Discussion What were the devs thinking with the gender equality?

So, certain countries have a flag: gender_equality = yes. Which allows for female generals and governors.

In vanilla, that flag is on for Britons, Gaels, and Iberians.

That itself is very strange, because them being patriarchal societies is fairly well documented. I presume their logic was just "Boudica exists, so...". Disregarding that Boudica was the exception, outside of the time period, and could have been handled with events. If a single woman is enough to make the entire Celtic sphere gender equal, why not just make Anatolian countries equal as well, after all Artemisia existed?

But bigger wtf is that Scythians and Sarmatians have gender_equality = false. Those are probably the closest thing to gender equality, and that's well documented and prominent in pop culture (Amazonians are literally based on an exaggerated version of Scythians).

It's so weird.

Discussion MOD REQUEST: Is it possible to make it where the Gender Equality Decision is made piecemeal? Where females are allowed entry into one or a few positions at a time?

I make this mod request as a response/sequel to the points raised by the one who made this post

But seriously, it's so clunky, and limiting for roleplay options! It's just yes or no, with no context. In order to get female scientists, or female priestesses, or female, you cannot just let them into those positions piecemeal, you unlock all of it, or none of it. Some people might not want to see female legion commanders or governors, some people might want the men to remain as the family heads.

I don't think that's fair or realistic, because if we're being honest, there is absolutely ZERO chance that any society is going to completely abandon their patriarchal ways at the drop of a hat. Realistically, it would happen, and likely stop, at increments.

If someone could make such a mod, it would make my day.

Question Problems with checksum/multiplayer

So recently I wanted to have a chill MP game with a friend and I tried to host a game.

Player checksums have to match if people want to play together.

We had bunch of mods, same versions and everything, but the checksums were different so we made a new playsets with only Invictus (Newest update) and the checksums still did not match. We went to vanilla and the checksums were still different from each other. Both of us have the latest versions of Imperator, all of the dlcs/bonus content were activated for both of us.

Is there a way to fix this? Genuinely what the hell is the problem?

Question (Invictus) Are there any mods to protect the last pop In a territory or stop territories from being uncolonised

Or anything I can do to modify the game files myself

I've moved over to Invictus and it's incredibly disheartening watching Ireland slowly turn into its vanilla counterpart over the course of 20 years

If need be, i'm fine with a pop or two dying here or there, but having to recolonise is a pain in the ass

Bug Holdings not removed/transferred following Antigonid kingdom's collapse

Once "The Antigonid Cause Wavers" event triggers and the territory is carved up by rivals and their newly created subjects, Antigonid characters appear to retain their holdings in those territories.

The exact territories seem to differ slightly each time, I think because the holdings are somewhat randomized upon starting a new game.

Some examples in the screenshots below:

Is this a known issue?
I verified my game files and I also started a bunch of new games and ran them until the event triggered and the same thing happened in all of them, so it seems like a bug.
(Note: this is base game without any mods).

Question How to deal with provincial loyalty?

Whenever I play as the Antigonids I deal with unhealthy amounts of provincial disloyalty. How should I deal with this and are there some tips on wlhich cultures to integrate or what to do? This occurs right after I beat Macedon and Thrace, and I'm about to go after Egypt, so its really annoying especially since Samaria is disloyal.

So I wanted to try out the Crisis of the Third Century mod, and I wanted to play as a republic that wasn't Rome. I thought it would be funny to play as an Italian Gaul tribe and form the borders of the Roman Empire with it. I chose Insubria because I knew their mission tree was fun. The hardest part is obviously the beginning, but it's not that complicated. The primary culture, Lepontic, is quite populous at the start, and there's a mission to bring in more people to colonize the region that gives you almost 90 pops practically for free. Because of this and being a tribe, your armies are quite large, with the main issue being manpower, which is very low.

In the final part of its mission tree, Insubria lets you become a republic, and I kept that government type until I conquered all of this territory around 720, which is where I stopped my expansion after conquering Mesopotamia from Persia and taking Albion in the British Isles.

Then came two mod events that I thought were really amazing: the Crisis of the Republic and the Monetary Crisis, which I'll mention in a moment. The Crisis of the Republic is cool because it presents various internal issues within your empire as you expand and add more provinces. You can delay and reduce the crisis, but eventually, you'll have to take action to save the republic! I saved my democracy by becoming a Dictator... It works! The path to becoming a dictatorship here is really cool, especially since I find the conventional way of turning into a dictatorship extremely boring and uninspired. It's important to mention that Christianity had already appeared and was spreading throughout the empire, and with the fall of the republic, a church appeared in Rome and another in my capital, Mediolanum. With that, I got everything needed to convert, becoming Christian (which is actually very strong, especially the saints and Christianity itself).

Anyway, the monetary crisis is another event I didn't pay much attention to at first because when the option appeared, it showed I was extremely well-off, around 300% fine. However, over the years, the gold mines start drying up, more people become integrated cultures, and you have to manage the crisis until you can enact reforms to fix it—that is, until two issues appeared that tested my patience.

The first one is fine and I think it's cool: some of your generals demand that you declare war on random countries, and if you refuse, you lose loyalty with all generals in a legion as well as popularity. Fair enough, it's pretty neat... Now, the epidemic crisis is another story. I know it's meant to be brutal and mess you up, but it's extremely frustrating to have heaps of resources at my disposal and not be able to use any of them to ease the situation even a little and relieve the pressure. Like, why can't I use state funds, or better yet, the governor's money to distribute food, reducing the monthly food debuff in provincial capitals? Or why can't I add food to provinces like some deity bonuses that provide a fixed food supply to the province, or demand that my governors do something at the cost of loyalty or state money, increasing their corruption and mine? In short, it's just very annoying to deal with this crisis because there is no mechanism or resource you can spend, unlike other crises that give you tools to handle them and make managing them intuitive.

Overall, this mod is very much worth playing, especially if you want to do a longer campaign. I highly recommend it, and I believe I haven't even seen everything it has to offer yet.

Discussion (Invictus) Really like the game but I feel rushed

Tldr: it feels like I have to constantly rush fighting 4 front wars at all times, being constantly punished by AE as a result, while barely having enough money to build anything to grow my economy or stabilize my territory, and still not be able to expand fast enough. If I allow myself This game feels like a constant sprint and have that still not be enough

So I've played a number of playthroughs as Rome, getting better with each new campaign. Now that I'm pretty decent, but what I'm running up against is that sometimes it feels like I have to rush as fast as possible, fighting wars on multiple fronts simultaneously, to expand before I hit the end year. By fighting that many wars and taking territory at that rate though, you get hit with massive AE penalties, but it feels like you need to keep expanding (and keeping high AE). It feels like you can't slow down on the wars and actually spend some time focusing on the economy, like what I do in CK3.

Even worse is sometimes conquering regiona. Right now I'm just trying to conquer the southwest coast of Anatolia for a mission tree. The issue is that it is a smallish region divided up between 6 or do small nations each with lots of walled cities. Because it how war score is calculated when annexing territory at the end of a war, I'm only taking rather small nibbles of territory and then forced to wait because of truces. It may take me another 15 years in game to conquer the region. If the same territory was owner by one nation, I could conquer it in just one 3 year war.

On the economic side, I barely ever have enough money to even build one building at a time due to low monthly income. Through the mid game, I can only afford building anything if I sack a good town. I'm generally reliant on sacking to build anything and I'm only able to start affording things through monthly income by like 200bc. I do what people always say too; I incorporate the cultures everyone recommends, I focus on building all the farms and mines I can, I build out foundries, and I try to build grand theaters when I can. I make sure to constantly be making colonies to help with assimilation and grow my Roman populace. I just am still pressed for cash until pretty late in the game.

If anyone has tips on any of these pain points, I'm all ears

"The civil war size will be inversely proportional to your stability" This means that while doing it with 40 stabilty was huge, 80 should be small, not latium alone, it is less than what i had with low stability, fuck this game.

Modding Is it not possible to make a mod that allows you to rename a country?

I remember looking for this a while ago when I played a bit more actively, but short of editing the files, it seems there's no way to accomplish this. I don't like some of the name changes that tags undergo and was wondering if there was an easier way of going about this.

Tutorial Turns out i've been playing entire campaigns with my capital bonus switched off

might be old news to veterans but this genuinely reframed how i do trade.

for the longest time i picked capital imports purely on commerce value. line goes up, more money, cool. and i knew capital surpluses gave national bonuses in theory, i'd read that, but i clearly didn't actually understand it because i was doing it wrong the whole time.

the bit that got me: importing one copy of a good into your capital does not give you the national bonus. it just establishes presence. you need a SECOND total copy to hit +1 surplus, and only then does the empire wide modifier turn on. so i'd been importing single copies, seeing the good sitting in latium, and assuming i was getting the country wide effect. i wasn't. getting nothing nationally on half of them.

other thing i didn't clock, the national bonus doesn't stack. so me proudly importing like 4 copies of one good was pointless past the first surplus. variety would've been way stronger. one surplus each of a few different goods buffs way more of my empire than a pile of the same thing.

and the part that actually stung. a foreign country can request your last surplus copy in a trade and if you let it go you lose the national bonus across your whole country. so somewhere in one of my runs i probably clicked accept on some trade spam and quietly nuked an empire wide modifier without noticing. theres a block surplus toggle for exactly this, wish i'd known.

anyway now i manage latium totally manually. salt route alone gave me legion maintenance reduction across every army which is nuts for one trade line.

what do you all prioritize for the capital. i keep going back and forth between a military surplus and just permanent research. curious if theres an obvious best one im missing

Discussion Mission trees do not belong to IMP

On paper, the mission trees are a good idea: you get assigned goals and pretty powerful rewards. And unique missions contribute a unique feeling of (some) countries.

But at the same time, it was the wrong choice for Imperator. The missions feel strangely isolated from the rest of the game. The system is really rigid. Most of the missions aren't fun or challenging; they are just "conquer X" or "build building Y in Z". Furthermore, they don't correspond to anything that happens in the game.

I might be on this alone, but I would have preferred that instead of the missions system, the game would have done something simpler like EU4's rivalry/powerprojection, which was simple. You have rivals that are of similar strength, and you get a bonus for beating them. That is like the soft/dynamic mission system itself that fits the time period very well. And despite copying half the mechanics of mid-development EU4, Johan looked at EU4's rival system and said:

Fuck that, we don't need it, let's make this time-consuming mission system instead.

Modding Understanding UI modding for I:R

Hello, I was looking for help understanding the UI modding for this game. If anyone has a lot of experience with modding paradox games UI, I would love to chat on Discord and get a great deal more understanding of how it works:

  1. What all of the props on each block on ui components even mean

  2. How to take an existing UI component and inject values/scripted UI into it

  3. Is it possible to iterate over a list to render components i.e. every_in_list?

Thank you, and I'm sure those modders out there understand how frankly impossible UI modding seems to a beginner for paradox and other games. I am a programmer, so I have a strong baseline knowledge of how code (like paradox mod code) works. Thanks all so much, have a great day!

Question (Invictus) Is there a mod that fixes automatic trade?

The only reason I enable automatic trade is because I don't want to micromanage every province to avoid starvation in a larger empire. However whenever I enable it, even when the population is actively starving, they opt to import furs or rocks over food.

Any way to fix this?

Question (Invictus) Problems with Virtual Limes

Some days ago, I had a problem with loading my game. After some testing, I discovered that the problem was not with it per se, but with the Virtual Limes mod. After disabling the mod, the game started to run again like it used to. Would there be any way to fix it? VL is a pretty nice mod to have IMO especially when playing near Rome, which I like to do quite a bit. I also found it to be quite a weird problem because both the Invictus and the vanilla versions are broken and the game won't load if either of them are enabled with/without Invictus.

Question Just got Perfidious Albion by 497. My thoughts and some questions

Base game and all DLC

Just started recently, and i've been playing in the region to learn the basics, so I have formed it before and it's not that hard to conquer everyone but good God was i stonewalled by colonisation the first time It took almost 100 longer

It's insane how quick and easy it is once you know how to move pops properly and even easier as a tribe

Probably could have completed it 5 years quicker this time, but I discovered tyranny and had a Civil War threshold of 0 for the last 10 years

Might try again to see if I can shave a few years off

For my Questions

1 How viable is it to keep my borders on just the island and steal slaves. Are there any technologies that help with that?

2 Should I stick with vanilla for a while or just move over to Invectus?

Image (Invictus) The World in 867 AD, Just Before the Conversion to CK3

I recently made a post about my playthrough as the Euthydemid Empire (here). Since then, around 600 more years have passed in-game. I had to continue all the way to 867 AD in order to make the conversion for the megacampaign smoother and avoid potential issues, but quite a few interesting events took place along the way.

The Empire survived two plagues.

The first one was catastrophic. A quarantine was declared across the entire Empire, which triggered dozens of rebellions that could immediately spread across vast territories. At times, I had to make peace with some of the rebel regions in order to concentrate on suppressing others. The population declined by roughly 20% during the first plague.

The second plague occurred around 60 years later, but this time the Emperor had learned from the mistakes of his predecessors and simply chose not to impose a quarantine across the entire Empire, which helped avoid major unrest. As a result, around a quarter of the Empire's population died over the course of 20 years. However, according to the calculations of the imperial advisors, as much as a third of the Empire's population could have perished if a quarantine had been imposed, as it would likely have caused numerous rebellions and wars, resulting in far more deaths than the plague alone.

After the second plague, the peace that had lasted for centuries continued, aside from a number of rebellions. However, a new problem emerged: landowners began accumulating enormous amounts of land. At one point, three landowners collectively controlled 70% of all land in the Empire, while the Emperor himself owned nothing at all.

Eventually, the ruling dynasty adopted a new strategy and seized control of 10 regions. From that point on, governors in those regions were permanently appointed exclusively from members of the ruling dynasty. Over the course of 200 years, this allowed the dynasty to strengthen its control over those 10 regions to the point where the ruler controlled 40% of all land in the Empire. At the same time, the influence of all other landowners was reduced so drastically that none of them could any longer be considered a truly influential figure within the state.

The Euthydemid Empire seemed to have abandoned further expansion, but then, unexpectedly, in the 5th century AD, one of the Emperors was presented with an opportunity to diplomatically subjugate a large state in Arabia. Through a series of diplomatic maneuvers, the state became a client of the Euthydemids, and this was immediately followed by diplomatic expansion across the remaining independent states of Arabia.

Other empires that held territories in Arabia were gradually pushed out. Their military marches on the peninsula were released through diplomatic maneuvering and brought under Euthydemid control, after which they were turned into client states and eventually annexed. Several territories were acquired through threats.

In the end, without fighting a single war, the entire Arabian Peninsula became part of the Empire.

Then, unexpectedly, an entire state emerged across the region of Palestine, and the Euthydemids were quick to take advantage of the situation, subjugating and eventually annexing it as well.

Following these brilliant diplomatic maneuvers, which expanded the Empire to an unprecedented extent, one of the Emperors in the 7th century AD decided that the time had come to gain complete control over the most important sections of the Silk Road. This required the conquest of Syria, Iraq, western Iran, the entire Caucasus, and significant territories in Scythia.

The wars lasted for around 30 years, but all of these territories were annexed and fully reorganized in a record-breaking five years. These conquests gave the Euthydemids a complete monopoly over trade between the West and China, eliminating any possible intermediaries.

By 867 AD, the Euthydemids had reached an unprecedented peak. All of the Empire's land borders were fortified by an uninterrupted wall, cities had been built up across every province, and hundreds of metropolises had been established. Control over the trade routes allowed the ruling dynasty to become immensely wealthy, and the current ruler now possesses a treasury of more than one million gold. All available technologies have been fully researched.

One interesting development was the discovery that Alexander's tomb had been moved to Antigonia. This was only discovered after the city itself was conquered. By that point, the city had fallen into decline and had become little more than a small settlement, while Alexander's tomb had fallen into disrepair. Within just a few years, however, this settlement was transformed into the largest metropolis in Syria and the provincial capital, while Alexander's tomb was restored.

The most surprising discovery came when one of the Empire's scholars, while studying the archives in Antigonia, found evidence that one of the Empire's dynasties was actually a cadet branch of the Argeads. The Emperor immediately made this information public, and within a few decades arranged advantageous marriages between his heirs and the Sophytid dynasty. This allowed the heir to the Empire to claim that Argead blood flowed in his veins as well, greatly increasing the legitimacy of the entire dynasty and strengthening imperial rule as a whole.

The biggest problem facing the state at the moment is an excessive surplus of money. There is simply too much of it and almost nothing left to spend it on. Taxes have already been kept at the minimum level for centuries, naval spending has been increased, and the salaries of officials have been raised, yet the Empire still has more money than it knows what to do with. This creates significant problems with corruption, although fortunately these can still be dealt with relatively quickly.

Now, the Greco-Bactrian-Indian Empire is ready to enter a new era: the Middle Ages.

One day, the descendants of its current rulers will rule the entire Galaxy-but that will only happen thousands of years later, in Stellaris.

And with that, my Bactrian playthrough comes to an end.
