Lore/World Discussion What would have happened if Gale volunteered in Peeta’s place in the 74th Hunger Games?

Post image

Gale was Katniss’s since their teen years, they became friends after the mining incident that took their parents. Ever since then they bonded over hunting and their shared hardships.

Gale secretly had feelings for her, but she didn’t fully return them and he was barred from acting on them when she began a “relationship” with Peeta in the games for sponsors, and was forced to continue it during Catching Fire to protect her family.

Unfortunately for Gale, Katniss comes to develop genuine feelings for Peeta. And Gale even tells Peeta he should have taken his place in the games to stop it from happening.

If this had been the case how do you think the series would have been different?

Do you think they might have both survived the arena?

How would it affect Peeta’s dynamic?

Meta/Advice What THG quote should I use for my senior quote?

So I’m a senior this year and I want to use a hunger games quote for my senior yearbook quote. I’m currently leaning towards “stupid people are dangerous” but I’d like some more suggestions before I make a final decision.

- should be from the books, not the movies, but can be from any of the 5
- can be serious or unserious, I don’t care
- should be real-world applicable

Lore/World Discussion Random thought: What is it like for younger Victors to mentor older tributes?

I was just thinking about the idea of how a younger Victor would mentor a tribute who is older than them?

Hypothetically, if a 12 yo won the Games, how would that play out when they had to mentor say a 17 or 18 yo tribute the next year? They’d only be 13 yo by that point.

I know it’s super unlikely a 12 yo would win, but the same concept goes for like Finnick for example, who won at 14, he’d be 15. What if he had to mentor an 18 year old tribute?

It’s just a random thought that I wanted to explore more, and I wanted to hear what everyone else has to say about it.

Meta/Advice Cinema re-release locations? [UK]

Post image
6 Upvotes

As we all know the start of the re-releases is fast approaching (this weekend in some cinemas) and I'm trying to find the locations of cinemas in the UK that are going to be showing all the movies this month/October. Odeon are being irritating and not simply stating which venues will have screenings (London seems to be a no-go, oddly.) It'd be so cool, though highly unlikely, to do a marathon of all of them...

Have you been able to figure out locations? Please do share with us, it'd be much appreciated!

🖋️ FanFiction As close to cannon as possible fan fictions

So I’ve read all the official books but was looking for more. I’ve never read a fanfic before but decided to give it a try I’m looking for stuff as close as possible to the originals so that the characters don’t seem off or not themselves. I’ve started the most obvious choice of the “peetas games” trilogy (plus the 4th addition) and am now just finishing the second book. However I’ve seen people mention other fanfics by other people fit in quite well with both the original books and the peetas games fanfic. Id like to know if anyone has recommendations about this (stories that fit in around the peetas games fanfic to some extent). Some of the recommendations I’ve seen included “the end of the world” series by FernWithy and “the ashes of district 12” series by silvercistern. Any advice on if these are good additions to the peetas games series or if there’s different/betters ones would be greatly appreciated.

Trilogy Discussion What do you guys think would happen if Seneca Crane had blown Katniss up like President Snow wanted to?

Upvotes

So, in the books and movies, President Snow states that had he been Head Gamemaker, he would've blown up Katniss the moment she pulled out the poisonous berries.

I think it would've backfired if she had been blown up. I honestly think that they were done for the moment the Gamemakers announced that the two-victor rule was revoked. Sure, the districts might not have bought the lovers act, but after a bit of time they would go, "Why was the Capitol afraid of a handful of berries?" Not to mention the Capitol citizens themselves, who believed the whole love story in its entirety.

This is something that keeps popping up in my mind, and I just want to hear other people's opinions.

Meta/Advice Katniss costume

I want to dress as Katniss for Halloween, but I don't want to do her tribute outfit. I was thinking either her red interview dress or Catching Fire chariot ride. Both are awesome and iconic, but I feel like it's not super obvious to someone who hasn't read/watched it twice or more. Any suggestions for other costumes or ways to make them? I really want to put flames on the Catching Fire chariot dress but I have no idea how to do that

🖋️ FanFiction Any good Hunger Games fanfics?

Hi everyone!

I’ve been fully immersed in the Hunger Games universe for years!
Countless times I’ve tried to write my own fanfics, and at this point, I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve read each and every book.

Before you give any nice recommendations, I’d like to explain my taste a bit:
My favorite book is The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, closely followed by The Sunrise on the Reaping.

What kind of fanfic I’d like to be recommended?
Clever plot twists are what I enjoy the most, along with some good world building (like the one which we’ve been exposed to in TBOSAS - the origin of the Games and all the ceremonies attached to them and how they were organically not on the level of the Games in the main trilogy).

For example, I’d like to be given a fanfic with random Hunger Games (let’s say 47th, 51st or 65th) where the winner was from a random district (let’s say 6) and where there are good plot twists/storytelling.
The timeline should be Reaping Day, Preparations, Games and then the Aftermath.

I’d really like to read something good so feel free to recommend.

Thank you so much!

🖋️ FanFiction Any good young Victor fanfiction

I know this is kind of a generic idea but I was wondering what people might have for a good fanfiction with the premise of a young Victor I'm looking from 12 to 14/younger than finnick when he won.

I really don't care about the premise but I do want to see how a young Victor does as a mentor. This could be an OC, a crossover, or maybe even an au following a young katniss or a Penrose.

Trilogy Discussion What Type of hero Katniss,Gale and Peeta is

Katniss Everdeen : A Reluctant Hero a Character who doesn't want to be a hero, seeks no adventure or fame, but ultimately rises to the occasion and does the right thing when faced with great adversity.

Peeta Mellark : A Ideal Hero Character who represents all the qualities of a hero unwavering moral rectitude, and goodness.

Gale Hawthorne a combination of two : A Pragmatic Hero a character who prioritizes practical, objective driven outcomes and the effective pursuit of good over strict adherence to moral codes in short "Lacks the Moral Cleanliness of a ideal hero" and A Anti Hero a character who lacks traditional noble hero qualities actions might be fueled by vengeance ,selfishness, cynicism but still do good things

Prequel Discussion Snow is Top 3 from the franchise.

Let me first start off by saying everything I’m saying will be in regard to “young Snow” specifically from the book/movie “Songbirds and Snakes”.
Most of the time I get on here or online anywhere in relations to anything “Hunger Games”, it’s usually mutually agreed that Snow is one of if not the most hated character from the franchise, which I somewhat agree with but what I don’t agree with is when people say Snow “was always a bad guy” or “he didn’t care about anyone or anything but himself” now older Snow most definitely but young Snow (Songbirds and Snakes) started out a somewhat decent person, sure he had rude and mean thoughts but don’t we all lol. I full hearted believe he genuinely cared about Grandma’am , Tigris, Sejanus, and Lucy Gray. He did everything and I mean everything for his two family members he did things he didn’t want to do and even cut corners just to get them set up nice (he didn’t even care what happened to himself at all.) Sejanus was his bestfriend and in his own weird way I believe he was like a brother to Snow again Snow did what he had to do to survive he didn’t want to do that to Sejanus but he also couldn’t get caught and hanged so he did what he had to do to survive for him and his loved ones. Lucy Gray and Snows relationship is a little weird but he definitely loved her and would of did anything for her from the very first moment he saw her he treated her with nothing but kindness and respect and ALMOST gave up everything for her just for her to betray him then them each other. Snow is not a bad character he’s actually one of the most interesting in my opinion he always adapts to the situation and finds a way to survive no matter what he’s intelligent when it comes to “street smarts” and “book smarts” I just don’t think he deserves all the hate he gets honestly.

Trilogy Discussion I just watched the first movie and I now understand why people like being team Peta. Anyone else notice his book/movie differences?

So don't get me wrong, I don't dislike book-Peta, but I'm not in love with him, and I get why Katnis doesn't like him originally either. He's sometimes borderline manipulative (to others mostly), and he withholds information from her like crazy. And yes, I totally understand that he was doing all that to help her, and no, I don't think it was too terrible a thing to do, but still.

Also, it's beyond me why he even likes Katnis. I mean, they hardly talk to each other before the Games, and she's pretty awful to him, at least at the beginning (and every time he does something nice, there's always an undertone of is this an act, which I think is super interesting and it's one of the many things I adore about the books, but I digress). I don't really get why she likes him either, seeing as, again, nothing in common. I do understand why book-Gail likes her, though, them having shared history and laughing together and confiding in each other and all. And I understand why book-Katnis decides that she doesn't love him.

But I never understood being team Peta until I watched the movie, because let me tell you film-Peta takes being Lover Boy to a WHOLE new level, I mean the dude is constantly staring at her like she's fallen from Heaven and every time he does something nice you can really tell that he means it (lowk sad that the whole acting and mistrust subplot is missing but you cant have everything I guess). Meanwhile film-Gail looks like he really couldn't give less of a crap about Katnis's love life until he starts being randomly jealous of her and Peta. Now this might be because Katnis and Gail had basically no screen time at the start, but still, their film relationship felt really meh.

This is NOT me trying to commit an act of violence against people who are Team Peta/Team Gail ok? Let me be super clear that this is not a post for people to fight to the death because of their love/hate of Peta/Gail/Katnis. But I do want opinions!

(Sorry that all their names are misspelt but every time I tried to spell them right the corrector was coming after me saying that I couldn't post it because it was a controversial topic (???), so I didn't know what else to do. Also I have read all the books but I haven't watched the other 2 films yet so if stuff changes in them I have no knowledge of it.)

EDIT: Watching the CF movie and becoming solidly more Team film-Peta with each passing moment.
