Announcement Update on all the bot spam + new sub rules(Announcement)

Post image
111 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

First off, a huge thank you to everyone in the community who helped report our inactive old mod to Reddit. Because you guys spoke up, Reddit stepped in, removed the inactive mod, and let us take over to get this place properly moderated again.

On behalf of the rest of the mod team: u/azrckcrwler, u/DatGuyKilo, and u/CELTBADB0Y, we’re super excited to be stepping up and getting this sub back to what it should be.

If you’ve noticed a bunch of annoying T-shirt links, photo sellers, random merch spam, or stolen picture reposts lately, yeah... we’ve been getting hit hard by bots while the sub was unmoderated.

The 4 of us on the new mod team were chosen to step up to get this sub cleaned up and back on track. Here is what we’ve set up so far to put a stop to it:

Karma & age minimums:

New accounts now need to be at least 3 days old and have 10 karma to post directly. If you’re a real person under that limit, your post isn't deleted; it just gets sent to our queue so one of us can manually click approve for you. (It's my first time setting up an automod, so I hope it works LOL)

Media in comments:

We enabled images and GIFs in comment sections so you guys can easily share picture replies, progress shots, and build details! 😄

Queue cleanup:

We’re going through and clearing out all the old bot posts cluttering up the sub.

Quick Rule Refresh:

We also updated the community rules so everyone is on the same page:

-No bots or spam accounts (banned on sight and post deleted).

-No T-shirt/store links unless approved by our mod team. Make sure to send us a message first. (Keeps people from getting scammed).

-No sketchy external links.

-Credit people's work if you're posting photos/builds that aren't yours.

Keep it generally on-topic:

Keep posts focused around squarebody trucks, K5 Blazers, Suburbans, etc. Showing off related classic GM stuff, shop updates, or garage projects is completely fine, but random off-topic spam will get deleted.

If any bot posts sneak past the filters, just hit the Report button so it goes straight to our mod queue.

Thanks again for helping us save the sub and for your patience while we get everything sorted out!

89 Blazer seat belt retractor/button

On my 89 the driver and passenger side belts only seem to retract if the door is open. Sucks up nice and tight with door open.

However, with door closed, if I pull some slack it just keeps the slack and never attempts to retract and tension back? Some evidence online says this is by design, while also only locking from lateral g forces.

I under the button through the door jam release the lock and forces retraction but it also seems to lock any slack applied with the door closed. Is that normal? Could I just remove the button to have it in constant retraction? Or is there some trick to get it to retract with door closed?

Power window stop positions

Good morning,

Looking for information or pictures on possible adjustment point for the upper stop limit on power windows. I can see the bracket and pad for the bottom stop point but is it possible to adjust where the top
Stop position would be?

89 blazer seat covers

Hi all,

Does anyone have a good source for driver and passenger side seat slip covers for the high back bucket seats? Just looking for some simple black covers vs full reupholstering at this time. Google / GPT keeps steering me to S10 stuff.

What’s the value of my 1973 k5 Blazer?

Just put new interior together, been working on it for over 8 years. It’s been garage surfing for most that time since I don’t have a garage and I’m just tired of not being able to have access like I would. Would love to keep but, I will regret it, shit happens tho. It’s a Cheyenne edition, I have rear emblems that I need to install, and some door mirrors, I have white top. It wasn’t frame off but it came down to metal in and out. Wondering if it’s the right time, value would determine it for me right now. Hope yall can help a guy out.

I’ve been looking at this subreddit for a while now, and since we have a new mod team, I guess I’m out of excuses. This is my 77 K5 project Blazer. It has a .030 over MKIV 454, an SM465/ 205 and is currently still rocking a 44 front and corporate 10 bolt rear on 37” humvee take offs. The dash, spring hangers and shackle flip are DIY4X parts and the rear driveshaft is from tom woods, with most everything else being custom built. The current plan is a Dana 60/ 14 bolt rear, a set of 39.5 swampers and a new set of fenders. Unfortunately life happens and it’s been squirreled away in a garage untouched for about 5 years waiting on a harness and a new fuel system.

Shot in the dark

My husband has a 1991 K5 blazer and it’s been in the shop for a blown head gasket. When the mechanic fixed the issue and put everything back together, he said that one of the cylinders was not running right, that it was hot, and he ended up figuring out that there is a crack in the engine block and we now need to replace the engine. This is especially frustrating because it was a rebuilt engine with only 10,000 miles on it. Does anyone know of anyone parting out a k5 that may have an engine for sale or anyone who happens to know where we can find one? We need a 350 5.7 (forgive me if I am saying something incorrectly, this truck is my husband’s and I know nothing about trucks or engines.) We are in SouthCoast Massachusetts

Flooring question

Post image

What is everyone running for carpet replacement? I’m thinking about swapping out for a vinyl flooring kit from LMC but I’ve heard mixed reviews any thoughts? The current carpet is crusty and salty from many Midwest winters. I do plan on using the truck for hunting so I’d like something easier to clean out than carpet. I’ll lay a tarp down of course whenever I go out though.

87 K5 Intermittent Fuel Pump Priming

Thumbnail

Hey there, just joined. I have somewhat rebuilt my 87 K5 with zero experience (because that’s what ends up happening when you buy an old truck and no mechanic wants to touch it), new 5.7L 350 ZZ6 TBI crate engine, new 4L60 non-e transmission, new Holley exhaust, fuel tank (Tanks Inc. TM15B-T-KIT6 EFI-Ready Fuel Tank Kit 1982-87 Chevy Blazer, w/400 LPH GPA Pump) and complete new wiring of the entire truck with Painless Performance. There have been little issues here and there but I’ve been able to trace them and fix them and what a crazy ride this has been.

But I am currently stumped here. My fuel pump just started doing an intermittent priming thing. Most of the time the fuel pump primes and I can start it but a few times now over the past month the fuel pump won’t prime. I’ve checked all the wires, and during a no prime I was able to test a bunch of different things and compared them to when it would prime. The most intriguing findings (I think) was that I got 12.34 V from the bulkhead during prime but at the relay there was only 8.37 V. As well as during prime my input and output had zero ground resistance and with the no prime I had over 1 ohms of resistance. The fuel pump has worked well for years since so I am understandably lost.

I’ve traced some of the wires and there doesn’t seem to be any damage, I’ve switched the pump relay with my horn relay and got the same results. I’ve had the truck not prime four times now but I always get it working again pretty quickly. The first time it didn’t prime, I shook the wires on top of the tank and the next day dropped the tank to check the wiring inside the pump which was fine and I even added another ground strap from the pump to the frame. Ran fine after that so I assumed it was the ground. It happened a second time, so I double checked my battery and the negative terminal came loose so I tightened that and thought the issue was done. It happened a third time of course at 3 AM after work and then I just started kicking everything and shaking all the wires like a maniac because I was annoyed and tired and then it primed. I got a new battery just in case even though my voltage was fine but it was five years old. It seemed to work fine but then happened a fourth time, I was pretty confident that shaking all the wires again would make it prime and it sure did.

Before judging me I’ve gone to about seven mechanics throughout the years and every one of them has damaged my truck somehow so I don’t trust anyone and anyways I know every inch of this vehicle but I am truly annoyed and confused.

It’s also been idling a little rough ever since I put freon back in about a month ago, and that was right before it started having trouble with the fuel pump. I’m sure they’re not related and that’s a separate vacuum issue but just sayin’. The only other electrical problem I might see is my headlights flicker once every 15 minutes or so when I’m driving at night. Any help would be amazing.

Shock question

Post image
140 Upvotes

My 84 k5 has the quad shocks up front. What is the common upgrade when changing these? I’m assuming most people delete the quad shocks. My blazer came with the 6.2 diesel from the factory and I believe the quad shocks were used to handle the weight of the motor? Thanks

Prior owner said this is the first time the top has been on for 8 years. Planning some updates for easy drivability this summer and lots of time with the top off, bigger projects for the winter. My dad had a 77 when I was a kid and I have wanted a squarebody for DECADES. I’m like a little kid in a candy shop!

Front clip swap

I can’t seem to find any solid info on how much it would really cost to put a 70s front clip on an 80s body it’s not a project I could do myself and I would most likely be getting reproduction parts to do it does anyone have experience with having a body shop doing it instead of it being a diy job?

Where are the 70s bodies?

I’ve been looking high and low for years the 80s body style are everywhere can’t seem to find me a good 76-79 that isn’t completely rotted or 30k+ I just want a sweet daily I can gradually put love into not a for parts truck or an expensive garage queen (would a front clip swap just be the way to go? they get pricey when you don’t know a handy man who could do it and have zero experience with a project that big)
