Of course everyone’s entitled to their own opinion but they legitimately look like they stepped out of westeros and have dragons as their favorite pet animal

I could watch these 2 speak High Valyrian all day.

One of the weirdest writing choices in HOTD is how Aegon and Helaena basically do not have a relationship on screen. They have ONE actual conversation in the entire show, and now Helaena is dead, so that's literally it.

And they didn't need to be some loving romantic couple. In the book, they're not portrayed as hating each other either. Aegon listens to Helaena and there's at least the sense that these two actually have a marriage and relationship beyond simply existing in the same family.

The stairwell scene after Blood and Cheese is probably the saddest example. They see each other after their child has just been brutally murdered, both clearly look like they want to say something, and Aegon ultimately walks away while Helaena looks hurt. It's a good scene in isolation, but it's also insane that this is basically all we get between two parents grieving their murdered child. They never actually talk about Jaehaerys. Aegon never consoles her. Helaena never consoles him. Nothing.

Then later Helaena confronts Aemond about burning Aegon, as if we're supposed to understand that she cares about what happens to him. And maybe she does! But where was that relationship? Where was that care ever shown?

I'm not asking for some great Aegon/Helaena romance. I just wanted them to be allowed to have a relationship at all. They were siblings, husband and wife, king and queen, and the parents of a murdered child. There was so much complicated material there, and the show barely touched any of it. Very strange creative choice.

Why would I oppose the daughter of the king who was named heir in the sights of the lords of the realm and steadfastly recognized as such?

Should I oppose her because she’s hesitant about making decisions that can subject thousands of lives to brutal deaths?

Should I oppose her for actively challenging the man named King against the late King’s wishes? Should I oppose her for not standing by idly and letting her inheritance be stolen against the King’s wishes?

Or should I oppose her because she sees ruling as a duty to the realm and cares to protect the realm from darkness according to the prophecy she was made to believe?

How do I blame her for becoming more assertive and even cruel when everyone she loves seems to be taken away from her due to a war she didn’t start?

I'm not sure if it's just me. I was super disappointed in the show runners decision, to have Helaena ride her dragon for the smallest snippet of a dream, and it never came to fruition! In the books, she says one of her greatest joys is riding dreamfyre. They took that away from her in the show, and I would have just loved to see Helaena riding her dragon with joy a few times at least.

Someone on social media claimed that George R. R. Martin posted 3 different timelines for Rhaenyra
Targaryen
on his blog (Not A Blog). According to
them, the first timeline went like this:

1. She married a Lannister and had no children.

2. She married a Strong and had 3 children.

3. She married Laenor and had 3 bastards.

...and in every single timeline, her throne was stolen.
Is there any truth to this claim, or is it just pure fan-fiction / a misinformed rumor? Has GRRM ever mentioned writing alternate versions of her story like this?

I've seen 3 dragon scenes talked about the most:

1. Stormcloud's death
2. The Cannibal during the sowing
3. The other dragons during the Gullet

I was wondering if there are any other dragon scenarios that would've elevated the show.

Personally I would've loved to swap out Meleys in the dragonpit for Aegon circling King's Landing on Sunfyre after his coronation

It's been lingering in my mind for a while, and I've been pondering whether this post would look absolutely crazy. So please, critise this as you may.

I strongly believe that Rhaena and Sheepstealer will reunite but not in the way most people would think. Rhaena accompanied by Daemon or Baela take Rhaena back to Sheepstealer's lair. They find him in horrible condition, curled up, wounds still steaming. (Note: I know this doesn't really make sense seeing how Sunfyre got fucked up but still somehow lived, compared to what Sheepstealer had to go through, but the nonsensical writing must go on). Rhaena finds a clutch of his eggs, one seemingly a shimmering pink colour with ripples of obsidian black. Rhaena pressed her face against Sheepstealer who is assumed to be dying (let the writers do with him as they please). Rhaena takes the eggs back to the Vale, where she is forced back into the care of Jeyne Arryn, since Rhaenyra can't stand to even look at her at this point of the story. The rest of the story plays out, Morning hatches, blah blah.

For Daeron's case, his character is already in shambles. As much as I want him to die in battle, I don't think thats the way the writer's are going to pave his arc. I believe that Daeron will survive Second Tumbleton and lives under a new name. No one knows who Daeron is or what he looks like except for Bold Jon, Gwayne and a few higher ranking members of Ormund's Army. Daeron Targaryen could easily pass as a Hightower, specifically Garmund Hightower, and his marriage to Rhaena is pretty much already hinted at. This can also explain his tolerance to the prescence of Morning when they get married, and why Tessarion was so irritated when Seasmoke and Addam arrived; because Daeron was probably in a pile of ash and wood.

I simply can’t wait 2 years for another update to the series, just bought the book tonight gonna start reading it tomorrow and compare the differences and mostly just find out what happens

According to F&B, the Storming of the Dragonpit which kills most of the dragons occurs around the end of the 5th moon of 130 AC. Rhaenyra then flees the city on foot, seeking refuge at loyal castles until she’s no longer welcome. This period apparently lasts around 4-5 months, before she finally is able to find transport to take her….well, you know.

But that’s a long time! I find it strange that no army or allies were available or that nothing was done or no plans were hatched by anyone —- for months. That’s almost as long as she was ruling in Kings Landing.

Anyone have any insights into this period or theories on how the show will address it, if at all?

In the first season, the wind vane is blowing aft, which in a car, means you’re driving fast. In a wind-powered ship, it means you’re moving backwards.

Frequently, these wooden ships feature open flames in every form, which is pure insanity.

It’s hard to ignore.

When Aemond is fighting off the 3 bandits, one of the bandits grabs Alys from behind, and it looks like he’s about to either hold her hostage or slice her. However, a few seconds later that same bandit is running toward Aemond, leaving Alys free and unharmed. What?

Did he just change his mind? Or did he actually “kill” her off-screen, but she didn’t die because she’s immortal? It was all very confusing

So in battle above gods eyes since both Aemond and daemon and their dragons died people call it a draw. But idk because caraxes vs vhagar was definitely a draw they killed each other but daemon killed Aemond and since Aemond isn’t the one who killed daemon does it count as daemon winning that fight because Aemond didn’t kill him it was the fall

They are privileged princes and princesses. When you think about it, there is nothing to pity them about when they are responsible for thousands of deaths in this stupid civil war. Misogyny in the court? At least you have a bed to sleep on, imagine women on the Street of Silk. Losing an eye? People lose their limbs every day yet they have to scramble for a living.

I want to see Storming of the Dragonpit, and will be happy to see this family die.

Longtime ASOIAF reader here but chose to change things up and watch this series before reading the book. I get that one of GRRM’s underlying themes throughout the history of Westeros is that it’s pretty much always run by spoiled, petulant, unqualified folks. Viserys was not a good king - he was weak and spineless, but his actions were at least consistent with that. Throughout 3 seasons I still have no idea what Rhaenyra’s true ambitions are. She makes terrible decision after terrible decision - even after a whole season of indecision (s2). She’s extremely unlikeable. And yet, who are we to root for? Some of GRRM’s best written characters are the villains and antiheroes of the series - The Hound, Tywin Lannister, Littlefinger, etc. And this series has plenty of compelling characters - Daemon, Cristin Cole, Otto Hightower, Aemond, are some of my favorites. I’m just not understanding how Rhaenyra just comes off so weak and useless every scene, and yet so foolish and reckless (like with her 3 bastards) and contradictory to her previous actions. Obviously the show is following her arc from the book, but does the book at least give more explanation as to how she ended up this way? Millie Adcock seems like she was playing a totally different character early on
