Everything at home feels really fragile right now.
I live far away from my family, and a lot is happening at once.
My mom is sick and needs surgery. My dad also has a newly diagnosed health issue, and both of them have been exhausted and barely sleeping.
Our dog is only 6, a German Shepherd, and has advanced kidney disease. He needs saline twice a day and still vomits a lot. My dad is extremely attached to him. He was the one who really wanted a dog, and our dog has become such a huge emotional part of the family.
My parents have had a difficult relationship at times, and somehow things became calmer after we got our dog. I think that’s part of why I’m so scared now.
With my mom being sick, my dog being so sick, my dad dealing with his own health, money being tighter, work stress, and everyone being exhausted, I keep worrying that people are going to get overwhelmed, blame each other, or slowly pull apart.
I know I may be thinking too far ahead, but I’m genuinely scared of my family breaking apart.
One thing that always made living far away easier was knowing I could go home. Even when my own life felt uncertain, I always had this thought in the back of my mind that home was still there.
Now even that feels less certain, and I think that’s what is scaring me the most.
I really want to go home, even if it’s only for a few days. I want to see my mom, help my dad, and spend time with my dog because I don’t know how much time we have with him.
But I only started my current job about a month ago after struggling for a long time to find one. It pays very little, but it’s still the only stability I have right now. I’m also involved in a client delivery this week, so I’m scared that taking leave this early could affect my job.
I’m also in the US on a visa, and there are new rules coming up soon, so even a short trip home feels more complicated and uncertain than it normally would.
My parents have always wanted me to earn well and become financially stable. They sacrificed a lot so I could build a better future. Now there are more financial pressures at home too, and that scares me even more because I’m nowhere close to being able to help them the way I wish I could.
So I feel stuck between wanting to go home and wanting to protect the little stability I finally managed to get.
If I stay, I’m scared something will happen and I’ll regret not going.
If I go, I’m scared I could make my work situation harder or create problems for myself when I’m only just starting to build some stability.
And underneath all of that, I’m just scared of things changing at home while I’m so far away.
I don’t even know exactly what I’m looking for by posting this. I just feel really scared and alone with all of it.
I keep going back and forth about whether I should go home or stay here, and neither choice feels right. I’m scared I’ll make the wrong decision and regret it later.
I think I just needed to say this somewhere where maybe someone would understand.
