It really is a bottle opener

It’s so you can open a beer and loosen cam shaft retaining bolts at the same time

Bottle opener, all KTM tool kits contain one as far as I’m aware.

My 24 690 doesn’t :(

Did you buy it new?

All the back to my 2002 LC4, and further I imagine.

Yeah although the design seems to have changed over the years. The one pictured above is a better looking version than the one that’s in mine.

My 2001 250SX had one

3

My 2020 390 Adventure and 2022 901 Norden did not have one :(

I don’t think my RC had one :(

Keep it on the bike. It’s the one you use to open a bottle while you wait for the tow truck.

Huh, that’s funny. I didn’t know they include such an important tool as a bottle opener.

For peeling the worn cams out.

There is a long spark plug socket in the tool kit, the non-bottle opener end of this wrench will twist that to give you leverage to get the plug out.

If ypu cant figure out how to open a cap with your foot peg tools are wasted on you anyway

Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve heard that LOL

3

u/bigblockrick May 14 '26

It's so you can relieve your pain while working on your overpriced broken down bike

4

u/Butteriswinning May 14 '26

You already know exactly what it is. What is the question?

3

u/KernOily KTM EXC May 14 '26

LOL I just guessed. Wondering why they put such a thing in an off-road bike tool kit. The handle is too short to be an effective end wrench and the places I go off-road there aren’t exactly coolers full of cold ones waiting for me… unfortunately

Just for marketing/vibes

I'm pretty sure it's a cultural thing too. A lot of German companies build bottle openers into their specialty tools. I just came across one on an industrial sweeper. Their beer drinking culture is that ingrained.

Their neighbor, Austria, probably feels the same way.

To enjoy a bottle of cold beer while waiting the tow truck. I am riding ktms since the first 990s; happily, never had the chance to enjoy that beer 🤭🤭🤭

2

u/KernOily KTM EXC May 15 '26

Let’s hope it stays that way eh 🍻

u/UmitCuk May 15 '26

Well, thinking now back in time I had a couple of issues, but overall I think ktms are well made machines; but yet the bottle opener is included 😛😛😛

u/JohnDaviz May 17 '26

so you don´t drink beer?

1

u/Ecstatic_Potato863 May 18 '26

Yes it is. I love it when automobile manufacturers do this to give it away as a gimmik. I have a bottle opener in my VW Golf that is also used as a divider between two cup holders. I think I used it once in 10 years. But nice to have. (I open my bottles with everything lighter, screwdriver, wrench, another bottle, any sharp edge… (I am german))

Very good, thank you sir.

Works both on 0.33L and 0.5L containers, great tool

Its used to torque the cylinder bolts. You put the 3-8” torque in the bottle opener end.

(Facepalm) Of course. Why didn’t I think of that.
