We haven’t even unlocked the Linlang region however it has been integrated into events and outfit sets almost non-stop since the game has launched. I get that infold is a Chinese company so leaning into more of their culture is to be expected, but wouldn’t it be akin to an American dressup game releasing cowboy outfits every other season? Don’t get me wrong I’ve enjoyed it, but the frequency is getting redundant and now I am starting to fear that LinLang might be the 3.0 region. The sudden surge in Linlang themed outfits completely out of left field is my biggest reason for thinking so, and during the 2.9 story quests Professor Adventura has you play an excavating mini game where you find 3 relics: a wish lantern (Florawish), a boneflower (Itzaland), and a paper umbrella (LinLang). It could just be my imagination running wild but it very much feels like an easter egg hinting at Linlang being the 3rd region and I don’t know if I could take it so early in the game knowing what other diverse regions are still locked out. While playing through 2.6-2.7 I convinced myself Whaleport was the next region, but we’re getting such a high volume of linlang themed outfits my hopes are quickly crumbling.
I thought they had also mentioned a 3.0 preview would be included at Gamescon, so I’ve been eagerly awaiting news but…. Seems to be crickets on that front?
Edit to add: coming out of 1.0, I was very excited for Cicia or Linlang to be the next regions, but I feel like Itzaland raised the bar so much higher than I expected that I am now craving more diverse terrains and aesthetics.
This is one of those things that isn't going to stop. We're gonna be getting random Linlang fits here, there and everywhere until the game closes, and the best thing to do is rewire your mindset and view this as a break from pulling/spending. Eventually they'll give us some more interesting ones that aren't Hanfu, like modern fits or fantastical ones and outfits from different Chinese subcultures and eras that will make them more exciting again.
Also, my understanding is that Infold gets some type of grant money from the Chinese government because they're promoting things of cultural significance to foreigners (holidays, cultural collabs, traditional outfits etc) so they're doubly not going to stop. Although I do think if they're getting this grant money for educating foreigners about Chinese culture, they could do a much better job of actually explaining "this prop is to celebrate x holiday" or "these freebies in the mail are because of y thing in China" instead of throwing them at us with no real explanation.
The comparison to cowboy outfits doesn't come close the the vast regional differences and extensive timeline of Chinese clothing.
Their Linlang outfits so far are more akin to releasing a bunch of European ballgowns. My criticism is similar for both. I'd like to see more Chinese regions and a greater variation of fabrics represented (i.e. not just upper class).
the 4* jumpsuit last patch was a good step in the right direction. there’s nothing similar
the current shop outfit, while i love the fish aesthetic, is similar to the kaleidoscope 4* last patch, so it ends up feeling repetitive when they are released so close together
Yes I wanna see a bigger variety, more regional stuff like clothes from Dunhuang and other ethnic groups besides Han, like Miao, Zhuang, Manchurian, etc. plus they have so many dynasties to pull from and concepts to reference
Agreeing with this! Boiling every Lingland outfit down to "its like a cowboy outfit" is like saying "Pioneer era clothing is the same as 20's flapper dresses" or "a 12th century medieval dress is the same as a victorian gown"
There's many stylistic differences and a breadth of fashion eras to appreciate accross the Chinese fashion spectrum... but I get it, coming from a totally different cultural background at first they seems similar.
I was wondering about that treasure hunt and thought the same thing—maybe we will go to Linlang proper for 3.0? But then I decided nahhh, these are just the three regions we’ve been to already 🤷🏻♀️ Because Danqing and Wanxing Realm are at least Linlang-adjacent, you know?
That’s exactly how I feel!! During 1.0 I wanted LinLang to be the next region, but after Danquing and Wanxiang I feel like I’ve already been there! I would like them to introduce a wider variety of styles and terrain before we keep getting too much repetition… although the Itzaland Banners kind of proved that the banners don’t follow the region themes anyways 💀
It would be like an american game releasing cowboy outfits if everyone in america wore different variations of cowboy outfits for thousands of years, both men and women, including just as much variation throughout history as medieval clothing up through the renaissance and to the 19th century , until about a century ago when foreign culture and economic influence along with sudden political upheaval suddenly and dramatically changed fashion to something that was not cowboy outfits and was of a completely different aesthetic lineage than cowboy outfits
honestly I don't know much about chinese history but I think I know enough to say that it's not very much like cowboy outfits
Exactly! Cowboy clothing has like, what, maybe 150 years of history? Chinese clothing can pull from literally like 4000 years of history, through different dynasties and plus there are multiple ethnic groups within the Chinese umbrella with cultural clothing they can reference. The better comparison would be basically all of “European” fashion ranging from the first greek civilization through the industrialization era
It’s a bad historical analogy, sure, but in-game they keep giving us the same 3 variants of Linlang. Maybe that’s part of the problem in and of itself…
idk why you got the DVs, and why people keep clinging to the analogy when it's just an exaggerated example to bring the point home -- which, it seems, everyone got!
I am a massive LingLang fan. However, I feel the outfits are getting repetitive. I really want to see them do something new. It feels like they all look the same to me. It makes me very sad as someone who loves the aesthetic so much.
Yes! I really like Linlang, but you're right in that the outfits haven't been unique.
The Linlang banner we just had, the white dress has the same silhouette and even the same exact emblem on the chest as the Wanxiang Weaves Life 5*, and the jacket on the pantsuit banner was very similar to the free ink ability outfit's jacket we had in Danqing. Other pieces looked too generic to deliver something unique over and above the Linlang we've had so far.
I really wanted to pull for the hair but didn't want to get the rest, so I passed on it...
tl;dr shining nikki released a hanbok in 2020 that sparked a massive culture war and ended up closing korean servers for good
in 2020 shining nikki debuted in korea and released a celebratory hanbok outfit which apparently was labeled as 'chinese dynasty', (i also read it was just listed under chinese category? the details are very vague) and it sparked the age old fight on whether hanbok is chinese-derived or korean. it started a big war on twitter (who would've guessed.) at the end of all of this infold shut down korean servers and, many people don't know this bit, refused to refund some korean users who spent money to get the hanbok. i'm sure they're backed up by some fine legal text, but it's still scummy. you can probably guess my opinion on all of it as a korean, but i don't wanna ignite more flames here
infold apologized to the angry CN playerbase for humiliating china, and that they would not tolerate the korean users' insulting of china's name etc. it sounds very similar to a certain situation going on now, doesn't it? haha
I’m not a big linlang girlie but was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed pieces from some of the more unique linlang fits we’ve gotten so far (forever bond, the black top up fit they did back in 1.x, certain pieces from the 2.2 banners and their 4* counterparts), but besides those I feel like everything else is too similar and I’d imagine that even actual linlang fans are getting tired of it at this point. 😕
>China and Japan are not on good terms. Starting November 2025
Longer than that even, this is just a recent and natural escalation. Abe pretty much set things in motion for the current shitfiesta waaay back in 2013 or so.
I do know that (W spreading of information tho, naturally). It is bonkers that a diplomatic crisis should ever interfere with the content in a dress up game.
I wish to see the extent of consequences that would transpire were they to release any japanese (etc.) cultural clothing, like from parts of the chinese playerbase and otherwise... the idea of potentially understanding the validity of Infolds avoidance, as much as possible, is tantalizing.
It's also strange that they do go for adding things like japanese street fashion (it might matter that it was co-opted by fashionistas in China, just like lolita fashion, putting their own spin on it), yet can't do the same for the more long-term standing inventions. All I want is something like my favourite dress (as pictured) in the game. It's the best kind of chimera.
I wanna see the consequences too, but not at the cost of Nikki! The Chinese government does not screw around with any "dissent" from its companies. We need some other game company to stick their neck out so we can watch the axe come down on them instead of Infold/Paper.
Whenever we get Linlang outfits in the shop or midpatch 4* they're bc of some celebratory date in China or bc of a cultural collab (like the last patch 4* was for the museum collab). That's why we get them often, besides the obvious thing about appeasing to their homeland playerbase
BUT, even tho the shop/4* are usually Hanfu (which is the common style that you seem tired of, although i wouldnt compare it to cowboy style lol) the 5* banners are NOT Hanfu, for example the 2.2 banners are heavily inspired by the Dunhuang culture and had Feitian inspired costumes (with the help of a museum even, iirc) so I'd be careful with doing generalizations about Chinese style bc theyre not the same.
China has a huge culture and many different fashion styles from those, and I truly trust that Infold will be able to cook many cool outfits for the 5* when we reach Linlang. I do agree that Infold is repetitive sometimes but they do it with Heartcraft too lol we can ask for more outfits from other regions too instead of the constant complaints about Linlang in here bc thats always going to be the norm for Infold (or any chinese gacha tbh)
The Chinese players are Infold's biggest and most important market, by a mile. Of course they have a bunch of Chinese-inspired outfits in their Chinese game catering primarily to a Chinese audience.
I do hope they'll give us some more variety within the Linlang style, but there's no reason to assume we'll ever get less of it.
I love linlang and I went into this game knowing I would get a lot of Chinese clothing. The only problem I have is that there should be more variety/styles for their linlang outfits. There are so many Chinese dynasties and regions to choose from.
i think a large portion of their audience really enjoys the linlang style and is willing to spend for it and so theyre appealing to that audience. the chinese styled outfits have ALWAYS been a big part of every nikki game, i remember i loved them in love nikki. i would be so ecstatic if linlang is 3.0 but im sorry if its not your cup of tea.
Cicia is still the highest likely region that is next.
But as much as I too am pooped out, Lialang elements are really x.2 and x.8 so I really can't complain all that much. I would not mind Lialing being the last region we go to because we do get a lot from Lialing.
I love Chinese dresses but imo, so far they're more limited to "fantasy Chinese" style. I'd love love love some Wuxia outfits, which is more androgynous ones. Or dynasty specific, or other ethnic background such as manchurian, mongolian and others. There are also modernized version of Chinese clothes which are pretty cool too.
The cultural outreach Infold is doing with Linlang in terms of Chinese culture is literally helping pay for the game. As others have said, this isn't going to stop or slow down.
I think it is incredibly unfair to compare cowboy outfits to the diversity and history behind chinese clothes. You are comparing outfits of a couple of decades in a part of the country to thousands of years of history across many regions.
Yeah, a specific style is overrepresented, just as ballgowns are. But there is a lot of diversity within linlang. Look at WWWL, moonlit immortal, lotus heart and heartboard crossing. If you think these are as diverse as only cowboy outfits i think you have some cultural bias. This is not a bad thing, humans are better and distinguishing things they are more familiar with. As you said, it is a chinese company so chinese styles will be prominent, not to mention that by far the most players are chinese. To chinese people (and those familiar with the culture) these are really not similar.
I take Linlang outfits as saved gems. Some I like, but some of them look so samey that I think if I have this one, I might not even need others.
But personally I would enjoy to see other regions as we have had Wanxiang and Danqing realms already. Tho, I like how they look, but I would love to see something different, to have different styles for my wardrobe.
i'm a big linlang fan and loving the outfits they've been releasing so far!
i do agree that they're starting to blend a little, but i'm holding on to the fact that they're probably saving more variety of linlang outfits until the linlang region actually comes out ;w;
don't feel bad with most the comments explaining Chinese background (they're right). cloud in general wasn't popular on global LN either for the same reason. unless it looks interesting, most don't care that much at all. I'm hoping it isn't another linlang location either too.
It’s thanks to Linlang to freshen things up that we’re not only getting the same Wishfield flower/fairy dresses all the time 😭 Chinese style dresses are the norm for Nikki games because of the target audience, Love Nikki consistently pumps out lots of them to this day.
As a LN player and certified Cloud hater... this won't get better, lol. Idk how it is in SN but I assume just as saturated with Cloud/Linlang suits. It's a Chinese game and they make a lot of Chinese suits, some interesting, some samey.
But look on the bright side: When we do get to Linlang it's gonna be plenty of easy skips.
I saw a video not too long ago about the chinese gaming industry and how there's a lot of politics involved, I am in no way an expert myself but that video said Chinese games that promote their game out of China are basically forced to 'promote' China/Chinese culture in the game. That would explain why there has been something Linlang related almost every patch and that probably won't change as long as the game gets updates.
I love the Linlang outfits, but some of them are indeed getting similar and repetitive, so I hope we will get a bit more variety in the Linlang outfits that will be released in the future
Yes. I believe PPG/Infold actually revieves grants for cultural export as well as has an obligation to meet certain export expectations in exchange for doing business with global
I fear this comparison doesn’t track. We as a country are just a fart in the butt of Chinese history. Theres simply so many eras and historic fashion to reference.
We've only had two dedicated Linlang banner seasons, far apart, and none of them have any overlap whatsoever... We're talking about a humanoid cat and dragon outfits with unique accessories, and then obviously the pieces of the deer outfit and WWWL are super unique and different. Everything else has been occasional store outfits, free outfits, or small events and the occasional four-star banners for real life holidays.
Let's be honest also, Itzaland banners were little different from 1.0 banners and if you have Linlang fatigue and not fairy tale and florals fatigue despite the difference in emphasis, quantity, frequency, and redundancy I think you should interrogate your biases.
i feel like they need to try different shapes and designs cuz it’s always the same robe-style kinda clothing… sometimes i can’t even distinguish some of the sets cuz they all look the same to me, even the accessories😭
i'm kinda with you on that but i think the only reason i'm feeling that way is because all the Linlang outfits we've had so far look similar to me. i could be wrong but i don't think Linlang will be our next region. i so badly want it to be Whaleport but i think it's going to be Heartcraft Kingdom and we'll be going to Cicia because of Azrael's side quest.
I also haven't found the Linlang outfits particularly tempting to pull for, historically. But given that the developers did such a good job making Itzaland interesting, maybe it's worth keeping a little bit of faith that they'll be able to do something comparable with a Linlang region? And if not, you can always just skip the uninspired banners and save your currency.
I like linlang outfit its resembles so much arabs clothes ... Unfortunately all of these outfits are limited and you can't find crafted on in game :( hate it so much
As a big fan on Linlang outfits, I’d be very disappointed if we get Linlang themed outfits the entire rest of the year, meanwhile we got no limited banners that were actually Itzland themed during Itzaland.
As someone who played not a lot of, but some Chinese gacha games, I'm tired of Chinese-inspired regions. It's all the same everywhere, especially the idealisation of the culture.
i dont mind linglang stuff like the most active part of the fanbase is chinese and the devs are also chinese but i wish they ventured out with their linglang designs a bit. like as far as i know chinese traditional clothing is pretty varied
at least the later half of 2.X added a lot of more unique stuff though not counting linglang
Eh, Linglang outfits are still outnumbered by ballgowns and fairytale outfits. I do agree with the other posters who want more variety in Linglang fashion, though.
I only ever pulled on the cat banner for the unique ears and tail. I basically look at every linglang banner as an immediate skip/break from gacha. When you reframe perspectives like this, it actually makes you appreciate them, because at the very least you'll be able to save toward something you want more.
My theory is that we aren’t going to get a full Linlang region the way we got Florawish and Itzaland. Rather, they’ll be more island-style updates and that’s the reason why there’s so many Linlang fits/updates.
I thought somewhere I heard that Linlang would be a place we would visit during ALL locations, so there won't be a proper since we just go there all the time. Did I just make that up in my head?
I’m in that place where I want them to just do the Linlang region just so that we can do it and get it over with, while not wanting it because I am not looking forward to the year we’ll spend there. The two smaller zones we’ve gotten have been really neat and they were cool to explore but every gacha game makes these regions the same with a slightly different coat of paint with the same vague this is a perfect region of the world even with its problem storylines.
Part of it also just comes with the fact that as someone not as familiar with the clothing… I never know what to do with the Linlang clothing and so much of it looks samey to me. It’s I imagine the similar feeling to people with the ballgowns cause for me I read most all of them as very distinct and can easily mix and match them with a variety of looks.
Im sorry you get downvoted for expressing your opinion, just wanted to let you know that I have the same state of mind as you right now. I’m a little tired of Linlang styles, I like it (pulled the cat banner final evo and first one of the magnet outfit but as you mentioned, Linlang was already so much under the spotlights, I wanna see more different landscapes and clothing such as Whaleport, Starhail, even Twinmoon since I’m so confused about what it is.
No hate towards the Chinese culture but in every MMOs or gachas there’s the Chinese looking country and I’m tired of this aesthetic. Itzaland was such a great surprise..
Edit: Well it’s my turn to get downvoted it seems lol. Go on, have fun, nuke my karma all you want but it won’t change my opinion. Deal with it.
I think you’re getting downvoted not for wanting diversity but for the part of your comment that’s like “I’m tired of the Chinese looking country”. It comes off poorly.
I think it’s perfectly fine to say “I’m tired of the similar Linlang outfits” just like “I’m tired of ballgowns” but your comment has a rather Sinophobic undertone. People complain about too many ballgowns so it’s fair, but no one really complains about “I’m tired of there always being a European looking country” in games even though there is always one, so complaining that there’s usually an Asian region in Asian-made gacha games feels kinda weird
I understand your point and maybe that was just a huge misunderstanding or mispronouncing but I’m not sinophobic or hating on any Asian countries, I’m myself half Asian 😭
If you check my profile you might come across a rankings of the 1.X seasons I made a while ago, and I ranked Danqing very high because it was new, fresh and wonderful. Even Wanxiang will be ranked up very high when I’ll make the 2.X rankings, but I just feel like there’s not enough variety in aesthetics so far. We have too much ballgowns (European style) and also so much Linlang clothing. All I was saying was that I wish there was more diversity in aesthetics, and so far only 3 stars are varied enough to me
Edit: That’s really what I loved about Itzaland, even if the banners weren’t very Itzaland-ish at least the sceneries were breathtaking and unique, I absolutely loved every regions and how distinct they were, and I’m sure that even if we go to Linlang in 3.0 they will also cook with the regions. Just compare Wanxiang and Danqing, same vibe but so different. I just hope they do that with styling too because so far Linlang banners generally looks too similar and according to the other comments many people agreed on that.
Oh no I wasn’t saying that you are a Sinophobic person, but just suggesting perhaps that specific comment was not well put, in a way that was probably interpreted by others to be Sinophobic, if you were confused as to why so many downvotes. Just wanted to point out the double standard about cultural presence in game design
Hopefully when they get to the actual Linlang empire they will have more diverse aesthetics and styles, like maybe they’re saving their best ideas for then. They’ve have plenty of diverse source material to draw inspiration from, but my guess is that they’re doing the most popular styles of hanfu first for now
I know for sure they’re gonna cook. Infold has many flaws but they absolutely nail it when it comes to environmental designs. I trust them on that even if I will cross my fingers for less vertical cities
Yes I hope for no more vertical cities too, but I have the ballerina outfit just in case lol. I really did enjoy danqing island and the city area of wangxiang too
In other Nikki games they had suits like this for the cloud empire, something like this would probably satisfy people’s desire for more diversity within Linlang
Calling it "the Chinese looking country" is definitely what's doing it.
I (and I believe many others) feel somewhat similarly that I don't want the generic hanfu fantasy trope we've seen everywhere, but specifically because I want to see more of the culture, not less of it.
Seems like it's ok to say that we are tired of ballgowns but not ok to say the same about Linlang styles, that's sad that we are getting downvoted just for having a different opinion
It’s okay I don’t care, it’s the internet after all. I still love this community and this game so much but in every communities you have a bunch of stupid haters who will literally spit at you for saying you disagree with something. May they have fun
Yeah I also love this community, in fact it's the first time I leave a comment because I've felt it was pretty unfair to get hate just for wanting diversity
tbh the shop outfit this time was a bit repetitive without sleeves and a unique handheld. also i have to say it was a perfect opportunity for a fishing ability… judging from its lore 😭😭😭😭
i’m a sucker for linlang and its counterpart in shining nikki so i will not be complaining haha
I wish they did more outfits inspired by other cultures, the world is wide, Linlang is getting old. I get it they celebrate Chinese culture but at this point they’re just shoving it down our throats with how repetitive the outfits are
