Welcome to the Kearney Subreddit.

Welcome to the Kearney subreddit, now under new management. Our goal is to grow this community page by sharing helpful information and insights about Kearney and the surrounding communities.

Please feel free to start posting here. Let us know events that are happening. Things like local concerts or tournaments. UNK sports events. School activities. Anything that helps get the message out to the community.

Feel free to review businesses and restaurants. Share what new places are out there or what fun places others may not know exist.

Share fun and positive stories about the community in general and help others see what a great place Kearney really is.

Now for a few things we don’t want. No shaming people. This isn’t a place to complain or pile on about anything negative. No political agenda post. I don’t care which side you fall on nothing political. Nothing sexual or NSFW. Keep it appropriate. There are enough other places to go with that. All we ask is that you don’t come here to “stir the pot”. There are enough places to do that. Keep it drama free.

So, Welcome, and let’s have some fun.

What are your favorite places to eat in Kearney?

What are some top favorite places to eat? Fast food or fine dining. Bars count too.

We like a wide variety of places and have our favorite meals at each. Sometimes it’s more than just good food, great service makes all the difference it the world.

Respond with your favorites and maybe why you like them. We can build a list to pin for those new to the area, or just looking for something different.

Does anyone know why Dairy Queen is so busy at 8 PM?

Every night after work I drive past it and see a huge line. Is there like one business that closes at 8?

Comedian Dan Alten coming to Other Side this Sunday at 8 as part of my 23 night tour. I’ve opened for Kyle Kinane, Rory Scovel, Open Mike Eagle, Sarah Squirm from SNL, DJ Douggpound, and cool punk bands. I promise I’m funny and interesting and if you don’t enjoy the show you can spit on my car.

EAR Airport and Inclement Weather

Hey gang, My family and I are scheduled to fly in to EAR tomorrow via Denver (to visit family down in Harlan County). Does the airport deal with snow and ice well or do they just cancel flights at the first sign of it? Just trying to figure out if I'm going to need to plan on taking Amtrak from DEN to Holdrege....

Thanks.

Internet providers

Right now I have spectrum, which is good service but I went from like $45 a month to now $75 a month.

I was wondering who here has experience with frontier and how you like their service, which is my only other option for Internet right now.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Missing boxer Dog From Country Club Lane and 35th

My childhood dog is missing.

Mosely is almost 13 years old. She has a brown and white coat with lots of grey hair. She has tumors on her body and other medical issues. She has had many surgeries and is nearing the end of her life. She has declined lately and has become confused and disoriented. We love her and need to locate her as soon as possible. Please message me if you have seen her or know where she is at. We are very worried and don’t want her life to end this way. Thank you!

A neighbor said they saw an older couple (white), in a mid-size sedan, trying to take a dog on Saturday from their front yard - the dog belonged to the person next door to that neighbor. The very next night my dog went missing.

If anyone hears or sees anything, please DM me or contact KPD.

Questions about Kearney

Sorry for the text wall but I am moving to Kearney in a few weeks and had some questions. Feel free to throw any additional information out here too!

Early 30s couple with a toddler for background.

  1. Mechanic recommendation. Honest work being rated higher than prices.

  2. Internet options/quality. Residential high speed (100Mbps+) anyone to stay away from if consistent speed and uptime are priority?

  3. Best local (non chain) restaurants. Sit down places that aren't Applebee's.

  4. Favorite bar for a mixed drink that isn't super popular with students if possible because UNK faculty job.

  5. Any good hidden or less advertised local deals? (milk Mondays, coupon double Tuesday, cheap movie night)

  6. Things to do with kids on the cheap. Basically anything we can do as a family for under $20.

  7. Does Kearney have fluoride in the water? Moving from a place that doesn't and all the kids end up getting put on a fluoride multivitamin.

  8. Antenna reception. We get most of our content from Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix subscriptions but have had an antenna for the past 7 years and are wondering approximately how many channels we can expect.

  9. Best cell phone provider. Have ATT currently and had issues with service on this last trip to town.

Nebraska Roots Migration Survey - hoping to reach as many Nebraskans as possible!

Hey all! I was told Reddit would be a great place to share a survey I'm conducting for school. I shared the survey yesterday in the Nebraska group and I hope it has the same success here. I'm hoping to reach as many Nebraskans as possible and would appreciate any help I can get. Please consider taking the survey yourselves and sharing it with family and friends. The purpose of the Nebraska Roots Migration Survey research is to better understand the factors that influence Nebraskans to stay, leave, or move back to Nebraska. This survey is for anyone over the age of 19 who was a resident of Nebraska when they attended high school. Thanks everyone! https://survey.uvm.edu/index.php/291667?lang=en

Competitive swimming groups in Kearney, NE

I will be attending UNK next semester and I swam 3 years in High School. I won't be swimming at the college level but I want to continue my swimming career and compete in meets. I know that there isn't Masters swimming in Kearney, but are there any other kind of competitive swim groups there?
