I recall DDP got deviated septum surgery before his fight with Whitaker and has never seemed to show vulnerability around it. I know deviated septum surgery weakens the nose and makes it far more vulnerable to breaking but he has never had an issue around it despite taking direct blows. Does anyone know how?

I don't understand why fighters, when they have someone on their waist pushing them against the fence, or when they are down and the fighter is at their waist with hands clasped, that the fighter being taken down doesn't rain down elbows to their ears over and over. I've seen this happen in certain fights and it seems super effective. Yet, they tend to just fight for position rather than do damage. Is it because in the gym you don't train that because it's so violent? Anyone have any insight?
