Mechanical Advice How to replace headlight washers
2023 GX here. The headlight washer broke on my wife’s car and I ordered a new washer and washer cap. How do I mount this thing back? Do I have to take the headlight out? I have the clip and the new washer connected but can’t seem to figure out how it mounts from under the car. Pic is of my wife’s car for reference.

Didn’t take it as a knock, I actually like that even better…just wanted something I wouldn’t see too often.

Thank you. I’m always looking for stunning and beautiful wrap pictures of GX’s and I was starting to have to clip pictures of 4Runners to make a decision but this is beautiful and it’s helping. I have a black GX so I was leaning towards a darker color, but this helps balance the palette for me.

After hundreds of pictures of random Temu rims and spacer kits, this is the type of actual unique "modding" I can get behind.
Well done!

I think with some wheels and aggressive tires this thing would look even better.
I respect the originality.

Can you walk us through the design choices that led you to "banana candy yellow"

Wife wanted yellow car. It was either a GX550 and no wrap or a GX460 and wrap. All our other cars are wrapped so it was an easy choice. My son actually picked out the final shade of yellow.

Okay so you’re able to get the clip in without taking the headlight off? I can get the clip in but getting the washer on the clip seems impossible since the clip is loose .

Yes you are below the head light and it doesn’t need to come out. You have to pull the washer unit from the inside so it is flush with the bumper and then put the metal clip on the neck. Try putting the metal clip on on the washer unit before you go under the gx to see how it fits together

Okay so just to get this straight. Put the washer unit in until it’s flush with bumper, then put the metal clip on? I was trying to put it on with the clip already installed and figured there was not enough room. Also the clip first but the clip doesn’t fit snug so it rattles around if I try to put the washer unit in.

Yes see my first picture.
Get the unit seated into the bumper from the outside- the picture shows befofe the tabs that need to be lined up. Crawl underneath the gx, pull the washer unit from the inside so you can fit the plastic collar and then metal clip snug on the washer unit between it and the inside of the bumper. The clip should fit snugly and that’s what keeps washer the unit from falling out. It took me about two hours since I didn’t want to take the bumper off2

Ahhh I understand now. How did you prevent your washer fluid from leaking all over while you were doing this? If you’re putting the washer in from the front the hose will have to be disconnected

Love it or hate it, wish more people went bold with colors. The white, black, grey everything is a downer.

Bold Color.. This World needs to bring back the 144 count Crayon Box of Colors for Automobile Color Options!!!!!! I Recall over 10 options of colors back in the day. Id pick a Light blue like the tacoma on the GX

You can get to it by removing the wheel and pull the fender liner back.
It’s much easier to remove the bumper though. It’s just a bunch of clips and bolts, not too bad.

Removing the bumper requires you to reprogram the sensors which is an $800 job by the dealership. They encountered this issue when wrapping.

Hopefully you don’t have to take off the front bumper. Try removing the wheel then the wheel well covers and see if it’s accessible that way. Also IH8MUD may have insight and someone who’s been there before.

Bad news is ChatGPT says the bumper has to come off. Yes. On your 2021 GX460, replacing the headlight washer actuator/nozzle assembly is a front-bumper-off job. The good news is that you do not need to remove the headlight.
For the 2021 GX460, the catalog identifies:
RH/passenger actuator: 85207-60130LH/driver actuator: 85208-60130
Painted washer covers are separate parts. (Lexus Parts Now)
Replacement procedure

1. Protect the bumper
Tape the edges around the bumper/fender/headlight area with painter's tape.Put a blanket or fender cover underneath the bumper when it comes off.
2. Remove the front bumper
Remove the upper radiator/grille cover and associated clips/fasteners.Remove the screws/clips in both front wheel wells.
Remove the lower bumper fasteners.
Pull the bumper corners outward from the fenders to release the side clips.
Carefully pull the bumper forward.
The GX460 procedure requires disconnecting the washer hoses before completely separating the bumper. (Go-Parts)
3. Disconnect the headlight-washer hose
Have a small container ready because washer fluid will drain.Disconnect the hose from the washer actuator.
Cap/pinch the hose temporarily if you want to minimize fluid loss.
4. Remove the washer actuator
With the bumper off, the actuator is accessible from behind the bumper.
For example, on the passenger/RH side:
Disconnect the washer hose.Release the retaining clip.
Remove the actuator/nozzle assembly from the bumper.
The 2021 parts listing confirms the actuator is a separate replaceable assembly. (Lexus Parts Now)
5. Transfer the painted cap
If you're replacing the actuator but keeping your existing painted cap:
Extend the washer nozzle outward.Release the cap from the actuator.
Transfer it to the new actuator.
Be careful here—the painted cap is a separate piece and is relatively inexpensive if damaged. (Lexus Parts Now)
6. Install the new actuator
Snap the new actuator into the bumper.Reinstall the retaining clip.
Reconnect the washer hose.
Make sure the hose isn't kinked or rubbing anything.
7. Test before reinstalling the bumper
This is important.
Reconnect enough of the bumper/wiring to safely test the system, then operate the headlight washers and verify:
actuator pops up smoothlyspray pattern is correct
no leaks at the hose connection
actuator retracts completely
8. Reinstall bumper
Reverse the removal procedure, making sure all side clips engage before tightening the fasteners.
One important distinction
If by "headlight washer replacement" you mean just the little painted cap, that's a much easier job and you don't necessarily need to replace the actuator. If the nozzle itself won't extend, leaks, or is broken, then the actuator assembly is what you want.
If you tell me LH/driver or RH/passenger and whether you're replacing the cap, the actuator/nozzle, or the pump, I can give you the exact part number and a much more detailed bumper-removal sequence with the fastener locations.

Do I have headlight washers in a 2012?

Look under the headlights for a small rectangular box. They come out when you hit the sprinklers.
