Misc Need Humankind 2

I just want to take a minute and express appreciation for how good this game is. Disappointing it never gained as much traction as Civ has in its lifetime and I’ll be severely disappointed if a Humankind 2 never gets made.

HK might be one of my favorite strategy games, but the end game never seemed as fun as the first half. I wish there were some tweaks to the end game to make it more fulfilling. But I suppose Civ has the same kinds of problems.

I guess only time will tell...

The studio are just releasing Endless Legend 2, I would expect a sequel in due course, but not in a hurry.

I agree it's a great game though.

I hate EL2 and loved humankind.

What would you like to see on HK2? I've recently started to play HK after many years playing Civ VI and, for me, is a fresh start. I'm enjoying it a lot. Since looks like you've spend more time in HK, i ask, again, what would you like to see on HK2?

I would like to see elements of Civ enter the game such as natural disasters and the ability to build dams, canals, etc to expand on the way we play.

I would like stealth units to get a rework because I don’t think they work very well currently.

Of course I would also like more cultures because you can never have too many to choose from.

There’s plenty more I’d like to see added and/or removed but one thing I don’t really want to change is the art style of the game because it’s done so well I think.

Aren’t those more the kind of changes and additions you’d expect from a DLC or expansion pack rather than a sequel? (I understand development on HK1 is pretty much done though)

They are but like you said development is done and I think HK does so much better than Civ and or other historical 4X and would simply like to see them build on what works in a second game.

  1. A minimap
  2. A camera zoom that doesn't reset every time something happens
  3. A "ding" sound effect that happens not when clicking next turn, but when the turn cycle is finished and I can act again
  4. A affinity icon for each AI civ banner in the top (green happy face - we are friends, etc)
  5. A notification system that doesn't feel sluggish

Diplomacy is really basic

I'd like to see win conditions other than Fame. The end game feels meaningless when one faction is ahead in Fame and also so much of gameplay in early eras is about manipulating Fame generation

Just like in Civ 7, I would like to have the optionz but not requirement, to continue with a culture between ages. Give it some minor buff so it stays competitive, but not enough that it nullifies the choice of changing. Make it where the value of the new culture's unique buildings or units still give them an edge.

Isnt that already in the game?

Been binging the game recently and it has a lot of good moments, really. The narrator is pretty awesome, almost never got tired of the banter

I'm in the same boat. I keep playing it because it's so good, but if they ever made a Humankind 2 that sands off some of the rough edges (especially late-game diplomacy) I would buy it in an instant!

2026-08-25 Edit: I bet the devs saw this post and were giggling knowing what was coming next week!

When Amp was under Sega, there was an article that indicated that Sega's CEO would support a HK2.

With the MBO, and Amp working on EL2, I think it would be quite improbable for a HK2 to be developed before the end of this decade, if at all.

I would easily settle for an expansion of HK, but with the last update being a custom scenario, we could either be optimistic that they are working on an expansion with the skeleton crew keeping the game alive, or we could be pessimistic in that all resources are focused on EL2 and any new IP.

We are also blind on the contract details between Hooded Horse and Amp i.e. what IPs they are willing to publish, and the IP complexity between Amp and Sega.

No way they let the studio go with the Endless IP but somehow insisted on keeping the Humankind IP, lol. At most they'd want to keep publishing rights over the first game, the IP itself is quite frankly worthless without Amplitude behind it.

It wouldn't be about Sega owning the full IP, but possibly the distribution profit from IP derivatives for HK. It might not be worth allocating the resources to release paid updates or expansions for HK if some of the profit has to go to Sega.

u/JNR13 16d ago

Oh yea, for an expansion (as opposed to HK2) that's quite possible, yes.

1

u/Pelinth 7d ago

Well, this aged like milk lol.

Granted, I still retain the defense that instead of launching an expansion, Amp opted to just launch a new IP.

Yep lol, and I couldn't be more happier to be proven wrong. I responded to the original comment thread admitting to it.

I can console myself where they didn't release an expansion, but introduced a new IP, so there might be a slim chance they stopped developing HK due to my last para.

Did they ever fix the tooltips? How exactly does zone of control work in this game? How can I tell if merging two cities is good or not since it's hidden behind a messy hidden equation?

Sorry for criticisms on a celebratory post. What I'm trying to say is lack of rules clarity is why I stopped playing the original, and I'd love to check out the sequel if it fixes that issue

Sometimes merging cities is a good idea. I know people will say to just ransack the existing city and then create a new outpost on that territory, then attach it.. But honestly, if your empire is big, the cost to absorb a city is not that crazy (around 3000-4000 if the city is just one territory, like a conquered Independent People).. If you ransack it, there's been times when an AI player will create an outpost there on the next turn before you have a chance to act. I never did the exact math, but there might be a bonus for absorbing a city.. Years ago, someone made a post about how he would liberate territories, conquer then and then reabsorb.. but maybe whatever advantage that gives has been removed in later patches. I don't know.

u/nevrtouchedgrass 16d ago

This is a valid criticism because you’re correct that a lot isn’t exactly explained clearly and I myself only learned through much trial and error. Would also like to see better mechanic explanations in a sequel.

u/Pastoru 15d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if it's in the works. There is still a dev team working actively on it, I know there are like 2 updates a year but I believe there's something more in the engine.

Amplitude has to come up with something for the late game/work on pacing and my soul is theirs. Frankly I'd say most of us can say this about any map-based strategy game but Humankind still holds that special place in my heart for some reason.

Civ 7 shat the bed so badly I'd be very surprised if they didn't have another go.

u/Alastor3 14d ago

i love humankind but it wont come, first one bombed

Hey at least you had confidence

I think it’s wild that the new civ basically copied this game’s style and gimmick

1

u/nevrtouchedgrass 13d ago

They really did but many Civ fanboys will deny it. They didn’t even do it well either in my opinion because they were too concerned with turning Civ into a mobile game to appeal to a broader audience. Humankind did a good job. Not perfect but a good job.
