SotR Behind the Scenes SotR Movie Epilogue News MEGATHREAD Spoiler

Thumbnail hollywoodreporter.com
84 Upvotes

As per numerous outlets, most reportedly, The Hollywood Reporter, who released the news first, has confirmed that Jennifer Lawrence and Peeta Mellark would be returning to their roles from The Hunger Games series for Sunrise on the Reaping’s epilogue.

As most people would prefer their news be kept a secret, please keep all comments/ discussion to this post ONLY.

Any and all other posts hereafter will be removed under low effort/ common reposts. We have already been removing posts that spoil this news in the title.

If you have any questions, please feel free to send a modmail.

Personally, I knew they would return for the epilogue, but I was really hoping this would be kept under wraps for fans and we could be surprised in theatres. I understand it is probably hard to keep huge news like this leaking, but it is a bit disappointing to see SO much be leaked for this movie already (the arena, arena outfits, chariot scenes, in movie posters, just to name a few).

Feel free to contribute to the discussion below, but keep it civil.

Thank you!

Lore/World Discussion What would have happened if Gale volunteered in Peeta’s place in the 74th Hunger Games?

Post image
365 Upvotes

Gale was Katniss’s since their teen years, they became friends after the mining incident that took their parents. Ever since then they bonded over hunting and their shared hardships.

Gale secretly had feelings for her, but she didn’t fully return them and he was barred from acting on them when she began a ā€œrelationshipā€ with Peeta in the games for sponsors, and was forced to continue it during Catching Fire to protect her family.

Unfortunately for Gale, Katniss comes to develop genuine feelings for Peeta. And Gale even tells Peeta he should have taken his place in the games to stop it from happening.

If this had been the case how do you think the series would have been different?

Do you think they might have both survived the arena?

How would it affect Peeta’s dynamic?

Lore/World Discussion Random thought: What is it like for younger Victors to mentor older tributes?

I was just thinking about the idea of how a younger Victor would mentor a tribute who is older than them?

Hypothetically, if a 12 yo won the Games, how would that play out when they had to mentor say a 17 or 18 yo tribute the next year? They’d only be 13 yo by that point.

I know it’s super unlikely a 12 yo would win, but the same concept goes for like Finnick for example, who won at 14, he’d be 15. What if he had to mentor an 18 year old tribute?

It’s just a random thought that I wanted to explore more, and I wanted to hear what everyone else has to say about it.

Trilogy Discussion What do you guys think would happen if Seneca Crane had blown Katniss up like President Snow wanted to?

• Upvotes

So, in the books and movies, President Snow states that had he been Head Gamemaker, he would've blown up Katniss the moment she pulled out the poisonous berries.

I think it would've backfired if she had been blown up. I honestly think that they were done for the moment the Gamemakers announced that the two-victor rule was revoked. Sure, the districts might not have bought the lovers act, but after a bit of time they would go, "Why was the Capitol afraid of a handful of berries?" Not to mention the Capitol citizens themselves, who believed the whole love story in its entirety.

This is something that keeps popping up in my mind, and I just want to hear other people's opinions.

Meta/Advice Cinema re-release locations? [UK]

Post image
6 Upvotes

As we all know the start of the re-releases is fast approaching (this weekend in some cinemas) and I'm trying to find the locations of cinemas in the UK that are going to be showing all the movies this month/October. Odeon are being irritating and not simply stating which venues will have screenings (London seems to be a no-go, oddly.) It'd be so cool, though highly unlikely, to do a marathon of all of them...

Have you been able to figure out locations? Please do share with us, it'd be much appreciated!

šŸŽØ Fan Content Idea for Fourth Quarter Quell

• Upvotes

So I was just thinking about what the possibilities could be if the Capitol won the war and crushed the Second Rebellion?
I imagine that they would probably continue the previous process of running the Games every year (with the exception of shutting down the Career training centers, a move that will become important later on).
But what about for the Fourth Quarter Quell, the 100th Hunger Games?
Well, I did some thinking and I came up with an idea so shocking and terrible that I think even Snow or Gaul would blush.
What if, for the 100th Hunger Games, the Capitol reaps 200 tributes. One pair for each year, including that one; and, as a twist, the number of pairs of tributes reaped are not even between the Districts.
Instead, each District sends a number of pairs of tributes that correspond to the number of times their past tributes have won the Games.
So 1, 2, and 4, which won the vast majority of the previous Games, would send the majority of the pairs of tributes, while others like 12 only send a few pairs.
The Career districts, which were latecomers but ultimately all joined the Rebellion, would pay the heaviest cost for turning their back on the Capitol and the favorable treatment they had once received compared to the rest of the districts.

While I was thinking about this and writing it down, I felt like Dean Highbottom after waking up from his hangover and seeing the concept for the Hunger Games and being horrified at what I’ve created.

Meta/Advice What THG quote should I use for my senior quote?

So I’m a senior this year and I want to use a hunger games quote for my senior yearbook quote. I’m currently leaning towards ā€œstupid people are dangerousā€ but I’d like some more suggestions before I make a final decision.

- should be from the books, not the movies, but can be from any of the 5
- can be serious or unserious, I don’t care
- should be real-world applicable

Meta/Advice Katniss costume

I want to dress as Katniss for Halloween, but I don't want to do her tribute outfit. I was thinking either her red interview dress or Catching Fire chariot ride. Both are awesome and iconic, but I feel like it's not super obvious to someone who hasn't read/watched it twice or more. Any suggestions for other costumes or ways to make them? I really want to put flames on the Catching Fire chariot dress but I have no idea how to do that

šŸ–‹ļø FanFiction As close to cannon as possible fan fictions

So I’ve read all the official books but was looking for more. I’ve never read a fanfic before but decided to give it a try I’m looking for stuff as close as possible to the originals so that the characters don’t seem off or not themselves. I’ve started the most obvious choice of the ā€œpeetas gamesā€ trilogy (plus the 4th addition) and am now just finishing the second book. However I’ve seen people mention other fanfics by other people fit in quite well with both the original books and the peetas games fanfic. Id like to know if anyone has recommendations about this (stories that fit in around the peetas games fanfic to some extent). Some of the recommendations I’ve seen included ā€œthe end of the worldā€ series by FernWithy and ā€œthe ashes of district 12ā€ series by silvercistern. Any advice on if these are good additions to the peetas games series or if there’s different/betters ones would be greatly appreciated.

Prequel Discussion Snow is Top 3 from the franchise.

Let me first start off by saying everything I’m saying will be in regard to ā€œyoung Snowā€ specifically from the book/movie ā€œSongbirds and Snakesā€.
Most of the time I get on here or online anywhere in relations to anything ā€œHunger Gamesā€, it’s usually mutually agreed that Snow is one of if not the most hated character from the franchise, which I somewhat agree with but what I don’t agree with is when people say Snow ā€œwas always a bad guyā€ or ā€œhe didn’t care about anyone or anything but himselfā€ now older Snow most definitely but young Snow (Songbirds and Snakes) started out a somewhat decent person, sure he had rude and mean thoughts but don’t we all lol. I full hearted believe he genuinely cared about Grandma’am , Tigris, Sejanus, and Lucy Gray. He did everything and I mean everything for his two family members he did things he didn’t want to do and even cut corners just to get them set up nice (he didn’t even care what happened to himself at all.) Sejanus was his bestfriend and in his own weird way I believe he was like a brother to Snow again Snow did what he had to do to survive he didn’t want to do that to Sejanus but he also couldn’t get caught and hanged so he did what he had to do to survive for him and his loved ones. Lucy Gray and Snows relationship is a little weird but he definitely loved her and would of did anything for her from the very first moment he saw her he treated her with nothing but kindness and respect and ALMOST gave up everything for her just for her to betray him then them each other. Snow is not a bad character he’s actually one of the most interesting in my opinion he always adapts to the situation and finds a way to survive no matter what he’s intelligent when it comes to ā€œstreet smartsā€ and ā€œbook smartsā€ I just don’t think he deserves all the hate he gets honestly.

Sunrise on the Reaping A Refreshing Take in Comparison to People Blindly Calling This Casting Choice Racist Spoiler

In my opinion, people of all races should get to play all different kinds of roles and that includes Career Tributes. Panache isn’t even the first black/POC Career, Enobaria is but no one says anything about that for some reason. Black actors have played a wide spectrum of roles throughout this franchise and will be doing so in SOTR alone so one prominent black Career really isn’t that big of a deal (and we already had that in Enobaria).

Panache isn’t even the only POC D1 tribute in SOTR, Loupe is also black and Carat is Japanese and if you look at the full tribute roster, you’ll see that diversity was introduced in every district (even D11, we got our first non-black D11 tribute). I think the diversity of the SOTR tributes is lovely, did people really expect all 16 SOTR Careers to be white? It’s clear that Jhaleil Swaby has put his all into this role, what we’ve seen of him so far is wonderful and we should appreciate the work he put in instead of hyperfixating on his race.

šŸ–‹ļø FanFiction Any good Hunger Games fanfics?

Hi everyone!

I’ve been fully immersed in the Hunger Games universe for years!
Countless times I’ve tried to write my own fanfics, and at this point, I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve read each and every book.

Before you give any nice recommendations, I’d like to explain my taste a bit:
My favorite book is The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, closely followed by The Sunrise on the Reaping.

What kind of fanfic I’d like to be recommended?
Clever plot twists are what I enjoy the most, along with some good world building (like the one which we’ve been exposed to in TBOSAS - the origin of the Games and all the ceremonies attached to them and how they were organically not on the level of the Games in the main trilogy).

For example, I’d like to be given a fanfic with random Hunger Games (let’s say 47th, 51st or 65th) where the winner was from a random district (let’s say 6) and where there are good plot twists/storytelling.
The timeline should be Reaping Day, Preparations, Games and then the Aftermath.

I’d really like to read something good so feel free to recommend.

Thank you so much!

Lore/World Discussion Is Haymitch still alive during the epilogue of Mockingjay or has he likely passed away by then?

Post image
468 Upvotes

Haymitch was the victor of the 50th Hunger Games and mentor of Katniss and Peeta, along with all tributes that came before them.

He became addicted to alcohol shortly after winning the 50th Hunger Games, due to Snow killing his family and girlfriend as punishment for his rebellious acts in the arena.

While mentoring Katniss and Peeta he would slow down on the bottle to help them the best he could, though by the end of the 2nd rebellion he begins drinking again, though as he mentions in the epilogue of Sunrise on the Reaping, he does so more out of habit than necessity.

During the epilogue of the same book he mentions he now also raises Geese in honour of Lenore and isn’t sure if he has long because his lever is wrecked because of years spent drinking. Do you think given all this that by the time of the epilogue of Mockingjay he’s still alive in his 60’s or that he has unfortunately passed away because of his wrecked liver?

What a crazy coincidence that 2 romance books sitting on my TBR list that I finally decided to read both have Hunger Games references in them, with the 2nd book having it be my first introduction to the story. It also made me feel old in a sense that my favorite series is now old enough to be referenced in modern day books

Trilogy Discussion Finnick theory (I MEAN FACT) Spoiler

Finnick never died (of course). The rebels staged his death with lizard mutts so that if they lost, the capitol wouldn't traffik Finnick. It was only to protect him and deceive the capitol. If everyone else knew about it then maybe they would reveal it under torture if they were captured so it remained a secret until the rebels won. In fact he is actually alive and well with Annie and their son in D13.

🚨WARNING🚨
Anyone in opposition/discredits this fact will be sentenced to a blissful life as an experiment Dr. Gaul's lab.

Sunrise on the Reaping Names and idioms in SOTR Spoiler

I knew that "The lost Lenore" is a trope of a lost love, with the love story in The Raven being pretty much them. Of course there's also Lucy Gray and her namesake ballad. Today I discovered that there's a phrase that's "The Real McCoy", meaning something that is real or not a copy. I am actually blown away. Does anyone else know any other names like this in the series? Because this is so cool
