Monthly Buy/Sell/Trade thread

We have decided to implement a monthly thread in which users can buy, sell, and advertise--breaking rules #1 and #2--so as long as it is contained within this thread.

Comments will be sorted by "new" by default.

Use this thread to:

* List items OR services that you are attempting to sell. While not required, you are encouraged to list the price(s) you are requesting.

* Solicit items OR services you are in search of or in need of. Again, while not required, you are encouraged to list a price you're comfortable paying.

* Advertise anything and everything, so as long as it is still relevant to Lincoln--promote a concert for your new local band, advertise a sale your local shop is having, etc.

We don't anticipate too much traffic or comments on this thread, but wanted to make it available to those who might enjoy or benefit from having it.

Lastly, if you do ultimately pursue offers posted here, PLEASE be aware that scams are rampant. Help protect yourself by following some of these (personal) recommendations.

Do NOT:

* Accept a personal check, ever. Or a money order or cashiers check that you were not present for when the individual purchased/obtained it.

* Use an electronic app to transfer funds. This includes, but is not limited to, Venmo, Cashapp, PayPal, Zelle, etc. While this seems easiest, it's **incredibly easy to get screwed over** with people sending you funds that they don't actually have.

DO:

* Accept **only** cash for smaller/medium purchases. For larger purchases, insist that you meet the individual at their bank and be present while the bank verifies and issues a cashiers check right there, on the spot.

* Meet in a public place. For example, if you're buying a phone, there's no better place to complete the transaction than inside of a Verizon or T-Mobile store.

Let us know if you have any questions or feedback. Have a great month!

Project Future shady practices

There was a post awhile ago from an employee that used to work at the Highlands location and I did not take them seriously. I assumed it was just a disgruntled employee blowing off some steam. As someone that not only worked at Project Future and then quit because of some of their practices, I can tell you they were 100% right. Not only did the director there get promoted to executive director, but she is also a narcissistic dictator and is taking over the centers. As soon as she took control, she fired multiple people for completely ridiculous reasons. 1 teacher asked for help and was extremely overwhelmed. She was fired for having an attitude while asking for help. Another went to the OWNERS and told them how she was uncomfortable with the way the executive director was treating staff (including yelling at them in front of parents and just being overall degrading). She was then fired for talking about the executive director behind her back… by the executive director!! Management will also “forget” to withhold taxes and Aflac from staff paychecks until they either quit or are fired so they can keep their last check for back pay. (Completely legal just shady af).

Teachers are great but don’t work here if you value your mental health or want to be treated like a decent human being.

What is your experience with petition ciruclators?

This year, multiple petition efforts across the state are being investigated for alleged signature fraud. We're investigating how this kind of fraud happens — and what it means for the petition process in Nebraska moving forward.

We want to hear from residents across the state about their own experiences with petitions and petition circulators.

Please fill out this short form or comment here to share your experience. We value your privacy and won't publish any information without your consent.

Looking for Recommendations Gaming Laptop Help…

Upvotes

Looking for someone in Lincoln, Nebraska who is knowledgeable about gaming PCs and might be willing to help me fix my son’s computer.
It’s a Nimo gaming laptop/PC, and it worked perfectly when we first got it. Unfortunately, my son went through the initial setup process on his own and somehow ended up completely locked out of it. The only solution I could figure out at the time was reinstalling Windows 11.
Ever since reinstalling Windows, the computer has had severe lag and performance issues. I spent hours trying to troubleshoot it with help from Google and went through what felt like every possible fix multiple times, but nothing worked.
From everything I was able to figure out, I believe the issue has something to do with the display adapter/graphics drivers. It kept defaulting to the generic Windows display adapter instead of the proper one, and despite trying numerous solutions, I could never get it resolved.
I’m definitely not very knowledgeable about computers, so at this point I think I need someone who actually knows what they’re doing to take a look at it. I’m hoping to find someone local who could help diagnose and fix the issue without charging an outrageous amount.
If you’re knowledgeable about gaming computers or know someone trustworthy in the Lincoln area, please let me know! This is my son’s computer, and I’d really love to get it working properly for him again.
Thank you!

Isn't it ironic?

I wonder if he'd be upset if the police sent him a bill after stopping a robbery at his home? He used to have all DJT campaign trash on his truck, abruptly removed it all after he won the election. He has slowly been adding new decals.

Pet licensing

I just got an email saying I'm late on licensing my cat. I'm guessing when I took her in to get shots and spayed last year (she was a stray i rescued) they licensed her. But I had no clue about it unfortunately and I'm on a very limited income (disability) I'm already tapped out of money for the month as bills took it all. How important is renewing it? How long can I wait? I'm stressing...

Based on this article, Nebraska Bookstore closed in July 2015. A bit of nostalgia hit me when I saw it.

Looking for Recommendations Bach to Rock?

Hi everyone!

My daughter has recently found a new interest in learning an instrument, she's thinking guitar or piano, maybe both!

I have seen a few things about Bach To Rock that opened pretty recently, does anyone have a child enrolled there or has anyone actually met any of the teachers, etc.? Any pros or cons? Or is there anywhere/anyone else you would recommend? TIA!

Looking for Recommendations How can we make this happen?

Post image

We desperately need a stoplight at this intersection. Far too much traffic travels through W. Fletcher Ave. and NW 1st St. for it to remain a stop sign 🛑 only intersection.

Traffic gets backed up constantly, especially with vehicles waiting to make left turns. People don’t know how to drive, and this intersection is becoming increasingly frustrating and inefficient. A traffic light would make a huge difference here.

How do we get the City of Lincoln to look at this?

Lincoln Landlords taking advantage of tenants

I have over this summer came across several tenants in Lincoln that are mowing their property for peanuts. I know of one guy that mows like 6 properties in the neighborhood and gets $100 off his rent a month (not per mow)...this would be like 2k a month if a professional was to do it my guess

Is this allowed? Any info would be appreciated.

Looking for Recommendations Giving my friend a tour of Lincoln?

So my friend is visiting Lincoln soon. I have one evening plus one full day to give him a taste of what the city has an offer.

I’m thinking a a combination of the Haymarket, a walk around the university, the sunken Gardens, the Capitol, and of course we have to try Runza.

But I love other Lincolnites to weigh in. If you only had a day or two to give someone a representative tour of Lincoln what would you do?

Love more recommendations for excursions, landmarks, restaurants

Owners of cats with HCM/heart disease

Are there any other Lincoln locals whose cats have Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy? Or heart disease in general? I’m looking for vet clinics (not All Feline) that do Echos (echocardiograms) & I’ve called several in town and have had trouble finding anyone.

I’ve been referred to Vogal Veterinary in Omaha for a cardiology specialist but am trying to find someone in town for emergencies.

4 pickups with 2 trailers just pulled up east of the Unitarian Church. There's a good sized transformer or something there, but there does not seem to be a power outage nearby. I can't quite read the logo on the vehicles. Anybody know what's happening?

Spaghetti buffet

Hello, we are looking for an all you can eat spaghetti buffet. Some places have fettuccine or rotini, but not spaghetti. Silly, I know, but our son wants spaghetti for his birthday. Bonus if it has a decent salad bar or even gluten free options. Any place like this in town? Thanks!

Lincoln Nerd Fest

I’m thinking about dressing up as a random medieval princess for Lincoln Nerd Fest. Should I? I have never cosplayed in my entire life and I have never attended Lincoln Nerd Fest event before. I’m thinking about doing this because it might work if I ever decided to become a small vendor selling medieval theme handmade items. I need opinions, both good and bad. Please help me.
