Discussion AI trailer at Gamescom Pre-Show

Tell me I’m not only one who was put off my that horrendous, clearly AI generated sequence that was half the trailer for Humankind 2?

I really can't see the AI in the trailer. Maybe in the backgrounds a little but the people really look human.

That weird “selfie” video angle seen in most of the trailer was actually something A.I. was very capable of making only a year or so ago. It even became a “trend” on AI slop accounts

I mean, the "selfie" video angle is because the perspective is that of a *baby*. If you wanted to set up a Safe For Work trailer where the premise is repeated births, what camera angle would you go with?

None? It's just a bad concept here, it doesn't work. They should have picked something else. And somehow they are oblivious that it looks uncannily like AI slop.

So what concept for an announcement would you have done for a game based around showing how humanity changes over the generations, while still keeping true to traditions that make us human?

Does everyone have to know how to do a thing in order to criticize it? No. Anyone can read a book or watch a movie and say "it's not good because of this reason" even if they can't write a book themselves. I don't know what I'd pick, but I'm certain I wouldn't pick a crying baby being born.

And that might be the reason why you don't produce announcement trailers while others do.

The concept is great and works well with the overall theme of the game.

We shouldn't curtail creativity because of AI. Fuck that.

Look, I think someone in marketing saw that the selfie trend was supper popular in historical videos category and the design was pushed in that direction.

Fundamentally all AI is a soulless as a marketing degree.

But that doesn’t translate to the video being AI. I think they used a technique similar to StageCraft, which is also capable of stripping the soul of any production. But that uses real humans.

It is not AI generated at all.

You have to be specific.
And to be clear.
Aditional CGI does not count as AI.

AFAIK, essentially all people in the trailer are real people.
Maybe some in the background are CGI, who knows.
There are CGI effects added of course.

It is like claiming that LOTR isn't liveaction, because they have segments of 3D animation for large armies.

That is real people, yes.
And of course they don’t mention CGI, because that is like mentioning that your burgers have fat in them when someone asks what topping it is.

Look at said soldiers feet.
That isn’t shells, that is straw from a bullet impact hitting by his feet causing straw to fly up into the air, not shells.

It looks just like their original Humankind 1 trailers? I don't see the "AI-ness" people keep mentioning.

Yeah I am not 100% sure if that was AI, but it was very off-putting and if that wasn't AI holy shit they did their best to make it look like AI. If it was AI, just why it looked ass. It actually put me off, until I realized it was Humankind II so might still pick it up but god damn it looked ass.

Hard to tell if it’s AI or just uncanny because of the fish eye lense use

Yep that is what I was thinking.
They could have chosen to use that style of virtual camera, but big mistake if that was the case.
But we shall probably know in a few hours or days.

It isn't ai at all.
Amplitude is firmly anti-ai
and devs have confirmed that no AI was in use, rather real actors and sets.
