefer stuff like SOMA, Alien: Isolation and Amnesia the most.

I really like horror games where you actually feel vulnerable, have to hide/run from things, explore creepy environments, and slowly figure out what’s going on. I’m more into the atmosphere and tension than just constant jumpscares.

Some games I’m already thinking about trying:
Visage
Layers of Fear
Fatal Frame 2 (but it’s still kinda expensive, so probably gonna wait for a sale)
Bramble: The Mountain King
Routine
Amnesia: Rebirth
MADiSON

What else would you guys recommend? Doesn’t necessarily have to be exactly like SOMA or Alien: Isolation, but I’d love something with a similar feeling.

It is $10 on steam. I truly had low expectation but i am BLOWN away. The premise is simple, you are in a pitch black catacomb, the only light source is your flashlight. Fight your way out.

The gunplay is extremely smooth. I really hope this dev can make more games using this style of gunplay because i am ADDICTED. It feels like that game body cam almost. The weapons have heft to them and the way your character is animated to swing them around themselves really adds to the immersion. The movement and gunplay really adds a physicality to the game. You feel like you have a physical presence in this space.

And the combat is so meaty. From videos it might not look like much but its a totally different ball game once you're actually controlling it. For $10 it is fantastic, and you will know if you love it or hate it long before the steam refund window ends.

Mannequin from Silent Hill 2. For some reason I was terrible at predicting their movements. Usually good at it, not with them tho.

Im just so curious why writers have to JUST write bad endings for characters or stories, its so boring to me. Its like they dont even have any writing skill cause after all that baggage and stuff you make that person go through you go ahead and give them the most bland white girl starbucks vanilla bean frappucino Walmart Brainfart ending so you can call it realism or its 'it MakEs sense!' And sometimes these people force plot twists out there ass so it can look deep when in reality ITS AS DEEP as my PIMPLES

I REALLY HATE. HATEE how a majority of the horror games I play: Outlast,Manhunt, Cry of Fear, Fear and Hunger, Until dawn and etc always seem to have bad endings.

I dont know why but these developers or just the game in generals piss me off, oh sure throw me the same aesthetic again and again and expect me to like it. The only reason you scare me is cause you catch me off guard. It feels soulless every game of that feels the same and never felt original to me i HATE these type of endings. I hate it so much, the need for realism so your story can just fit the themes better and we have to ask others for the real lesson and quote on quote 'ReAl mEaNInG' or 'what were they supposed to do?' Mf, they were doing insane shit before your telling me your reverting it back to realism cause you want to make a message??

Im SO done with these games and iam so DONE fighting these people who keep telling me the same thing.....

Can anyone tell me why horror games do this? Why? WHY?? I dont want to hear its cause its the easier way I want an actual reason. Im ao done with people telling me they did it cause its easier Because what do you mean they didnt put effort in the ending but they put effort for the lore of some SIDE CHARACTER? please tell me. For any game. Or just in general.
